Seahawks’ 4 biggest heroes in Week 9 win vs. Cardinals
The Seattle Seahawks notched their fifth straight win after they defeated the Arizona Cardinals, 31-21, on the road in Week 9 of the 2022 NFL season. At 6-3, the Seahawks solidify their hold on solo first place in the NFC West. Here we will look at Geno Smith and three other Seattle Seahawks heroes most
responsible for their Week 9 win vs. the Cardinals.

Geno Smith sizzling like Marshawn Lynch after Seahawks’ dominant win vs. Cardinals
It’s time to call the Seattle Seahawks legitimate playoff contenders this year. Behind the excellent play of the resurgent Geno Smith and a defense that harkens back to the Legion of Boom, the team has jumped off to a 6-3 record this year. Many expected this Seattle team to contend for a top draft pick in 2023.
Instead, they’re jockeying for playoff position midway through the year.
After another scintillating win against the Arizona Cardinals, Geno Smith paid tribute to Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch. Smith referenced the legendary running back in his latest tweet. The QB also praised their defense, who put the clamps on Kyler Murray all game long.
After years of struggling to find his footing, Geno Smith has become the star that the Seahawks desperately needed this season. He has been excellent for the team, carrying the team on his back at times. He’s a big part of their success this season, and he’s in serious discussions for the MVP award this year.
It seemed like the Smith of old had returned against the Cardinals, though. At one point, the Seahawks QB threw a brutal interception that was returned for six points. However, Smith shook off the pick and led Seattle to the goal line in three consecutive drives. That’s a testament to the improvements Smith has
made over the last few years.
With the rest of their division battling inconsistency, the Seahawks are in prime position to snag a playoff berth as long as they keep this level of play. It’s crazy to think that two months ago, we were writing off this team as a tanking squad. Now, they’re one of the best teams in the entire league.

"Real Deal" Uchenna Nwosu Leads Pass-Rush Surge In Seahawks Win At Arizona. | NFL 2022, Week 9
The Seattle Seahawks won their fourth straight game Sunday, beating their division rival, the Arizona Cardinals, 31-21. It was not an easy victory, as Seahawks QB Geno Smith threw a pick-six during the first half, putting Seattle in a deficit. But the team responded with a resounding second half performance.
By Mookie Alexander@mookiealexander
The Seattle Seahawks (6-3) have swept the Arizona Cardinals (3-6) and extended their lead in the NFC West.
It was not an easy afternoon at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, but the Seahawks showed their mettle and turned a 14-10 3rd quarter deficit into a 31-21 victory that improved their winning streak to four. Geno Smith bounced back from a pick-6 that gave the Cardinals the lead by engineering three straight
touchdown drives, two of which were finished off by rookie sensation Kenneth Walker III.
Smith threw touchdown passes to Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, while Walker overcame a slow start to rush for over 100 yards for the second time in three weeks. The defense held Kyler Murray to just 175 yards passing on 35 attempts, sacking him five times and forcing a crucial fumble prior to halftime that
prevented them from potentially scoring.
The defense played very well and the offense went scorched Earth in the closing stages of a game that Arizona badly needed to win, only for Pete Carroll’s Seahawks to slam the door in their faces in their own building. Again.

Pete Carroll drops hilarious take on huge Geno Smith completion in Seahawks’ win over Cardinals
Once again, the Seattle Seahawks added proof of why they should be taken seriously this season. Geno Smith and the Seahawks victimized the Arizona Cardinals for the second time in the 2022 NFL season on Sunday, eking out a 31-21 road victory over Kyler Murray and company.
Grinded out the fourth straight W.
It's how you handle adversity.
1st Quarter
Geno Smith hit his first three passes to Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, and Noah Fant. The running game struggled to get going and on 3rd and 6, Dee Eskridge couldn’t catch what would’ve been a very short pass that wouldn’t have moved the chains. The throw was a little behind him but Jalen Thompson helped break up
the throw. Jason Myers converted the game’s first points from 48. 3-0 Seahawks.
Arizona was on the cusp of an early three-and-out before Kyler Murray escaped a sack and rushed for 21 yards. Then in the face of pressure again he found a wide open DeAndre Hopkins for a walk-in 23-yard touchdown. The Cardinals’ first 1st quarter TD of the entire season. 7-3 Cardinals.
Seattle went three-and-out, but so did Arizona after backup center Billy Price turned 3rd and 1 into a horrific high snap and a loss of 15 yards. Kyler already had to make a difficult catch on the game’s first play but this one was well over his head and led to a punt.
2nd Quarter
The Seahawks embarked on a 12-play, 79-yard drive that saw Noah Fant catch two passes for first downs, including a clutch 3rd down grab with the pocket collapsing around Geno Smith. Byron Murphy nearly picked off Smith on 2nd and goal on a pass intended for Metcalf, and that missed opportunity resulted in
Geno going back to DK for the score. Metcalf kept his feet inbounds for his fourth TD on the season. 10-7 Seahawks.
Coby Bryant thought he had his first career interception, but he probably thought so in the Los Angeles Chargers game, too. For the second time in three weeks he had a pick wiped out due to penalty, a Quandre Diggs committed an illegal contact penalty. No worries as Arizona punted anyway, and a penalty tacked
on to a good punt return by DeeJay Dallas set up the Seahawks in Cardinals territory. Then a worry when they wasted that series with a turnover on downs following a 3rd and 4 sweep pass to Travis Homer for 2 yards, followed by a shovel to Colby Parkinson to lose yards.
Arizona promptly stalled out and punted after three plays, with Quandre Diggs and Tariq Woolen both breaking up Murray passes. If you like punting you liked this game. Tyler Lockett had a 3rd and 15 first down and uh... he slid too early. That’s annoying when you consider Eno Benjamin converted a 3rd and 14
catch-and-run on the ensuing possession that put the Cards in Seattle territory approaching halftime. Arizona was backed up at their own 3 to start their drive, and had a chance for points before the break. Robbie Anderson dropped an easy one on 3rd and 4, so the Cardinals opted to go for it instead of kick a field
goal. Murray scrambled for a first down and more, only for Ryan Neal to come through and force the fumble! Josh Jones with the recovery and Arizona ends up with no points.
Ryan Neal
Kyler Murray took off on a scramble that would have been a huge conversion with the Cardinals threatening in the red zone; instead, Ryan Neal made a diving play to tap the ball out of Murray's grip and into the hands of the Seahawks defense!
3rd Quarter
Arizona could’ve had points before halftime and points right out of halftime and instead got zero. The first possession of the 2nd half was a quick three-and-out, which the Seahawks answered with their own three-and-out. Geno Smith was sacked on 2nd and 2 and then 3rd and 9; neither QB was sacked in the first
half.
It looked as if the Cardinals converted 3rd and 17 with a double pass from Kyler Murray to Greg Dortch, then Dortch to James Conner, but it was a double forward pass which is not legal. Loss of down and a punt after that trickeration didn’t work out in a legal fashion.
The Cardinals took the lead on a Geno Smith pick-6 thrown on an attempted screen to Kenneth Walker III. 14-10 Cardinals.
How would Geno and company respond? Well Will Dissly finally got involved and caught a couple of passes for the first time all game. A 3rd and 12 throw to Tyler Lockett saw Lockett make the catch for the first and then get drilled by Zaven Collins for an extra 15 yards. Dissly caught another pass to move the chains
and Kenneth Walker converted a 3rd and 1 to get Seattle to the Arizona 12. Smith nearly got picked on a throw to Will Dissly, and like the Metcalf TD in the 2nd quarter, Geno made Arizona pay with a touchdown pass on the following play. Tyler Lockett pushed Budda Baker the hell off but the refs didn’t flag it, so we
won’t complain. 17-14 Seahawks.
4th Quarter
After no sacks for either team in the 1st half, the pressure started to get turned up. Bruce Irvin and Shelby Harris both got to Kyler Murray, with the Harris sack resulting in a punt. The ball nearly went right back to Arizona when DeeJay Dallas muffed a fair catch, but he was able to recover the ball. Kenneth Walker III
started to get going after being bottled up, and the Seahawks advanced the ball to near midfield. Geno Smith then ripped off consecutive runs for a combined 29 yards! Kenneth Walker III took over and converted a 3rd and 2, then easily got through at the goal line for a TD. 24-14 Seahawks with 7:32 to go.
Faced with a must-score situation, Arizona embarked on a 14-play, 75-yard drive that almost ended early when Rondale Moore looked to have fumbled after catching a short pass. Officials overturned it to an incomplete pass, as he didn’t complete a full football move after taking two steps. The Cardinals marched
down the field and got a touchdown throw from Murray to Zach Ertz. 24-21 Seahawks with 3:32 left.
Needing to kill clock, the Seahawks turned to Noah Fant for a 51-yard catch and dash down the sidelines and into Arizona territory. The best part? He stayed in bound. JJ Watt jumped offsides to give the Seahawks a new set of downs, and the Cardinals had to start burning timeouts. Kenneth Walker gashed the
Cardinals defense to the 5-yard line, forcing Arizona to use its last TO. The next snap was a Walker TD to ice the game. 31-21 Seahawks with 2:09 left.

The 6-3 Seattle Seahawks completed a sweep of the Arizona Cardinals handily on the very literal heels of their rookie phenom Kenneth Walker III and his pair of 4th quarter touchdowns. But Walker was far from alone in putting together another impressive outing; Geno Smith overcame some second half adversity to
lead three straight touchdown drives, putting the Seahawks clearly in the driver seat in the NFC West. The defense had yet another stingy outing, as they only really allowed 14 points when you factor out the pick-6. This brings Seattle’s winning streak up to 4, and people are talking about it.
Geno Smith is on fire. The fact that he came back from that pick-6 and played out of his mind is yet another clear demonstration of why he absolutely belongs in the MVP conversation.
6-3 sounds good to us.

Winners
Geno Smith
If Geno could’ve had five touchdowns last week, he could’ve had three interceptions this week. What happened is what happened and we got to see Smith showcase his tremendous mental resolve after a pick-6 that was both well read by Zaven Collins and badly thrown. Seattle’s offense was struggling and Smith had
just made his worst game-changing mistake of the season. He responded by finishing the game 11/13 for 174 yards and a touchdown.
There have been a lot of qualifiers for Geno and what would happen if things weren’t going smoothly; would he fold under pressure or after a bad play? Today he did not, and his calmness after the interception was on full display when he led the team to three straight TDs.
Noah Fant
Finally, Noah Fant as the YAC monster has arrived. He was tied for the team lead in receptions (5) and racked up 96 yards. For context, Fant had 176 yards the whole season before turning in the type of performance that made the Seahawks acquire him as part of the Russell Wilson trade. Four of Fant’s five
receptions were for first downs and that 51-yarder on the bootleg was essentially a dagger to Arizona’s chances of a comeback win.
I’ve not been wowed by Fant this season but in a system where every tight end feasts, Fant had himself an early Thanksgiving meal.
Kenneth Walker III
Not the best of starts for Walker given the Seahawks offensive line’s difficulties creating running lanes, but in the 4th quarter it was time for K9 to maul a tiring Arizona defense. By my count he rushed for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns, giving him a half-dozen 4th quarter TDs on the season! Walker finished with
109 yards on 26 carries, as well as 3 catches for 20 receiving yards.
DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett
Metcalf wasn’t flashy but he was effective and caught a difficult touchdown in which he had to get both feet down with not a lot of room to spare. It’s the type of TD that you’d expect from a top-level receiver and he managed it. Lockett was going to be a Loser for giving himself up two yards short of a first down on
3rd and 15, but he responded with a critical 3rd and 12 grab (while getting blasted by Zaven Collins) and caught a touchdown that put Seattle up for good. Did he get away with insanely obvious pass interference on Budda Baker? Yes. Would I be mad if we saw Seattle get jobbed that way? Yes. But since it benefited
the Seahawks then wheeeeeeeeeeee!
Pass Protection
Geno Smith was sacked five times and harassed many more times in the first meeting against Arizona. In the rematch Smith was sacked just twice — both on the first series of the 3rd quarter — and while there were eight QB hits in total it seldom felt like he was under siege. Lest you think this was a quick pass-
centric performance from Geno, it was not.
Uchenna Nwosu
Signing of the season. Two more sacks to bring his total up to seven. You may notice that the Seahawks are getting a lot of their sacks without blitzing, which is so huge compared to previous seasons where it felt like they had to send extra men on the rush to get after the quarterback.
BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE
He just turned 35 years old and might as well be 25. Irvin recorded his first sack since 2019 and his first with the Seahawks since leaving the team in 2015. He’s been a spark as a situational pass rusher and it is awesome that this reunion has worked out a lot better than his injury-shortened one in 2020.
Jordyn Brooks and Cody Barton
Yes, Cody Barton is playing well. Brooks has been really impressive over the past few weeks but Barton is the one I want to focus in on. He has been quick to the ball and not missing as many tackles or getting himself out of position as we’d seen at the start of the season. The run defense continues to be sturdy after
a leaky opening five games, and they’ve both been factors in that department. Everything is clicking right now for this Seahawks defense.
Tariq Woolen and Mike Jackson
Woolen did get beaten for a touchdown by Zach Ertz, but he also had a pass defensed on a throw intended for DeAndre Hopkins and recorded a tackle for loss on a screen. Jackson’s also held down his starting job opposite Woolen and both were instrumental in limiting Hopkins to just 3 catches for 14 yards after that
busted coverage touchdown on Arizona’s opening possession.
Ryan Neal
Biggest defensive play of the game by far was Neal for forcing Kyler Murray to fumble, turning a likely minimum of 3 points into zilch before halftime. Seattle now has 16 forced fumbles on the season and Neal joins the party of stripping the ball out.
Josh Jones?!!!
Yes, Josh Jones. He was on the spot for the fumble recovery and made a couple of solid tackles in run defense, which is a massive improvement from the horror shows that were his starts.

DK Metcalf tells story about his infamous cart ride to the bathroom
By thadisrad
#np Living My Life by Grace Jones
Seahawks News
In the Seattle Seahawks' Week 4 win over the Detroit Lions, DK Metcalf had fans holding their breath when he was carted off the field. As it turned out, he just needed to use the bathroom, and he recently shared the full story of his unfortunately timed call from nature.
Metcalf joined "Up & Adams" for an interview with Kay Adams, and he said the cart was necessary because there was no shot he was going to be able to walk all the way from the field to the locker room at Ford Field.
"Yes, I was very surprised that me being carted off to go to the bathroom was big news," Metcalf. "If anyone has played in Detroit, they know it is a long ass walk from the locker room to the field, and I was not gonna make that walk. I was not gonna make it."
Metcalf said he informed his position coach of his issue in the middle of a Seahawks drive. By the time he came off the field after a Seattle touchdown, there was a cart waiting for him.
"This is the middle of the drive," Metcalf said. "I come out, and I told my receivers coach, 'Hey, I gotta go to the bathroom.' He said, 'You gotta pee or go No. 2.' I said, 'I gotta go No. 2.' Then it went away for like 10 seconds. I was like, I'll go back in the game. When I was back in the game, the feeling came back up.
We ended up scoring two plays later, so I run back to the sideline, and they had a cart ready for me."
Not everyone thought Metcalf needed to go all the way to the locker room to relieve himself. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll suggested that Metcalf do his business somewhere on the sideline.
"Pete wanted me to do it on the sideline," Metcalf said. "I'm like, 'Nah, I got too much respect for myself. I can't do it on the sideline.' So, I hopped on the cart and went to the bathroom. I was actually mic'd up for that game too."
Fortunately for everyone in attendance, Metcalf ignored Carroll's suggestion and opted for a cart ride to the locker room.

The Seattle Seahawks (5-3) remain atop the NFC West with a 27-13 win over the New York Giants (6-2) in a game that was back-and-forth until a pair of 4th quarter touchdowns by Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker III confirmed a third victory in a row. Geno Smith threw for two scores, the special teams recovered
two fumbles by Richie James Jr on punt returns, and largely shut down star Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who had just 53 yards on 20 carries.
Outside of a lost fumble by Tyler Lockett that gave the Giants a 2-yard scoring drive, the Seahawks defense once again held firm and otherwise kept New York out of the end zone. They played well for virtually the whole game and the offense eventually came to life late.
This has been a hell of a run and the Seahawks are very much worth discussing as a potential playoff team.

1st Quarter
The Seahawks got the ball first but were unable to score, as DK Metcalf got involved early with a catch but then couldn’t haul in a dime of a Geno Smith throw on 3rd down. Evidently getting your arm held isn’t deemed worthy of DPI, so Seattle punted. The Giants’ first possession saw Saquon Barkley get no touches
and they went three-and-out.
Punts aplenty were exchanged and pretty interestingly it took three possessions before the Giants even gave Saquon a carry. They still went three-and-out anyway to assure no first downs through 15 minutes for Big Blue.

2nd Quarter
The Seahawks got a 3rd and 14 conversion from Geno Smith to DK Metcalf, salvaging a drive that looked doomed after a sack. A face mask on Kenneth Walker gave Seattle 15 more yards, and in the red zone they converted on 4th and 1 with a short throw to Tyler Lockett. A 4th and 2 inside the 5 was converted on a
shovel pass to Will Dissly. Two plays later, Geno found an open DK Metcalf for six! 7-0 Seahawks after a 15-play, 69-yard drive.

The Seattle Seahawks defended their home field as they defeated the visiting New York Giants, 27-13, in Week 8 of the 2022 NFL season. This fifth win kept the Seahawks at solo first place in the NFC North. They are a game ahead of the San Francisco 49ers. Here we will look at Geno Smith and three other
Seahawks most responsible for their Week 8 win vs. the Giants.
New York finally picked up a couple of first downs and got to midfield, but Jordyn Brooks sniffed out a 2nd and 9 run and Jones couldn’t get anything going on a 3rd down pass that was broken up by Michael Jackson.
Tyler Lockett lost a fumble inside his own 5, so the Seahawks once again had disaster happen when backed up deep in their own territory just like last week. Saquon Barkley scored two plays later. 7-7.
WOW! Seahawks Rumors & News After 27-13 Win vs. Giants: Geno Smith, DK Metcalf & Tyler Lockett
After Geno Smith got sacked twice (including on a brutally hard hit on a Xavier McKinney blitz), Richie James Jr fumbled the punt return after Will Dissly hit him. Joey Blount had the recovery at the Giants 20! Seattle turned this into a field goal. 10-7 Seahawks.
3rd Quarter
The Giants barely had any offense in the first half, but they came out firing in the 2nd half. Daniel Jones and the G-Men took off half the quarter and put them in the red zone. Jones’ best play was a 3rd and 12 dart to Darius Slayton that gained 18 yards into Seahawks territory. A whopping 14 plays, 79 yards, but
only 3 points after Jones’ pass for Marcus Johnson was broken up by Tariq Woolen. Graham Gano knotted things up at 10-10.
Bloody hand for Daniel Jones on the sideline
Seattle responded with a couple of good runs by Kenneth Walker III, followed by a 21-yard catch-and-run by Travis Homer. A dropped touchdown by Tyler Lockett turned what could’ve been a 17-10 game into 13-10 Seahawks after Jason Myers made a 51-yarder.
4th Quarter
A 12-play, 45-yard drive by the Giants only netted a field goal. Bruce Irvin had the key play when he knocked Daniel Jones back into Saquon Barkley for an eight-yard loss. New York at least got a few yards on 3rd and 18 for a more manageable kick for Graham Gano, which he converted. 13-13.
Geno Smith went 5-for-5 for 75 yards on the ensuing drive, and the last one was a 33-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett after a sick double move on Adoree Jackson! 20-13 Seahawks with 9:18 left.

The Giants went three-and-out on the next drive, but Shelby Harris was the hero because he tripped up Daniel Jones just a few yards shy of the marker as he was looking to scramble for the first down. Seattle got the ball back with 7:33 to go and promptly went three-and-out. No worries, for poor Richie James Jr
fumbled ANOTHER punt! And the Seahawks recovered again! Will Dissly with the recovery after Travis Homer forced the ball free!
Kenneth Walker III, bottled up almost all game, made an incredible 16-yard touchdown run to extend the lead! 27-13 Seahawks.
Daniel Jones was in desperation mode and he turned it over on downs deep in Seattle territory. Cody Barton could’ve had an interception but it didn’t matter. Geno Smith iced the game with a 3rd down and 8 run! Pete Carroll’s sideline interference penalty was after the play and also attributed to the Mariners by
Jerome Boger...
But anyway, game over! 27-13 Seahawks FINAL
Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett appeared to take a shot at former quarterback Russell Wilson while praising Seattle's current team dynamic.
The Seattle Seahawks have been better than anyone expected in 2022 despite trading away star quarterback Russell Wilson. There's definitely a vibe that the Seahawks are better off without the Pro Bowler. That's a vibe that's fed by comments from certain former Seattle defenders with regard to Wilson's locker room presence.
In Week 8, whether he meant to or not, wide receiver Tyler Lockett added to that feeling with his comments after the Seahawks beat the Giants, 27-13.
"It's amazing what you can accomplish when nobody cares who gets the credit," Lockett said during the postgame press conference.
Did Tyler Lockett take a shot at Russell Wilson with comments about credit?
Immediately Twitter users jumped to the conclusion that Lockett was taking a shot at his former quarterback.
It's entirely possible he was. Ex-teammates of Wilson's like Richard Sherman have not been shy about their less-than-positive feelings towards the quarterback.
At the same time, Lockett went on to talk about Seattle's rookies and how quickly they've bought into the team mentality. He may not have been thinking of the now-Broncos quarterback at all.
Only Lockett can say for certain whether he meant to dig at Wilson.
For now, he's had one thing to say on social media: "Hawks win!!! Thankful for my teammates and coaches!"
It was a dramatic day for Lockett. He uncharacteristically dropped a touchdown pass which would have put the Seahawks up by seven. Teammates and coaches tried to console him on the bench but it was clear the mistake was eating up at him.
Like any good pro, Lockett didn't let it get him completely down. He ended up catching the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Seahawks vs. Chargers: Seattle runs over Chargers 37-23, take top spot in NFC West
A big road win, but a big injury along the way.
Elite NFL quarterback Geno Smith, just like we all expected a decade ago
By Mookie Alexander@mookiealexander
The Seattle Seahawks (4-3) are all alone in first place in the NFC West after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) by a score of 37-23 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Geno Smith overcame an early interception to throw a pair of touchdowns to Marquise Goodwin, while rookie running back sensation
Kenneth Walker III took off for 168 yards rushing and two touchdowns of his own. Meanwhile, the Seahawks defense largely held firm against Justin Herbert and company, shutting down the Chargers rushing attack (not that they’re good at that) and limiting the big plays down the field.
Unfortunately, there were several key injuries to both teams. On the Seahawks side, special teams captain Nick Bellore and right guard Phil Haynes both left with concussions, while superstar receiver DK Metcalf was carted off with a knee injury. The Chargers lost cornerback JC Jackson to a knee injury, and receiver
Mike Williams left with an ankle injury.
This was Seattle’s first win at SoFi Stadium and thanks to the 49ers’ loss to the Chiefs, the Seahawks are a full game ahead of San Francisco and 0.5 game ahead of the idle Los Angeles Rams.

1st Quarter
This was a drive of two Kenneths. Seahawks rookie Kenneth Walker got a big run on the game’s third play, but Geno Smith threw a pass that was intercepted by Kenneth Murray on the next snap. It looked like Tyler Lockett was interfered with by Asante Samuel Jr but no call was made. The Chargers failed to take
advantage and were stuffed on 3rd and 4th and 1 on running plays with Austin Ekeler.

Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker III shows blazing speed on 74-yard TD run in win over Chargers
The Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday with a final score of 37-23 in the Week 7 matchup. Of all the highlights from this game, a long 74-yard touchdown from rookie running back Kenneth Walker III stands above the rest.

Kenneth Walker III is only a handful of games into his NFL career, but he is already proving to be a special player for the Seattle Seahawks. After being called into a starting role much earlier than initially anticipated, Walker has responded by looking exactly like the player the team hoped they had found when they
drafted him in the second round last Spring. After rushing for touchdowns in back to back games against the New Orleans Saints and Arizona Cardinals, he ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns during Seattle’s win over the Chargers on Sunday. For what this is worth, he reached an impressive top speed of 22.09
MPH, making him the fastest ball carrier of the season so far... but more on that later. Even more impressive, he is is pushing into elite territory in forcing missed tackles, according to Pro Football Focus, as you can see below. Suffice to say, Walker isn’t just running fast, he is running hard, and Twitter noticed.
To be fair, Kenneth Walker’s great performance required a bit of teamwork... the offensive line deserves some credit too!
The 10 fastest plays to date in the 2022 NFL season, per Next Gen Stats.
Player | Team | Top speed (mph) | Week | Play event |
---|---|---|---|---|
Kenneth Walker | Seahawks | 22.09 | 7 | 74-yard rushing TD |
Breece Hall | Jets | 21.87 | 7 | 62-yard rushing TD |
Devin Duvernay | Ravens | 21.6 | 2 | 103-yard kickoff return TD |
Tariq Woolen | Seahawks | 21.58 | 4 | 40-yard interception return TD |
Rashod Bateman | Ravens | 21.48 | 2 | 75-yard receiving TD |
Tutu Atwell | Rams | 21.46 | 5 | 53-yard reception |
Chase Claypool | Steelers | 21.46 | 1 | 12-yard rush |
Rashaad Penny | Seahawks | 21.44 | 5 | 32-yard rush |
Jalen Reagor | Vikings | 21.25 | 6 | 25-yard punt return |
Rashid Shaheed | Saints | 21.13 | 7 | 53-yard receiving TD |
Pass interference was the theme of the next drive. JC Jackson got flagged for fouling DK Metcalf, then Metcalf was called for OPI on Jackson, and then Bryce Callahan interfered Tyler Lockett on 3rd and 13. Geno Smith converted two 3rd down passes to Marquise Goodwin, of which the latter was a 3rd and 15
touchdown! 7-0 Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks are still waiting for a more definitive outlook on the injury of star wide receiver DK Metcalf, though, head coach Pete Carroll allayed some fears about losing one of his team’s best weapons long-term with an optimistic report following their 37-23 win on the road over the Los Angeles Chargers
Sunday.
The Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has been carted off of the field Sunday with an apparent knee injury. Metcalf has already been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Faced with 3rd and 8, Justin Herbert fired a pass down the middle and Ryan Neal jumped the route and picked off the pass! Finally someone other than Tariq Woolen gets a pick.
Seattle capitalized with a couple of DeeJay Dallas runs, then a roughing the passer penalty, and a 12-yard touchdown by rookie sensation Kenneth Walker III. 14-0 Seahawks.
Another possession? Another turnover! Darrell Taylor with the strip-sack of Herbert and the recovery! And the runback to the Chargers 19!
Seattle could only manage a field goal, which Jason Myers converted from 46. Two plays prior, DK Metcalf suffered a knee injury on a pass intended for him along the sidelines, and he was carted off. 17-0 Seahawks.
2nd Quarter
The Chargers answered back with an 8-play, 75-yard drive capped off by an 8-yard scoring run by Austin Ekeler. Overhanging on that series was news that DK Metcalf was ruled out for the game after being carted off with a knee injury. 17-7 Seahawks.
From bad to worse, Dee Eskridge fumbled a pitch back to him and it resulted in a turnover by the Seahawks. He also took a shot to the head from Khalil Mack in the scramble. Mack recovered the ball. The Chargers capitalized with a touchdown to Mike Williams on a crosser, with Tariq Woolen getting beaten in
coverage. 17-14 Seahawks.
Both teams exchanged punts for the first time all game, to at least slow down the chaos of all the turnovers and scoring drives. When Seattle got the ball back, Geno went to work and engineered a 7-play, 73-yard beaut that ended in another TD to Marquise Goodwin. JC Jackson unfortunately went down on this play,
so it’s bad enough he was beaten on a touchdown but he had a non-contact injury. 24-14 Seahawks at halftime.
3rd Quarter
The Chargers got zippo to start the 2nd half, but they did pin the Seahawks inside their own 10. Geno Smith converted a series of clutch throws to Tyler Lockett, as the team went on a 17-play, 77-yard drive that took off 10 minutes of game clock. Unfortunately a field goal was all they could muster after Smith was
sacked by Morgan Fox. Jason Myers was money again. 27-14 Seahawks.
The Seattle Seahawks have been a surprise this season, and the production of Kenneth Walker III is a primary reason. The rookie running back from Michigan State rushed for 168 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Seahawks registered a 37-23 road victory Sunday over the Los Angeles Chargers.
4th Quarter
After a clutch 3rd down pass breakup by Quandre Diggs on former Seahawks TE Gerald Everett, the punt by JK Scott backed Seattle up at their own 2-yard line. Kenneth Walker III was tackled in the end zone for a safety. WELP. 27-16 Seahawks.
The Seahawks defense stepped up with a terrific three-and-out that included Myles Adams batting a ball right back into Justin Herbert’s hands for a big loss. Better field position meant a shorter drive for the Seahawks, who got a grown man 12-yard run by Kenneth Walker and a pass interference on Derwin James.
Geno Smith was lucky not to be picked by Asante Samuel Jr, but he wasn’t! Jason Myers hit from 50 to extend the lead. 30-16 Seahawks.
In desperation mode, the Chargers were in four down territory and nearly got picked off by Michael Jackson. Seattle still forced a turnover on downs after Herbert’s pass to Mike Williams was short of the marker on 4th and 14. Williams’ leg twisted awkwardly and was injured on the play, adding to a day of carnage at
SoFi Stadium.
On the next snap, Kenneth Walker III put this one on ice. A 74-yard romp to the house. 37-16 Seahawks.
In what was pretty much garbage time, Austin Ekeler scored his second touchdown of the game on a Herbert pass on 4th and goal. Coby Bryant thought he had an interception but Uchenna Nwosu was offside. That was the final score. 37-23 Seahawks FINAL.
The Los Angeles Chargers not only lost to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, but also might have lost some key players. Late in the first half, former Pro Bowl cornerback J.C. Jackson was carted off the field with a leg injury. Then in the 4th quarter, Mike Williams sustained an ankle injury and was helped off the field.
The Los Angeles Chargers’ season is quickly beginning to fade as injuries continue to mount. Late in a 37-23 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks, Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams suffered what looked like a serious ankle injury. There is no official word yet on Williams’ injury, but the video did not look good.
Every year the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) selects an NFL Executive of the Year.
Last season, it was a guy from the New England Patriots. Sure.
This year, there is no one half as qualified as John Schneider, and unless the Carolina Panthers win the Super Bowl or something, if Schneider doesn’t win it the award makes no sense.
Consider three primary categories that an NFL executive (like a General Manager!) might influence as part of this award: Trades, Draft, and Free Agency.
THE Trade
The Seattle Seahawks improved through the subtraction of Russell Wilson. This was an unfathomable sentence until the previous seven weeks have unfolded the way they have. The package and subsequent contract that the Denver Broncos enacted for Russell Wilson have been the equivalent of an atomic bomb
within the organization, and they won’t recover for a long, long ride. Excuse me. Time.
Two firsts and two seconds, for the Grand Canyon-sized drop-off that Wilson has displayed in Denver is ridiculous in and of itself. I’m only 33 but can think of no more perfect trade at no more perfect time in any of the sports that I have followed in my life. It’s unbelievable.
But that’s not even the end of the story. Shelby Harris has been a net positive for the Seahawks roster, and a strong one. Noah Fant has been a positive for this roster; more on him later. Every game the Broncos lose gets John Schneider closer to a top-5 pick that he shouldn’t have but absolutely deserves.

That is certainly reason to celebrate, but any celebration may be muted given the update on the knee injury of stud wide receiver DK Metcalf that head coach Pete Carroll provided in his post game presser.
The big question here, of course, will be what Pete means by “the extent of the injury”. According to Carroll x-rays were negative - which would be expected with the type of injury Metcalf suffered - so waiting for the MRI to learn the extent of the injury could mean the team believes Metcalf suffered a significant
injury, but won’t know if there is additional damage until the MRI is complete.
Then, in the third quarter the Seahawks lost a pair of key players to concussions, with special teams captain and right guard Phil Haynes both getting ruled out.
Haynes, of course, had been playing because the regular starter at right guard, Gabe Jackson, is out with hip and knee injuries. In Haynes’ absence the Hawks will turn to second year lineman Jake Curhan.
Losing Bellore could be a significant blow to the embattled special teams unit for the Hawks, as he is not only the snaps leader for the group, but also the special teams captain.

The Seattle Seahawks (3-3) are tied for top spot in the NFC West after pulling off a suffocating defensive display on Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals (2-4), who are now in the divisional cellar. On a day when the Seahawks offense was mostly held in check, the defense had by far its best game of the season.
Murray was sacked six times, picked off once, and lost a fumble as the Seahawks prevailed by a final score of 19-9. Arizona did not score an offensive touchdown, while Seattle’s one TD was scored by rookie sensation Kenneth Walker III.
This was a sensational day for key rookie defensive players Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen, as well as a 100+ yard day of total offense for Walker III. On a day when Shaun Alexander was inducted into the Ring of Honor, the Michigan State man did Shaun and the whole team proud.
It was a win that in many ways felt like vintage Seahawks football under Pete Carroll. Was it pretty? No. Geno Smith didn’t break 200 yards passing and was sacked five times, and the offensive line had a pretty rough outing. Did it work? Damn right it did.

Shaun Alexander Reminisces on His Legacy in Seattle
Changed the culture of Seahawks football. Welcome back again, @shaunalexander!
WATCH LIVE: @shaunalexander’s entire Ring of Honor ceremony streaming now on Youtube!
Yes, running back Shaun Alexander, who is the franchise record holder in just about every major statistical category, will be inducted into the Ring of Honor. The career franchise records he holds include:
Rushing Attempts: 2,176
Rushing Yards: 9,429
Rushing Touchdowns: 100
Longest Rush: 88 yards
Rushing Yards per Game: 79.2
Most 1,000 Yard Seasons: 5
He also holds both of the top two spots for most rushing yards in a single season in franchise history with 1,696 yards in 2004 and 1,880 yards in 2005, and five of the top six seasons for a Seahawks running back in terms of rushing touchdowns belong to Alexander. Those include 14 touchdowns in each of 2001 and
2003, 16 in both of 2002 and 2004 and a then-NFL record 27 in 2005.
Younger fans remember how great Chris Carson and Marshawn Lynch were for the Seahawks over the last dozen years, but even their best seasons pale in comparison to Alexander’s monster 2005 campaign. Here are Alexander’s stats from that season compared to the most prolific season for each of Carson and Lynch:
Chris Carson (2019): 278 attempts, 1,230 yards, 7 TD, 4.4 yards per carry
Marshawn Lynch (2012): 315 attempts, 1,590 yards, 11 TD, 5.0 yards per carry
Shaun Alexander (2005): 370 attempts, 1,880 yards, 27 TD, 5.1 yards per carry
Just to put into perspective how out of this world Alexander’s 2005 season was, here is how it compares to the six-game stretch at the end of 2021 when Rashaad Penny was effectively unstoppable.
Rashaad Penny (final 6 games of 2021): 706 yards, 6 TD
Rashaad Penny (final 6 of 2021 projected over 16 games): 1,883 yards, 16 TD
Shaun Alexander (2005): 1,880 yards, 27 TD
Basically, how unstoppable Penny was during the tail end of the 2021 season is effectively how unstoppable Alexander was for the duration of the 2005 season. To put into perspective just how much production he packed into that single season, here’s a simple comparison of what he was able to do that year in the 19
regular and postseason games in which he played to what Penny has done during every regular season and postseason game in which he has played during his five years with the Hawks.
A big congratulations to Alexander on making the Ring of Honor, and Sunday will certainly be a memorable day for him and for many fans, regardless of the final outcome of the game.
Let's take a journey down @shaunalexander lane.
Forgotten play after the Romo fumble in the playoff game:
Cowboys still had 3 timeouts. Seattle was backed up at the 2. Shaun gets a huge run that burned more time off the clock.
@shaunalexander was different.
Special teams captain Nick Bellore spoke to Seahawks beat writer John Boyle, putting the blame on himself for what happened on Sunday.
“It was a look we had seen before, and the call is based on what I do,” Bellore said. “I set the protection, and that is why ultimately, they were able to block it. It was one of those things where I figured we’d be OK if we blocked it that way, and their rush was schemed for it. Ultimately, if I get us into the call we’re
supposed to be in, it should be blocked up fine. I saw it a way I shouldn’t have, and it worked against us. I don’t want anyone else taking the heat for that.”

The Cardinals used their running game (Kyler Murray included) to once again get into Seahawks territory, but again they had to settle for a field goal. Matt Ammendola’s struggles resulted in Kliff Kingsbury rolling the dice on 4th and 4, but a Murray throw to Rondale Moore was low and it was dropped. Turnover on downs!
The Seahawks wasted this by going three-and-out, but the defense responded by forcing their own three-and-out thanks to a sack by Uchenna Nwosu. With good field position, Geno Smith used his tight ends to get the passing attack going, and even Dee Eskridge caught an 11-yard pass. They got into the red zone
but Kenneth Walker III was stonewalled. Jason Myers put the Seahawks on top from 27. 6-3 Seahawks.
Seattle’s defense stepped up big again on the next possession. After a busted coverage turned Marquise Brown loose, the Seahawks stiffened up and Ryan Neal sacked Kyler Murray on 3rd down to force another punt.
These defenses kept each other’s offenses at bay. Darrell Taylor strip-sacked Kyler Murray and helped force yet another three-and-out to give the Seahawks a chance at more points before halftime. Completions to Marquise Goodwin and a big run by Geno Smith set up a field goal, which Myers converted yet again. 9-

Seattle began with an ugly three-and-out that saw Geno Smith take an intentional grounding and then get sacked on third down. Kyler Murray found Rondale Moore to get themselves out of a 2nd and 15 jam, then did his usual incredible scrambling to get the Cards into FG range. Keep in mind again that Matt
Ammendola has been a shaky kicker, so the Cards went for it on 4th and 2 instead of kicking a 45-yard field goal. Murray was pressured and went deep for AJ Green but it wasn’t close!
The Seahawks benefited from a roughing the passer and a questionable defensive holding penalty on what would’ve been a 3rd down stop. We’ll take it! Kenneth Walker III had an electrifying 21-yard run that set up 1st and 10 at Arizona’s 11. Yet another sack taken by Geno resulted in a Myers field goal. 12-3
Seahawks.
Bryan Mone of the House Mone.
COBY AND TARIQ AGAIN!
@CobyBryant8_ forces it. @_Tariqwoolen recovers it. The @Seahawks rookies team up for the turnover
Winners
Defensive Line, especially Poona Ford and Bryan Mone
The pass rush was fantastic and other than a few Kyler Murray scrambles the run defense was (finally) on point. Murray was repeatedly harassed and sacked six times, including five by outside linebackers or defensive tackles. Poona Ford and Bryan Mone, who have struggled mightily this season, were terrific. After
only making two tackles for loss over the previous two weeks combined, the Seahawks defense had a whopping ten! It looked like a completely different group than what we’d seen through the previous five weeks.
Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant
I’m gonna have to keep putting them in this column as a duo, because they are sensational. Bryant had his best game in coverage and recorded a pass defensed, but his big contribution was the forced fumble on Kyler Murray that was recovered by Tariq Woolen. Bryant already has four forced fumbles on the year,
and Woolen has four interceptions in as many weeks. These are the ballhawks that the Seahawks have been begging for post-Legion of Boom and they are growing up so damn fast.
Woolen in particular scarcely gets targeted and when he does he’s responding with INTs. He already has more interceptions than the entirety of the Seahawks cornerback group from 2021.
Darrell Taylor
Man did he need that. Taylor recorded his second strip-sack of the season and made a big tackle for loss on Rondale Moore for a loss of seven yards. Given his struggles against the run and the inability to generate pressure, this was a welcome sight to see.
Uchenna Nwosu
Another sack for Nwosu gives him three on the year, and he continues to be one of the bright spots on the Seahawks defense. This is a free agent signing that has definitely worked out.
Ryan Neal
He’s so much better than Josh Jones it’s not even funny. Neal got a sack on a well-executed blitz.
Jordyn Brooks
While Cody Barton seemingly had his role reduced (in which case, thanks Clint Hurtt!), Brooks was solid in pass coverage and run pursuit. Brooks led the team in tackles and unlike previous weeks this was not an empty calorie stat.
Kenneth Walker III
The rookie showed out in front of Shaun Alexander and stepped into Rashaad Penny’s starting role superbly. In 23 touches he racked up 110 yards and a touchdown, and that’s with the offensive line not providing too many holes for him to run through. Walker had several electrifying runs that showcased his balance,
tackle-breaking abilities, vision, power, and speed.
Hopefully his repeated favoring of his groin was nothing major because the Seahawks rushing attack will need him for weeks to come.
Dee Eskridge
Yes, Dee Eskridge! Three catches for 39 yards, with every catch resulting in a first down. It ties his career-high in receptions, sets a new best mark for yards, and it was badly needed on a day when Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf were held to just four combined receptions.
Jason Myers
Four field goals, four makes for Myers. He had a miss in each of the last two games (one FG and one PAT) but he was flawless today and with points at a premium — all while his opposite kicker wasn’t even trusted to kick from 40 — that’s something we cannot overlook.
Just as the Cardinals were on course to at least threaten to score again, Coby Bryant stripped Kyler Murray on a rushing play and Tariq Woolen recovered it! Rookie and rookie teaming up!
Seattle went three-and-out again and Michael Dickson, perhaps in a panic looking to avoid the rushers, fumbled the ball in the end zone and the Cardinals recovered for a score. It was going to get blocked with that bust in protection and instead it turned into a Chris Banjo TD. Matt Ammendola missed the PAT. 12-9

Michael Dickson gets destroyed and Cardinals score
Seahawks Tariq Woolen Highlights vs Arizona
4th Quarter
The Seahawks offense, unable to get into the end zone all game, worked on a 7-play, 75-yard drive that saw some clutch throws from Geno Smith and a dazzling 10-yard score by Kenneth Walker III. The rookie getting it done! 19-9 Seahawks.
It didn’t take long for the Cardinals to get into Seattle territory, but keeping in mind the kicker situation they went for it on 4th and 2 inside the Seahawks’ 30 and Quinton Jefferson killed the drive with a clutch sack. And the Cardinals blew a timeout before that, leaving them with just 1 left in the final ten minutes.
After a Seahawks three-and-out, the Seattle defense again came up huge. Poona Ford swooped in for the fifth sack of Kyler Murray, then swatted away a 2nd down pass. Punt time as the defensive line overwhelmed Arizona’s group. This provided the Seahawks with terrific field position in Arizona territory. They
wasted it, as was the theme for this very defensively oriented battle.
Arizona went for it on 4th and 3 at their own 14, and pretty much had to given the time left and the lack of timeouts. They got the conversion for their first 4th down success. Their next one? Picked by Tariq Woolen. Four picks in four games! That pretty much ended it. 19-9 Seahawks.

Twitter reacts to Tariq Woolen and the Seahawks defense
Apparently nobody told rookie Tariq Woolen that the Seattle Seahawks are supposed to be bad at defense. Ditto for fellow first year corner Coby Bryant. And thank everything that is good in this world that these guys have been able to drown out the static, because these guys are doing everything in their power to
pull the team together and tear apart opposing offenses. Or, at least, they are doing their part to tear the football away from opposing offensive players. And people are taking notice.
Of course, they weren’t the only rookies to make waves in the Seahawks’ first divisional victory of the season. The Seahawks draft class of ‘22 is getting rave reviews around the league, especially from some familiar faces.
The defense in general looked like an entirely different unit today, and the drive outcomes back this up.
Yes, the above tweet may be partially (wholly?) in jest, but improvements sometimes come incrementally But the defense is only part of the story today, as first year running back Kenneth Walker III broke the century mark in total yards and looked solid doing it. While I am still shedding tears for Rashaad Penny, I
imagine that he is happy to see his understudy-turned-featured-back having a breakout game like he did today.
Now, you might assume that Walker was the fastest ball carrier on the field today. But he was not. In fact, he wasn’t even the fastest ball carrier on his team, today.
Too bad Geno Smith isn’t very athletic, says nobody anywhere anymore. Of course, the offense didn’t display the aerial dominance that it has in previous weeks, but it is great to see this team be able to pull out a victory without Geno Smith having to put up gaudy passing stats.
And of course there is this:

FINAL
Seahawks vs. Saints Final Score: Seattle loses 39-32 in another embarrassing defensive display
The Seattle Seahawks (2-3) have an offense that is playing like a playoff-caliber team. The defense is not good enough to stop Pop Warner offenses, and between that and some sketchy officiating that resulted in a 39-32 loss to the New Orleans Saints (2-3).
Geno Smith threw for three touchdowns, should’ve had four or five if not for a bad DK Metcalf drop and a questionable penalty on Charles Cross, while Kenneth Walker III had an electrifying first career touchdown. We’ll see a lot more of Walker considering the potential severe injury to Rashaad Penny.
The defense is almost entirely pathetic. The “almost” is because Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen continue to make awesome plays. Taysom Hill rushed for over 100 yards, 3 touchdowns, and threw for another. His 60-yard scamper was the game-winner. Seattle was just 1/9 on 3rd down while the Saints were 8/13 on
their 3rd downs.
If not for Geno and this offense, the Seahawks might be the worst team in the NFL. That is how bad this defense is. And special teams certainly contributed to this failure to win a very winnable game.

1st Quarter
Al Woods doing Al Woods things
Big Al holding it down. #GoHawks x @budlight
Seattle won the coin toss and put the Saints offense on the field first. If you’re like me, you had a bad feeling in the pit of your stomach. Andy Dalton (and I guess Taysom Hill) led a 10-play, 41-yard drive that stalled out thanks to a 3rd down pass breakup by Coby Bryant. Wil Lutz hit a 56-yard field goal to put the
Saints on the board. 3-0 Saints.
The Seahawks’ red-hot passing offense continued its success into the opening quarter of this game. Geno Smith completed a 15-yard pass to Noah Fant for a first down, and then his next pass was an improvised throw on the run to DK Metcalf for a 50-yard touchdown. 7-3 Seahawks.
After a Saints punt, the Seahawks were fortunate not to give the ball up right away on a dropped interception by Paulson Adebo. The next play was a big Rashaad Penny run into Saints territory, but the drive fizzled out and they settled for a 56-yard field goal. Jason Myers answered Lutz’s long kick with one of his
own. 10-3 Seahawks.
2nd Quarter
New Orleans didn’t need big explosive plays to score on their third possession. A 10-play, 69-yard drive that almost didn’t happen because of a Taysom Hill kickoff return fumble ended in an 8-yard Hill touchdown run. It was a Hill-heavy drive and he got the payoff. 10-10.
A rare three-and-out by the Seahawks offense gave the Saints the ball right back, but an Al Woods sack helped lead to a three-and-out the other way. Then another Seahawks three-and-out resulted in a uh... a fake punt? I cannot describe this. Michael Dickson tried to run it and he lost the ball and the Saints
recovered. Taysom Hill ran in his second TD of the game. He recovered that fumble, by the way. 17-10 Saints.
Trailing by a touchdown, the Seahawks finally opened up the passing offense and more specifically utilized the tight ends. Will Dissly had a first-down catch, as did Noah Fant on a deep ball down the field on the run by Geno Smith. Seattle reached the red zone at the two-minute warning looking to tie things up. DK
Metcalf dropped a tying touchdown on a beautiful throw by Geno. He had to have that and he knew it. Jason Myers hit a short field goal. 17-13 Saints.
Just when it looked like the Saints would get into field goal range, a hands to the face penalty on James Hurst knocked them backwards. Coby Bryant then knocked the ball free from Alvin Kamara, and fellow rookie Tariq Woolen scooped it up before fumbling the return out of bounds. Suddenly the Seahawks had a
chance at points! Forget the field goal, how about a deep touchdown to Tyler Lockett? 19-17 Seahawks.
3rd Quarter
DK Metcalf appeared to lose a fumble on the very first play of the 2nd half, but his elbow was down just before the ball started to come out. They ruled it a fumble live and it stood upon replay. Tough call and another poor giveaway by Metcalf deep in Seattle territory. Ryan Neal denied Adam Trautman a touchdown on
a great throw by Andy Dalton, then Coby Bryant did the same thing on Chris Olave... or so it seemed. On replay they deemed that Olave had a third step before the ball came loose going to the ground. Tough break for Coby. Olave also got concussed on the slam to the ground. 24-19 Saints.
Plenty of punts were exchanged after that sequence, but then Tariq Woolen had a huge interception off Andy Dalton to put the Seahawks in great field position.
TARIQ WOOLEN GETTING HIMSELF A PICK ON THE DAY AGAIN!
Have fun with it.
A long ball from Geno to DK for a touchdown was erased due to an iffy holding penalty on Charles Cross. That took the Seahawks out of field goal range and they ended up punting. Naturally, a big screen to Alvin Kamara got the Saints to Seattle’s 24. Taysom Hill beat up Seattle running, so he decided to throw a 22-
yard TD to Adam Trautman. 31-19 Saints.
The score the reaction
4th Quarter
Geno to Lockett. 40 yards. No words other than “CRAP.” Seattle went for two for some reason and it was incomplete. 31-25 Saints.
The Saints were seemingly ready to punt after getting stopped short on 3rd down, but a bailout holding penalty on Tariq Woolen gave them a fresh set of downs. Just so many penalties against the Seahawks. Then on a 4th and 3 it looked like Boye Mafe jumped offsides, but the officials ruled a false start on the right
tackle. That turned into a Saints punt. And two plays later the Seahawks were in the end zone on a nice 69-yard touchdown run by rookie Kenneth Walker III! Incredible! 32-31 Seahawks.
Not incredible? A 60-yard TD by Taysom Hill for a hat trick of rushing scores. They got the 2-point conversion through Mark Ingram. 39-32 Saints with 5:22 left.
The Seahawks went three-and-out on the ensuing drive, with Geno Smith taking a terrible 3rd and 2 sack. New Orleans made Seattle exhaust its timeouts and converted a critical 3rd down to keep the clock moving.
Read the signs. @Seahawks @GenoSmith3

The Seahawks return home for a divisional matchup with the Arizona Cardinals (2-2) on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 4:05 PM ET/1:05 PM PT on FOX.
Injury Update: Rashaad Penny carted to locker room with ankle injury
Rashaad Penny suffered what appeared to be a left ankle injury during the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints. He was having a strong game heading into the second half, but he went down awkwardly as he was tackled on the sideline on a 6 yard carry. He was
able to slide off of the field under his own power, but he was taken on a cart into the locker room shortly later. No official word yet on this injury, but Brady Henderson shared this:
In addition, while making his way from the bench to the cart, Penny was unable to put any weight on the injured ankle, making a return to the game seem unlikely at this point. Prior to the injury, he had carried the ball nine times for 54 yards. This is concerning for Penny, obviously, but also for the team; this
currently leaves Kenneth Walker and Deejay Dallas as the only active halfbacks on the roster, with Nick Bellore as the primary fullback. Cullen Gillaspia, who was recently elevated from the practice squad, also has experience at fullback.
More updates to come as further information becomes available.
UPDATE:
According to a report from FOX sideline reporter Megan Olivi, Penny is doubtful to return.
Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny suffered fractured tibia in loss to Saints
According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny suffered a fractured tibia in today’s loss to the Saints. Penny will have tests tomorrow to determine if he needs surgery.
While it is still relatively early in the season, there’s a good chance we won’t see Penny play again this year.
Speaking with reporters, head coach Pete Carroll said Penny is crushed and he’s heartbroken for him.
It’s another terrible blow for Penny, who was among the league leaders coming into this week in EPA/play and rushing yards over expected.
Injuries have played a large role in Penny’s career to date. He missed 20 games over the previous two seasons with a variety of issues.
With Penny out Seattle will look to rookie Ken Walker to take over in the backfield. He posted 88 yards and one touchdown on eight carries after Penny left the game.
Pete Carroll says Rashaad Penny has a “serious” ankle injury and it will be very tough for Seahawks to get him back. Sounds he will be out a long time—again. @thenewstribune

Seahawks vs. Lions: Seattle wins historic 48-45 shootout over Detroit
By Mookie Alexander@mookiealexander
The Seattle Seahawks (2-2) and Detroit Lions (1-3) came into Sunday with porous defenses, and that made for a wildly entertaining game at Ford Field.
Geno Smith threw for over 300 yards, 2 touchdown passes, a rushing touchdown, while Rashaad Penny scored twice and racked up 151 yards on the ground. They needed all of that offense to muster up a 48-45 win over a shorthanded Lions offense that still racked up 520 yards of offense. There were 1,075 yards of
offense combined, only two punts (both by the Lions), and many career bests and franchise records were set on this day.
Oh yes, and 48-45 is Scorigami!
Our motor didn’t stop!
1st Quarter
The Seahawks got the ball on offense first and went on an 11-play, 75-yard drive that took off 6:36 of game time. Geno Smith was 6/7 for 62 yards on the opening series, converting a pair of third downs with his arm and his legs. The tight end utilization that’s been prevalent all season fittingly resulted in a great toss
from Smith to Will Dissly for the touchdown. 7-0 Seahawks.
@GenoSmith3 to @Will_Diss with the perfect ball placement TD
Detroit went three-and-out right away with their first possession, but Tyler Lockett gave it right back on a fumbled punt return. This was Lockett’s first lost fumble since 2015 (also against Detroit), and on the next play Jared Goff found a wide open T.J. Hockenson for a 32-yard touchdown on a coverage bust. 7-6
Seahawks after a missed PAT.
Ol' reliable @TDLockett12
Geno Smith came out firing right back with first down completions to Tyler Lockett and twice to DK Metcalf. In next to no time the Seahawks were in the red zone, and Geno finished the drive off with a QB draw score! 14-6 Seahawks.
Detroit went three-and-out again, but punter Jack Fox threw a fake punt pass to Quintez Cephus to extend the drive. Those tricky Lions! Pete Carroll challenged and it obviously lost because it was a stupid challenge.
.@GenoSmith3 is 12/14 for 170 yards with 3 total touchdowns!
2nd Quarter
Gotta take advantage of the 1-on-1 with @dkm14 #SEAvsDET
A big run by reserve running back Craig Reynolds had Detroit in Seattle territory, but the drive eventually stalled and this time the Seahawks got off the field. New kicker Dominik Eberle squeaked one in from 49. 14-9 Seahawks.
The Seahawks had a promising drive going up until Kenneth Walker III was penalized for a holding penalty. A botched screen pass (what else is new?) put the Seahawks at 2nd and 25, but Geno Smith did well to get those lost yards back and set up a 56-yard field goal for Jason Myers. 17-9 Seahawks.
Rookie Coby Bryant forced a fumble on receiver Khalif Raymond, who made a catch and took three steps before Bryant punched the ball out. Jordyn Brooks was on hand for the recovery, and if he didn’t get it then his linebacking partner Cody Barton would’ve been there anyway. It took the Seahawks only three plays
to get into the end zone, as DK Metcalf torched Jeff Okudah for 54 yards and then on the next play Noah Fant was embarrassingly open for his first Seahawks TD. 24-9 Seahawks.
The Lions kept committing penalties and in theory a 2nd and 23 hole is when a defense can make a stop. Instead, the Seahawks allowed a 28-yard pass play to Tom Kennedy in another coverage zone bust. Jared Goff and company marched down the field into field goal range. Tariq Woolen was beaten badly by Josh
Reynolds for a catch-and-run to the 1-yard line. Seattle’s defense held firm and made three straight stops. They couldn’t make it four, unfortunately. Jamaal Williams powered through as time expired. 24-15 Seahawks after another missed PAT.
3rd Quarter
The Lions got the ball first and gave it up right away. Jared Goff threw an interception to rookie corner Tariq Woolen, who returned it all the way for a touchdown! 31-15 Seahawks.
After a Lions punt, the Seahawks got the ball back and quickly found themselves in Detroit territory after another big catch by DK Metcalf and a big run by Rashaad Penny. The drive stalled after that and even worse, Jason Myers missed from 39 yards out. That proved costly as Jamaal Williams found paydirt on a 51-
yard touchdown gallop. Just when the Seahawks thought they had a 2-point conversion stop via a sack, a penalty on Sidney Jones gave Detroit a 2nd chance and they converted. 31-23 Seahawks.
Just when it looked like the Seahawks were going to be pressed into a long field goal, Rashaad Penny took a 3rd and 16 handoff to the house! An incredible play to counter an all-out blitz and Penny took it 36 yards. What a turn of events when it look like 3rd and 16 had already happened, but the refs had blown the
whistle for a play clock issue. 38-23 Seahawks.
4th Quarter
You thought this would be easy? Not with this defense! On 1st and 20, Jared Goff found TJ Hockenson for an 81-yard catch-and-run. Josh Jones missed a tackle and Cody Barton got shoved aside like a little child. That was particularly embarrassing football. Josh Reynolds caught a touchdown two plays later and
Hockenson got a two-point conversion. 38-31 Seahawks.
HANDS. @J_Rey_11
As you can tell, neither defense was too bothered to make any stops. A 10-play, 68-yard drive featured a 34-yard throw by Geno Smith to Tyler Lockett as Smith absorbed a huge hit and hung tough in the pocket. They got into the red zone but settled for a field goal, which put them back up two scores. 41-31
Seahawks.
Kick is good! 41-31 us with 9:32 left to play.
The Lions were in four down territory. Jared Goff converted a 4th and 9 just a play after he nearly got picked on a hopeless triple coverage throw. Detroit was marching down the field with ridiculous ease like it was a 7-on-7 drill. TJ Hockenson picked up his second TD on the day with a grab beyond Ryan Neal. 41-38
Seahawks with 5:26 left.
Geno Smith needed to sustain a long drive or put the ball in the end zone given the flow of this game and the time remaining. He found Dee Eskridge for a first down, then Tyler Lockett on a critical 3rd down conversion to move the sticks. On the next 3rd down, Rashaad Penny took off for 41 yards to counter another
blitz and he was GONE! 48-38 Seahawks with 2:14 left.
Detroit still had all three timeouts and the ability to stop the clock by getting out of bounds. It didn’t take long for the Lions to get into Seahawks territory but of course they needed two scores. Justin Jackson caught an easy two-yard pass to cut it to 48-45 Seahawks with 1:06 left.
DeeJay Dallas recovered the onside kick (after Nick Bellore nearly botched it) but since Detroit still had all three timeouts, they couldn’t just kneel on the ball. Rashaad Penny converted 3rd and 5 for the win! 48-45 SEA Final.

Seahawks vs. Falcons: Absolutely hopeless Seattle defense run over in 27-23 loss
All the emotions from @S10Bird. #TakeCover
By Mookie Alexander@mookiealexander
The Seattle Seahawks (1-2) offense played much better, but the Atlanta Falcons (1-2) have their first win of the season.
An atrocious defensive effort saw the Falcons rack up 386 yards of offense on only 54 plays. Atlanta had just one punt, and Cordarrelle Patterson racked up over 140 yards on just 17 carries, scoring a touchdown in the process. Geno Smith threw for over 320 yards, two touchdowns, but took two costly sacks on the
team’s final drive.
Hard to imagine there are too many NFL defenses worse than the Seahawks. They were atrocious from start to finish and the only highlights were Coby Bryant and Tariq Woolen getting a sack and interception, respectively. I guess Uchenna Nwosu’s fumble recovery was also cool but this is a group that is way worse
than imagined.

Them boys. @budlight x #BudLightCelly
1st Quarter
The Seahawks started the game on offense, and they established Rashaad Penny right away with effective runs into Atlanta territory. He gained 35 yards on his first three attempts. Geno Smith threw a dime to DK Metcalf on the outside to get Seattle close to the red zone. Geno’s lofted 3rd down pass into the end
zone for Metcalf was knocked away by AJ Terrell, so Jason Myers came on and made a short field goal. 3-0 Seahawks.
Atlanta’s response was to use their star tight end Kyle Pitts early and often, and the Seahawks defense was fortunate not to give up a touchdown (or at least a big run) on Marcus Mariota’s first pass, which was overthrown. Pitts made a 3rd down conversion and also had a screen pass to the 3-yard line to set up a
goal-to-go situation. Jackson held Pitts in the end zone to move the ball to the 1-yard line, and Mariota ran it in on the next play. 7-3 Falcons.
Geno Smith hit a couple of first down throws to DK Metcalf and Colby Parkinson, the latter of which was a 30+ yard catch-and-run on a well-disguised play-action fake on 3rd and 1. Atlanta bought run and they got caught out. Smith’s next throw was a beautiful 18-yard touchdown over the middle to Will Dissly to give
Seattle the lead back. 10-7 Seahawks.
Geno on a dime for the TD @Will_Diss
Seahawks TE Will Dissly TD against the Falcons.
Don't leave @CobyBryant8_ unguarded.
Mariota continued to find his receiving targets as the Seahawks defense was just unable to generate a pass rush or uh... do much of anything. Kyle Pitts made a great catch on Josh Jones to create another red zone possession for the Falcons. Thankfully, the Falcons committed a slew of penalties and Coby Bryant also
got his first career sack on a punishing nickel corner blitz to force Atlanta into a field goal attempt, which Younghoe Koo converted. 10-10.
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports
2nd Quarter
The Seahawks began the 2nd quarter with a three-and-out. Not ideal. Also not ideal? Getting a sack for a loss of nine yards (courtesy of Quinton Jefferson) and then still allowing a 3rd and 19 conversion to Olamide Zaccheaus for 26 yards. Kyle Pitts converted another 3rd down and then Cordarrelle Patterson rumbled
through for an easy touchdown. 17-10 Falcons.
Check off the first touchdown on the year for @dkm14.
Geno Smith led a 9-play, 75-yard response that included a 4th down conversion to Marquise Goodwin for 23 yards. His next pass was a dart to DK Metcalf for the tying touchdown, as DK high-pointed the ball for the score. 17-17.
For the first time all season, the Seahawks defense forced a three-and-out. I almost shed a tear of joy. Then a scare came for Seahawks fans when Tyler Lockett took a huge hit from Atlanta safety Richard Grant that jarred a pass incomplete. He got up under his own power and went to the medical tent. Geno
extended the drive with a 3rd down completion to Colby Parkinson. Smith led a very good two-minute drill that ended in a Jason Myers field goal. 20-17 Seahawks.
@JayMy_31's 31 yard field goal is in! 20-17 us.
Tariq Woolen records first career pick, first pick for Seahawks defense in '22
3rd Quarter
The Falcons benefited from an iffy roughing the passer call on Quandre Diggs, who lightly shoved Mariota just after the ball was thrown. They got into field goal range but a false start penalty and a strip sack by Darrell Taylor put Younghoe Koo in the difficult position of making a 54-yard kick, but he was up to the
challenge. 20-20.

Going one way and back another for the first. #Gohawks x @Kenneth_Walker9
For the first time this season, the Seahawks offense scored in the 2nd half. Geno Smith engineered a 13-play, 68-yard drive that saw a mixture of good, in-rhythm passes to a wide variety of targets. Kenneth Walker III had a 21-yard run on a jet sweep that saw him reverse field and gain more that way. Ultimately
the drive stalled inside the 10 and Jason Myers was brought on to give the Seahawks the lead again. 23-20 Seahawks.
Cordarrelle Patterson ripped up the Seahawks run defense for 40 yards into Seattle territory. He got another 18 to put the Falcons in the red zone. Josh Jones was shaken out of his boots by rookie Drake London to put the Falcons back on top. 27-23 Falcons.

D.K.Metcalf Checking on his Buddy Tylor Locett
4th Quarter
A promising Seahawks drive was blown up by a holding penalty on Damien Lewis. 1st and 10 in Atlanta territory turned into a 4th and 20 punt, with Geno Smith fortunate not to be intercepted on his 2nd and 20 throw.
The Falcons kept marching down the field with their rushing attack, only interrupted by a drone that delayed the game for a few minutes. In a sudden change, a bad exchange by Marcus Mariota and Tyler Allegier resulted in a fumble and a Seahawks recovery! Uchenna Nwosu on the spot.
Geno took a sack on the ensuing play, putting them behind the sticks. They got all those yards back and a little more to set up 3rd and 7, then a Noah Fant catch created 4th and inches, which Rashaad Penny converted. Geno launched a beauty to Tyler Lockett for 20 yards. A throwback screen to Penny saw him
break a tackle and get to the 10, but a hold on Damien Lewis brought it back. Geno Smith then took a sack by Grady Jarrett on 3rd and 7, setting up 4th and 18. Smith was intercepted on a desperation pass. 27-23 Falcons Final.

Next Week’s Opponent
The Seahawks are on the road for the next two weeks, starting with a trip to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Lions (1-2) on Sunday, October 2nd at 10 AM PT on FOX.
Winners
Geno Smith (and by extension, Shane Waldron)
Yes. He’s my biggest winner even with the two sacks and interception thrown on the final drive. Those sacks were not good to take but I can excuse the desperation pick They opened up the playbook and Smith performed very well, the quality of the opposition’s defense be damned. He was efficient on 3rd down,
getting the ball out on time, and while he got away with some riskier throws that weren’t picked, I felt that Geno was in command of the offense and stepping into some quality, confident, accurate throws.
If we sacrifice the lack of real explosive passing plays, you have to be able to move the ball in smaller chunks and the Seahawks consistently did that. It’s a credit to him and also Shane Waldron for a much better called game.
Yes, the offense only scored 3 points in the 2nd half but they also weren’t having rapid-fire, disastrous plays. Three 2nd half possessions is a problem and a lot of that is on a defense that refuses to generate stops until they’re backed up against their own end zone.
The big two: Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf
Lockett hauled in another 9 passes for 76 yards, continuing to be a safe pair of hands when targeted. DK Metcalf had just 5 catches out of his 12 targets, but he had 64 yards and an excellent first touchdown of the year. I guess Metcalf will get dinged for one drop in the 4th quarter but it was tipped so that changed
the trajectory of the ball at the last moment. It didn’t matter much because Seattle got the first down on the next snap anyway. Four of DK’s five catches resulted in a first down or a touchdown, and some of the incomplete passes were just bad or difficult throws by Smith.
Seahawks vs. 49ers: Offense inept, defense overpowered in 27-7 loss for Seattle
Discussing the big blocked field goal that resulted into a touchdown.
The Seattle Seahawks (1-1) shocked many when they bested the Denver Broncos in Russell Wilson’s return to Lumen Field. But their road opener against the San Francisco 49ers (1-1)? Horrific. A 27-7 loss that wasn’t even that close.
Seattle’s offense has now gone six straight quarters without an offensive touchdown, as Geno Smith and company could never get going against a fearsome 49ers defense. Only 210 yards of total offense and both Smith and DeeJay Dallas (!!) threw interceptions. Rashaad Penny and Kenneth Walker III were held to a
combined 25 yards on 10 carries, while Smith could barely complete a pass more than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Tyler Lockett was one of the few bright spots with over 100 yards receiving on the afternoon.
The Seahawks’ only touchdown was a blocked field goal return by Michael Jackson after Tariq Woolen stormed through and blocked Robbie Gould. The defense was gashed for 189 yards rushing and really struggled early on before playing with some level of improvement in the 2nd half.
Unfortunately, this game did have a horrible injury suffered by 49ers quarterback Trey Lance. An awkward hit in the opening quarter resulted in a right ankle injury that is expected to end his season. He was carted off the field with an air cast placed on his right leg. All the best to Trey as he recovers from such a
devastating injury.
Can't-Miss Play: Blocked FG turns into 86-yard TD for Seahawks' Michael Jackson
Watch Steve Raible call Michael Jackson's touchdown against the 49ers
1st Quarter
The 49ers got the ball first and had no problem marching down the field with their rushing attack, which mixed in Jeff Wilson Jr, Tyrion Davis-Price, and of course quarterback Trey Lance. As has been the theme for the Seahawks defense this early in the season and much of last year, it was the red zone where they
tightened up and forced the 49ers into a field goal, which Robbie Gould converting. 3-0 49ers.
Geno Smith’s first series was not like last week’s. The only first down was a run up the middle by rookie Kenneth Walker III. After that, they were stopped on 3rd and 5 and punted away.
Deebo Samuel broke through for a 52-yard run after just about breaking the ankles of Darrell Taylor and bursting into the secondary. A couple of plays later, Trey Lance took a heavy hit on a designed run, as both Cody Barton and Bryan Mine converged on him. He was down, in pain, and replaced by Jimmy
Garoppolo. He was carted off the field with an apparent lower leg injury. An air cast was on his right leg and you just feel so much for him. Garoppolo came in and could not keep the chains moving and the 49ers settled for 3 more. 6-0 49ers.
2nd Quarter
Once again, the Seahawks could only muster up one first down and then stalled once Kenneth Walker III got in the game. A second punt for Michael Dickson in as many possessions. Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in and just diced up a poor Seahawks defense on his way to a 38-yard TD to tight end Ross Dwelley. George
who? Not needed. 13-0 49ers.
Geno’s response was to throw an interception to Tashaun Gipson on a deflected pass.
The 49ers could not capitalize on great field position, as they went for it on 4th and 8 at the Seattle 39 and the deep ball to Danny Gray was almost intercepted by Quandre Diggs. A turnover on downs instead of kicking a field goal or taking a delay of game to punt it.
DK Metcalf thought he had an amazing catch on a trick play double pass, but Abe Lucas was illegally downfield. What a heartbreaker because this was a fantastic grab.
Smith was picked a second time but the officials flagged Emmanuel Moseley for pass interference, which looked pretty shaky but nevertheless put the Seahawks into 49ers territory. Geno hit a beautiful throw on the run to Tyler Lockett to get the Seahawks into the red zone.
Then this stupidity happened. Shane Waldron, never with this again.
Thankfully the 49ers punted after that. Unthankfully, Tyler Lockett got run into by his own teammate Xavier Crawford, who was blocked into him but with no flag. So this became a fumble. Three turnovers by the Seahawks. This one led to a Kyle Juszczyk touchdown. 20-0 49ers.
3rd Quarter
Three-and-out to start the 2nd half? Yeah, sure. The Seahawks just looked so discombobulated and disjointed on both sides of the ball. San Francisco continued to get whatever they want against a very vulnerable Seahawks defensive unit. Once again they went into the red zone, but again the Seahawks tightened
up. A bad snap on 3rd and goal led to a 20-yard field goal attempt by Robbie Gould... which was BLOCKED! Tariq Woolen with the block and Michael Jackson with the scoop and score. That’s how you end a shutout! 20-7 49ers.
Just when it looked like the 49ers had been forced into a three-and-out, an illegal contact penalty on Coby Bryant extended the series. It wouldn’t go for much longer as the Seahawks defense held firm even without showing much of a pass rush. The offense of course went three-and-out again.
4th Quarter
If you expected the Seahawks offense to score points... hahahahahahaha. San Francisco killed a lot of clock and then got another touchdown for good measure. Jimmy Garoppolo scored on a QB sneak at the 1-yard line on 4th and goal. 27-7 49ers FINAL.

Seahawks winning the Russell Wilson trade so far

The Denver Broncos got the win on Sunday, but their star quarterback, Russell Wilson, got trolled pretty hard on social media.
Denver had a pretty tough time on offense on Sunday, with the Broncos star quarterback and his unit getting booed pretty hard throughout the game.
During the game, one sportsbook revealed a new bet for Wilson and his MVP odds.
"RUSS IS COOKED Russell Wilson has played so poorly to start the season that we're giving a FREE BET to everyone who placed a bet on Russ to win MVP!" PointsBet tweeted.
Yikes!
"This is so cold…" one fan wrote.
"That’s hilarious," one fan added.
"Do this for the Bengals," another fan added.
The Broncos, meanwhile, managed to improve to 1-1 on the season with the win.
Well, so far both sides of The Trade haven’t looked too great to start the 2022 NFL season.
Yet only Russell Wilson carried any lofty expectations into this year, and his start has been so poor that fans of the Denver Broncos enthusiastically booed him in the win over the Houston Texans in Week 2.
Yes, that’s correct, it’s Week 2 and Broncos fans are already booing the savior who arrived to return the team to the postseason for the first time since Peyton Manning hoisted a Lombardi at the end of the 2015 season.
Bobby Wagner gets real on Seahawks savage treatment of Russell Wilson
“At the end of the day fans understand that you have your moment and then you move on. And I think they viewed him as like an opposing quarterback. The reception that he got was what any quarterback that’s an opposing quarterback would get,” said Wagner.
On Monday night, the Denver Broncos opened their season up taking on the Seattle Seahawks. It was Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle, right out of the gate in Week 1 after leaving for Denver. Because of that, it was one of the more anticipated games of the weekend. Many people were wondering what type of
reception the Super Bowl winning quarterback would receive.
As it turned out, the Seahawks fans booed him relentlessly from pregame to finish. Some expected there might be an applause initially. After all, Wilson helped the franchise win their first Super Bowl crown. Alas, that turned out not to be the case.
Former legendary linebacker and member of the Super Bowl winning squad, Bobby Wager, provided his take on why the fans reacted the way they did.

Melvin Gordon has message for Pete Carroll, Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks pulled off a big upset in their season opener against the Denver Broncos on Monday night, and Melvin Gordon does not seem pleased with the way they carried themselves after the win.
Gordon apparently felt that Pete Carroll and others on the Seattle sideline were a bit too enthusiastic when they stole a 17-16 victory from the Broncos. The veteran running back said he took note of Carroll “doing his little celebrating” and hopes Denver meets the Seahawks again down the road.
It is hard to blame Carroll and company for being excited. For starters, they were nearly a touchdown underdog against the Russell Wilson-led Broncos. They held their former quarterback in check thanks in large part to their famous 12th man advantage at Lumen Field.
The ending of the game was also quite dramatic. Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett made the puzzling decision to attempt a 64-yard field goal with less than 20 seconds left. That proved to be the wrong call. Carroll seemed just as surprised by it as anyone else.
We highly doubt the Broncos and Seahawks will be the two teams representing the AFC and NFC conferences in the Super Bowl, but it is far too early to say. Should that happen, Gordon and his teammates will be out for revenge.
PETE IS ALL OF US RIGHT NOW! @budlight #BudLightCelly
Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle was set up for him to deliver a clutch game-winning drive. The Seattle Seahawks (1-0) had other ideas.
With a mixture of stout red zone defense, horrible discipline by the Denver Broncos (0-1), and a ridiculous clock management decision by head coach Nathaniel Hackett (and maybe Wilson?), the Seahawks pulled off the 17-16 upset over the heavily favored Broncos in front of a packed house at Lumen Field. Wilson
heard the boos but threw for 340 yards on 29/42 and a touchdown. Geno Smith was one of the stars of the show, starting off red hot before cooling off with a 23/28 for 195 yards and 2 TDs stat line.
Brandon McManus had a chance to give the Broncos the win from 64 yards out after that aforementioned horrible clock management, but the veteran kicker hooked it wide left. That’ll be a talking point!
But the story here is the Seahawks’ stingy defense in the red zone, including two goal-line forced fumbles, as well as a very effective 1st half offense that had the Broncos defense reeling.
1-0 and atop the NFC West!

A Very Happy Pete Carroll!!!
1st Quarter
The Seahawks started the season on offense after Denver won the coin toss. Geno Smith converted an early 3rd down to Tyler Lockett for 17 yards, hanging in the pocket and making a good throw. His next 3rd down throw? He escaped pressure up that middle and threw on the run to a wide open Will Dissly who
eased his way into the end zone for 38 yards! 7-0 Seahawks after an incredible opening drive.
Met with a bevy of boos, Russell Wilson led the Broncos offense down the field pretty easily. Two big plays by the tight end Andrew Beck had Denver deep in Seattle territory. Jamal Adams nearly picked Wilson as he was scrambling to make a play, and then a false start had Denver behind the sticks. On 3rd and 10,
Wilson threw a checkdown to Melvin Gordon but he was well short of the marker. Brandon McManus hit from 38 yards out to make it 7-3 Seahawks.
The Broncos committed a pass interference on Will Dissly and then a head shot on Noah Fant on the first two plays of the Seahawks’ ensuing drive. Just like that Seattle was in Denver’s half of the field. A good run by Rashaad Penny put the Seahawks in the red zone. On 4th and inches, the Seahawks went for it
inside Denver’s 10. Smith sneaked but slipped and came up short.
Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports
2nd Quarter
The Broncos got out of their unfavorable field position but again their penalty problems continued. A false start put them at 1st and 15, followed by a sack of Wilson by Uchenna Nwosu, and on 3rd down there was an illegal formation penalty as Wilson hurriedly threw the ball away after escaping a Jamal Adams sack.
The bad news for the Seahawks was Adams went to the medical tent noticeably limping. He did not return.
Seattle benefited from more penalties against the Broncos, including a really lame taunting call on what was otherwise a no gain play for Dee Eskridge. Rashaad Penny broke free for a huge run on the right side of the line but he was stripped of the ball, and Austin Blythe was there for the clutch recovery.
Unfortunately, Phil Haynes’ holding penalty later on in the series had the Seahawks going backwards, and they had to work just to get back into FG range. Jason Myers was true from 49! 10-3 Seahawks.
Curiously, Russell Wilson hadn’t thrown a single pass to a receiver for 1.5 quarters. The first time he did it? Jerry Jeudy burned rookie corner Coby Bryant for the 67-yard score to level things at 10-10.
Smith was perfect through his first 13 pass attempts and just playing so assuredly. He stepped away from pressure, was decisive with his reads, and made good throws to Marquise Goodwin and two to Colby Parkinson. His second throw to Parkinson was Colby’s first NFL touchdown! Gone for 25 yards on a well-
designed play. 17-10 Seahawks.
Russell Wilson hit Courtland Sutton for a big 30-yard gain on 3rd down in the two-minute drill to put Denver in field goal range. Quandre Diggs dropped a gimme interception in the end zone which was the difference between Denver coming away with nothing and instead coming away with a field goal. A shoutout to
Cody Barton for a sack that helped throw off Denver’s series. 17-13 Seahawks.
3rd Quarter
Russell Wilson converted an early 3rd down on the opening series to Courtland Sutton, who got behind the coverage as Wilson had all the time to work. A deep shot to Sutton resulted in a DPI on rookie Tariq Woolen and thus a goal-to-go situation. Denver’s sloppiness and penalties put them in unfavorable situations
in down and distance. Melvin Gordon got within a yard of pay dirt on 3rd and goal, then got the carry on 4th and goal... and coughed it up! TURNOVER! AMAZING! Mike Jackson on the recovery!
Seattle continued to advance the ball through good pass plays and ill-disciplined Broncos penalties. DK Metcalf made a great 3rd and 10 catch on Patrick Surtain to extend the drive, only to lose a fumble on a screen pass the very next play.
Tariq Woolen committed yet another DPI on KJ Hamler this time and on that occasion he saved a touchdown. Facing 3rd and goal at the 1, Javonte Williams also coughed it up! Mike Jackson recovered the ball after Uchenna Nwosu stripped him! Can you believe it?!
4th Quarter
The Seahawks again were unable to take advantage of the takeaway but at least they flipped field position. Geno Smith made a couple of third down conversions with his arms and legs, but the drive ended with Smith getting strip-sacked by Bradley Chubb, who blew right by rookie Charles Cross. Thankfully, Cross
caught the ball in mid-air to prevent yet another lost fumble.
The Broncos embarked on a 15-play, 72-yard drive filled with the type of clutch Russell Wilson play we’ve grown accustomed to for years. However, once inside the 5-yard line they stalled again. A touchdown on a shovel pass was nullified by a false start, and Wilson threw 2nd and 3rd down passes out of bounds.
Another red zone stand! 17-16 Seahawks with 6:16 left.
Peyton Manning almost lost his mind at no Timeout call
The Seahawks picked a bad time to go three-and-out, as Chubb sacked Geno a second time and gave the ball back to Denver via punt. Denver barely avoided a three-and-out (or maybe a decision to go for it on 4th down) by the barest of margins when Albert Okwuegbunam made a hell of an effort to extend to the
sticks. Pete Carroll wasted a timeout too on the challenge.
Out of the two-minute warning, Javonte Williams broke several tackles and picked up a first down on a short throw that got them near midfield. Another screen to Williams was blown up by Cody Barton, who was injured on the play and walked off under his own power. That put Denver in 2nd and 14, then Wilson
pump faked it into the ground, and Williams gained 9 on a checkdown. The Broncos curiously ran the clock down and then settle for a 64-yard field goal, which prompted a timeout by the Seahawks. McManus from 64... WIDE LEFT! SEAHAWKS WIN! 17-16 Seahawks Final.
