Seattle Kraken fans: On Your Mark... Get Set... Obsess!
After every Kraken game from now until they either make - or are eliminated from - the NHL playoffs, we'll provide these updated charts.
The top three teams in each NHL division qualify for the playoffs. Of all the remaining teams in each conference, the top two also earn playoff berths. These teams are known as "Wild Card 1" and "Wild Card 2."
For now, we'll focus on the Western Conference Wild Card 2 race, as that appears the most likely way for Seattle to squeeze into the post-season.
The first chart will provide an easy comparison between the Kraken, the team currently occupying "WC 2," and the teams closest to the Kraken "in the hunt."
"Regulation Wins" matters (as opposed to overtime or shootout wins), because if teams end up with the same number of points, regulation wins is the first tie-breaker.
"Games Remaining" show how many points a team can still potentially earn (2x number of games). A related term is "games in hand." If Team A has 20 games remaining and Team B has 18 games left, Team A has "two games in hand."
"Last 10 Results" is useful as an indicator of how contending teams are trending."Strength of Schedule" refers to the combined winning percentage of a team's remaining opponents. In this category, a lower number is better - but no guarantee.
Many online sports sites have developed formulas for determining the likelihood a team will reach the post-season. As you'll see, estimates widely vary. Remember, this is for entertainment purposes only.

McCann tied it 36 seconds into the final period when his shot from close range fluttered off Couturier’s stick and past Petersen’s glove.
“There were more plays to be had, especially in the first half of the hockey game,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “Little bit off in execution.”
Laughton, elevated to the power play on Saturday morning, gave Philadelphia to a 1-0 lead with a one-timed slap shot 4:36 into the contest. It was a rare power-play goal for the Flyers, who entered second-from-last in the NHL by converting on just 13% of their chances. The goal

Seattle evened the score with 2:51 left in the period when Tatar fired a wrist shot from the slot past Petersen’s blocker side. Tortorella challenged the goal for a potential offsides by the Kraken, but the officials upheld the goal after a video review.
The Flyers answered when Poehling scored Philadelphia’s 12th short-handed goal of the season for a 2-1 lead with 1:46 left in the period. Philadelphia entered tied with Dallas for most short-handed goals in the league. Poehling’s wrist shot from a sharp angle slid under Daccord’s pads.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic breaks through for Sharks in the 3rd
Jan Ruttaadded an empty-net goal for the Sharks, who have won four of their last five games to move two points ahead of the idleChicago Blackhawksat the bottom of the NHL standings.
Blackwood earned his first shutout since December 2021 with theNew Jersey Devils. It was San Jose’s first shutout of the season.
“I think we have confidence now that we can close a game out, whereas at the start of the year we were gripping the sticks a little too tight and making panic plays,” Blackwood said. “But we seem calm and believe we can close a game out, and we did a really good job.”
The Kraken outshot the Sharks 32-22, including 13-3 in the first period, but fell to 6-3 all-time against San Jose. Joey Daccordstopped 20 shots in the loss.
“I thought we played great, generated a lot of offense, carried most of the play,” Daccord said. “Their goalie played unreal. Sometimes a goalie of that caliber can do that. He stole a game for them tonight.”
Vlasic’s goal was his fourth of the season and second in two games. He beat Daccord high blocker side on a wrist shot from the left point.
Jan Rutta scores empty netter the entire length of the ice
Rutta extended his point streak to five games, scoring his third goal of the season with 21 seconds left.
"I thought we got better as the game went on,” Sharks coach David Quinn said. “You’re hanging around at 0-0 and I thought we had our best period of the game in the third. Obviously, Blackie made some big saves for us, kept us in it. Like I said, I thought we elevated our game in the

The Kraken have lost six of eight following a nine-game winning streak. They trail theLos Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues andNashville Predatorsby two points for a wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
“We didn’t (look past the Sharks),” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “They played their tails off on the other side tonight. They defended hard. Their goaltender made good saves and they got the first break offensively. Our guys worked hard tonight.”

St. Louis, which trailed 3-1 in the second period, won its fourth straight game and picked up two points in the crowded race for one of the Western Conference's wild-card spots.
And they completed an impressive three-game road trip, rallying from a two-goal deficit to beat Calgary, topping Vancouver in overtime and finishing the trip with a comeback win in Seattle. All three games finished 4-3.
“We’re committed more to the standards that we’re asking for our guys and we’re starting to see that, and I think that has to do with resiliency,” interim St. Louis coach Drew Bannister said. “But I think guys are just more focused on what they can control right now and the things that
we can’t control aren’t a distraction.”

St. Louis (52 points) moved within one point of both Nashville and Los Angeles in the wild-card race, while Seattle (50 points) moved three points back. Both the Kraken and Blues have two games remaining before the All-Star break.

Bjorkstrand’s power-play goal 3:55 into the second period came moments after Daccord stopped a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush by the Blues. The save led to a breakout for Seattle and eventually Bjorkstrand’s sixth power-play goal of the season.
Bjorkstrand was also the reason for Tolvanen’s goal less than three minutes later. Bjorkstrand’s backcheck onScott Perunovichled to a steal and Tolvanen eventually finished the play off a pass fromYanni Gourde.
But Seattle lamented the missed chances that could have given them a fourth goal. None was bigger thanJaden Schwartzmissing an open net late in second period that would have given Seattle a 4-2 lead.
Daccord made 14 saves for the Kraken.

Kraken end four-game losing streak, stay in the middle of Western Conference playoff race with big nights from Tomas Tatar, Joey Daccord, and Jordan Eberle
Seattle Kraken vs. Chicago Blackhawks | 1/24 Game Highlights
DEFENDED THE DEEP
We are gathered here today to celebrate the size of this W
During the course of any NHL team’s run at a Stanley Cup Playoffs bid, there are games that are must-win and others that are need-to-take-care-of-business wins. Wednesday was the latter with a rebuilding Chicago team missing a big piece of that re-do with rookie sensation Connor
Bedard out for another five weeks with a welcome-to-the-league broken jaw. Seattle jumped out to a two-goal advantage seven minutes into the game, then notched two more scores by the second intermission for a 4-1 lead. The teams traded goals early third period to set up the
eventual 6-2 victory. Joey Daccord faced 15 shots in a scoreless first period and finished with 34 saves.
That’s taking care of business when and as needed. St. Louis, fellow Western Conference wild-card pursuer who beat red-hot Vancouver Wednesday, is here Friday and then Columbus is on the business ledger Sunday. Seattle now has 20 wins on the season against 18 losses and nine
points from overtime/shootout losses. It adds up to 49 points amid a bunched group of seven teams vying for two spots. There are plenty of take-care-of-biz wins required and probably some must-wins come March and April.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Donato Back in Town and...
In the first period during a power play, Kraken original (he scored the first-ever Seattle regular-season goal) and now Chicago forward Ryan Donato was busting net-front as is part of his usual game. SEA defenseman Will Borgen interceded to take him down and Donato took exception.
In fact, Donato was scrappy on more than one first-period shift, clearly noticed by CHI coach Luke Richardson and the Boston native’s new teammates.
In the third period, with the visiting Blackhawks tightening the score to 4-2 with a power play goal, Donato sped up ice from fairly deep in his own zone for a breakaway on Seattle goalie Joey Daccord (possible this very scenario happened before but in post-practice extra time at Kraken
Community Iceplex or maybe at optional morning skate?). The Kraken rookie made the save in Donato’s deke and backhand shot to thunderous cheers from the capacity crowd and seconds later Tomas Tatar got behind the Chicago defense for his own breakaway, which drew even more
thunder and decibels when Tatar beat Arvid Soderblom to salt this game.
Tatar scored later in the final frame to establish a 6-2 final with Will Borgen picking up his 16th assist as the top-four D-man continues his career year for points and time on ice. It is the veteran’s fourth and fifth goals along with four assists in 16 games (plus all sorts of right-time, right-
place instances in all zones) since he was wisely acquired in a trade by GM Ron Francis.
PARTYIN’ IN THE PNW
Tomas Tatar Tallies Goal vs. Blackhawks
“You look at it and go, maybe it's good luck,” said Dave Hakstol when asked about Tatar’s impressive production since joining the Kraken lineup. “He’s found some good chemistry with a couple of different lines. Or maybe there's something [more] to it. He's an intelligent player who finds
a way to make the guys that he's playing with a little bit better. We've really liked his competitiveness on the puck, his poise in every situation. And the ability to mesh with a couple of different linemates [center Matty Beniers and fill-in center Jared McCann along with steady work with
Jordan Eberle]. He's been really effective and obviously tonight he really helped, put this game away.”
Energizing First Period
During a road game at Columbus that marked a franchise-record ninth straight victory on Jan. 13, coach Dave Hakstol said he sensed a drop in energy even as his squad tied the game three straight times by mid-match and finally finished off the Blue Jackets with three straight third-
period goals on the way to 7-4 win. But by the ensuing Monday afternoon in a game moved up into a Martin Luther King Day matinee, Hakstol, and his coaches knew an illness spreading among players was going to be a challenge (these insights revealed during a KJR radio interview with
play-by-play man and the PNW’s most ardent Detroit Lions fan, Everett Fitzhugh). Even ironman Adam Larsson had to call it quits for the day after doing his best to skate and defend and generate his underrated contribution to scoring chances.
Along with injuries to notables such as Matty Beniers (still out, left Columbus game early) and Vince Dunn (back Wednesday, not illness-related), the Kraken’s wattage was never the bright 100 percent that Hakstol expects from his group of one-for-all veterans and rookies (hello, Joey
Daccord, Tye Kartye, and Ryker Evans) more than holding their own against formidable opponents and more than few all-stars. The result of the energy drain was a four-game losing streak that didn’t help much in keeping close to the two wild-card spots available to Western Conference
contenders who can’t clinch third place or better in their divisions.
WE’RE YEETIN’ GOOD TONIGHT
Wednesday’s 6-2 win over Chicago might not be the long-term cure for securing a playoff spot, but it certainly represents a welcome tonic to reset the season. Hakstol said Tuesday’s practice was the first time in two weeks that “everyone felt good” about their energy and stamina levels.
It showed with first-period goals from Jared McCann (his team-leading 19th) and Jaden Schwartz (who nearly scored 13 seconds earlier on the same shift with a two-way game that looks as good as any point in his Kraken career).
"This game was huge for us,” said Eberle, who notched two primary assists on the night, including Tatar’s breakaway score. “We've lost four in a row. You know, we see the standings, we need to start climbing. That's a massive game [and two standings points].
“We got ahead there and then we stopped playing for 10 minutes in the first period. They came back, so we responded and found a way. But we still have little details we need to fix and you know, Joey was there to make some huge saves.”
Some positive signs along with McCann’s fifth goal in his last six games and Schwartz, recovered from an early-season injury, getting rewarded with his 10th goal of the year: Jordan Eberle masterminded the McCann goal with signature behind-the-net mobility and now has three goals
and four assists in the last half-dozen games. Andre Burakovsky, in just his 16th appearance of the season, notched a primary assist (his shot was deflected) on Schwartz’s goal. Everyone in the locker room and coaches' quarters would love to see the two-time Stanley Cup winner get on
a heater.
Brandon Tanev Nets Goal for Kraken
There’s more upward trends: Vince Dunn earned an assist three shifts into his return from the four-game layoff on Schwartz’s goal. Dave Hakstol, not prone to idle praise, reinforced his view that Dunn is a game-changer and big-moment performer during Wednesday’s morning skate
media scrum when confirming the Kraken leading scorer was ready to go. This particular assist was garden-variety, deftly keeping the puck in-zone, but still a team-leading 28th on the year.
Wait, What Happened?
Fifteen seconds into the middle period, Alex Wennberg was credited with his eighth goal of the season, but Chicago’s stalwart defenseman Seth Jones actually did most of the work. Jones and Wennberg were puck-battling when Jones gained control and moved the puck to a teammate
but bounced off rookie CHI defenseman Alex Vlasic and pinballed its way past Chicago goaltender Arvid Soderblom, who was chased from the net in his last game here at Climate Pledge Arena. This goal was clearly not his doing.
Nick Foligno tallies goal for Chicago Blackhawks on the power play
Late second period, Brian Dumoulin (with a starter pass from rookie Tye Kartye) zipped a pass to Brandon Tanev, who quick-released a shot to make it 4-1. Nice move from Tanev, still clearly beloved for mixing it up with three different Toronto players Sunday night.

Kraken score 3 second-period goals to pull away for 5-2 win over Sabres
Seattle Kraken vs. Buffalo Sabres: Game Highlights
“We went through a couple games losing and we had a little talk that we had to do something and we responded well and obviously right now you’re riding the wave,” Wennberg said.
“I think it was the mistakes we made, simple as that,” Sabres coach Don Granato said. “I don’t want to discredit them obviously, good hockey team and a team that came in here hot, confident ... but they’re in a stretch where they’re very confident and we made mistakes that, we pressed.”
Jaden Schwartz lights the lamp for Kraken
Skinner opened the scoring 4:57 into the game when he was left all alone in the right circle and put a shot through Daccord’s legs to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead.
Gourde evened the score with 6:05 left in the first, finishing a rebound in front of the Buffalo net following a Sabres turnover.
Dunn gave the Kraken a 2-1 lead on the power play with 1:10 left in the first. Following a nice passing sequence, Dunn fired a wrist shot from the left circle to put Seattle ahead.
The teams quickly traded goals to open the second period. Tuch scored 50 seconds into the second, redirecting a shot from Skinner for his 11th goal of the season to tie it at 2. Wennberg scored on a breakaway two minutes later to restore Seattle’s lead, beating Levi with a backhand shot.
Matty Beniers tallies Goal vs. Sabres
The Kraken then took control of the game, slowing the pace and capitalizing on Buffalo’s mistakes.
Schwartz made it 4-2 on a redirection with 8:26 left in the second. Schwartz was making his return to the ice after missing 16 games with an upper-body injury.
“You always want to chip in,” Schwartz said. “Each night you see different guys chipping in and each line or the defense chipping in with game winners. That’s what makes it fun, having everyone involved and everyone excited for each other.”
Beniers increased Seattle’s lead to 5-2 with 3:47 left in the second on a shot to the glove side. Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlinsmashed his stick onto the Buffalo net in frustration after the goal went in.

The Colorado Avalanche lost anotherhockey game to the Seattle Krakenon Thursday night — and they may have lost Artturi Lehkonen long-term after the forward wenthead-first into the boardsand was transported to the hospital following a 4-3 loss.
Lehkonen was on the receiving end of a heavy hit from Kraken defenseman Jamie Oleksiak in thesecond period at Ball Arena. It appeared his head hit the glass, and he remained on the ice for minutes before being helped off and down the tunnel.
“Artturi Lehkonen left tonight’s game in the second period. He is alert, responsive and has full movement. He is being taken to a local hospital as a precaution for further evaluation,” the team announced in a statement during the game.
It’s probably safe to assume that Lehkonen will not be suiting up when the Avalanche clash with the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night, although more details are expected to be revealed at some point on Friday.
It’s a brutal blow for a Colorado team that has struggled as of late; the Avs have lost four of six to fall to 8-4, but remain in second place in the Central Division.
The Avalanche just can’t seem to find a way to beat a less talented Kraken team.Seattle shocked Colorado— and the hockey world — by defeating the then defending Stanley Cup champions in Game 7 of the Western Conference first-round in 2023.
And the success in Denver continued on Thursday night, with the 5-6-3 Kraken getting a late goal from Oliver Bjorkstrand to seal the victory. It was Bjorkstrand’s second of the game, and came with just 32 seconds remaining in regulation.
“As a whole, that’s the way I want our team to compete. We played hard,” Avs coach Jared Bednar admitted afterwards. “We weren’t perfect, but you’re never going to be. We did a nice job.”
Colorado did look to be the better team in the contest, but couldn’t find a way to secure the victory against a pesky Seattle club.
The Avs will look for a better result when the Blues are in town on Saturday night, and will also hope for positive news on Artturi Lehkonen.

“He was able to jump in and find the lane. Great shot,” Devils coach Lindy Ruff said of Nemec. "He had a couple opportunities where he was in on good offensive plays. His hockey sense, his ability to pick the right time, it’s been good.”
Nemec, the No. 2 pick in the 2022 draft, made his debut last week at home against San Jose and had two assists in his first game. His first goal was largely due to the play made byJesper Bratt carrying the puck after Seattle was unable to clear its defensive zone. Bratt circled behind the
net and allowed Nemec to slide unmarked into the slot, where he beatPhilipp Grubauerinto an open side.
It was Bratt’s 19th assist of the season.
Ondrej Palat puts Devils ahead vs. Kraken
“I was really happy. I didn't look happy, but I was,” Nemec said.
Ondrej Palatscored his fourth goal late in the first period to give New Jersey the early lead. Schmid rebounded nicely after giving up five goals on 17 shots in his previous game against San Jose.
Schmid was peppered for a big chunk of the third and came up with several big stops. He robbedJared McCanntwice midway through the period, stuffed Alex Wennberg’s chance in front and watched Jordan Eberle’s backhand shot slide through the crease during a Seattle power play.
Jared McCann hit the crossbar on a 2-on-1 with 3:01 left in what was Seattle's last good look.
“There was a couple opportunities where they could have gained some momentum and he made some big saves for us,” Ruff said.
Tye Kartye scored his fifth of the season at 7:12 of the second period off a feed from Wennberg, but Seattle lost its sixth straight game. The slide is the longest for the Kraken since dropping seven straight in February 2022, midway through the franchise's first season.
“I thought our guys did a really good job of that today, not allowing anything that’s in the past or anything that’s coming in front of us affect our day or game today,” coach Dave Hakstol said. “We have to continue doing that. And we worked hard tonight. We competed extremely hard.”
Andre Burakovskyreturned for Seattle after being out since Oct. 21 with an upper-body injury, but went to the locker room with about three minutes left in the second. Burakovsky was back on the ice for the third, but played only two shifts. Hakstol said Burakovsky was unavailable for
most of the period.
Tye Kartye's simple finish levels it up for the Kraken
Grubauer made 15 saves.
“We've got to change something. I mean, obviously, we can't let this just keep going,” Wennberg said.
Ryker Evans, Seattle’s second-round pick in the 2021 draft, made his NHL debut after being called up from Coachella Valley of the AHL. He became the fourth draft pick by the Kraken to play in an NHL game, joining Matty Beniers, Shane Wright and Ryan Winterton.
Simon Nemec's first NHL goal gives Devils back the lead
With Montreal up 3-2, and Seattle pressing, Anderson floated the puck from his own zone and into the Kraken’s net with 32 seconds left.
Jared McCann Scores Goal for Seattle Kraken
Anderson said he focused on getting back to the basics instead of worrying about his drought in the past couple weeks.
“I just said ‘You’ve got to get back to the way you’re playing, you’re in this league for a reason,’” he said. “Just go out there and do your thing, don’t focus about scoring, and just try to get back to your game and things will take care of themselves.”
Vince Dunn Capitalizes on the Power Play
Tanner Pearsonalso had a goal for Montreal (11-11-3), which won its first game at home since Nov. 11.
Samuel Montembeault made 31 saves in his first start since signing a three-year, $9.45 million contract extension with the Canadiens. He looked sharp early and robbed Kraken forwardAlex Wennbergon two separate occasions with left-pad saves on the doorstep.
“There were a lot of distractions the last couple days, a lot of messages, so I wanted to put that behind me quickly,” said Montembeault. “My legs felt good tonight.”
Monahan opened the scoring at 4:03 of the first period afterJake Evansforced a turnover. Pearson doubled Montreal’s lead 3:12 into the second period by burying a rebound.
Monahan scored his second on the power play to make it 3-0 at 6:58 of the second.
Tanner Pearson Tallies Goal vs. Kraken
He had gone 14 games without scoring, but was focused on Anderson.
“The guys are happy for Andy, he’s been through some tough times to start here,” said Monahan. “You get a win on home ice, he gets his first and yeah, it feels good.”
Seattle cut into the deficit as McCann fired a wrist shot past Montembeault at 14:05 of the second for his team-leading 12th goal.
Dunn brought the Kraken to within one with a slap shot over Montembeault’s right shoulder on the power play 4:49 into the third, but Seattle heads home from a four-game road trip without a point.
“It’s really unacceptable to come out with nothing,” Dunn said. “We see how well we can play so maybe we (can look at that) and understand how close we are, but being close doesn’t cut it, it doesn’t win you games, it needs to be complete and it’s definitely not even close to that right now.”
Veteran forward Brendan Gallagherplayed in his 700th NHL game, all with the Canadiens. Montreal drafted Gallagher in the fifth round, 147th overall, in the 2010 draft. He has 207 goals and 198 assists and is the 27th player to reach the 700-game milestone in franchise history.

Tonight marks Justin Schultz’s 700th@NHLgame. Congrats, Justin!
Mathieu JosephandDrake Bathersonscored goals to help the Senators snap a three-game ski d and get just their second home win. Forsberg's shutout was the fourth of his career and evened his record to 4-4-0 this season.
Coming into the game, Forsberg was last in the league among goaltenders who had played at least one game with an .850 save percentage.
“It’s been tough,” Forsberg said. “It’s been a lot of ups and downs, obviously. Some good games, some bad games. I’ve got to find consistency, the whole team’s got to find some consistency. We’ve got to win games on a more regular basis here.”
Joey Daccordfinished with 26 saves for the Kraken, losers of four straight (0-3-1).
“We’re here to get two points so we’re not really trying to win the game of positives, negatives,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “We’re trying to win a hockey game.”
Trailing 2-0 going into the third period, the Kraken pushed hard to get on the scoresheet, but Forsberg was solid. Seattle outshot Ottawa 15-3 in the third.
“Capping that off with a win, I think, was big for our group,” Stutzle said. “I think we played pretty well for 60 minutes. I think we could have scored more goals, and our (defensemen) did a heck of a job there blocking every shot, even in the last 10 seconds (Erik Brannstrom) ate one
and that shows our commitment.”

Senators coach D.J. Smith was also pleased with his team's effort.
“I just thought we stuck with it, blocked a lot of shots,” Smith said. “Obviously, goaltending was a big difference here tonight for us. Penalty kill got a couple of good kills. I thought we got a lot of contributions from a lot of guys away from the puck.”
Ottawa opened the scoring late in the first period afterMatty Benierslost an edge and lost the puck. Joseph was in front to pick it up and beat D’Accord for his fifth of the season with 2:39 remaining.
Both teams had a slow start to the second with the first shot of the period not coming until 8:22.
The Senators took a 2-0 lead at the 13-minute mark afterVladimir Tarasenkowon a battle behind the net to feedTim Stutzle, who passed to a wide-open Batherson. Stutzle picked up his 200th career point on the play.

“The rim came and it just hit my stick and bounced in the air and took a really bad bounce,” Daccord said. “I was trying to corral it and couldn’t corral it and saw (defensemanWill Borgen) coming so I thought he was coming to pick it up and had a bit of miscommunication. He thought I
was going to play it, I thought he was going to pick it up and they capitalize. We’ll clean that up and I’ll be better for it.”
Ottawa had a brief scare whenThomas Chabotwent down hard and left the ice favoring his right leg, but the defenseman returned after a brief absence.

“I was really proud of the guys," said forwardNick Foligno, one of Chicago's alternate captains. “Even when we wavered, even when we had a dip and it looked like we were kind of giving them some goals, we just find our way back again.”
Chicago announced that it is cutting ties withCorey Perryafter the veteran forward engaged in what the organization called unacceptable conduct. The team said in a statement that an internal investigation showed Perry acted in violation of his NHL Standard Player Contract and club
policies “intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”
Pat Morris, Perry’s agent, did not respond to messages seeking comment.
Players, along with the coaching staff, were informed of Perry's departure by general manager Kyle Davidson after the team's morning skate. The news took an emotional toll, but the Blackhawks recovered to win for the third time at home in nine games.
“It's definitely a challenging day for the guys,” coach Luke Richardson said. “I thought they were totally professional tonight, did their jobs and kept mentally strong.”
Richardson said he did not address the team after Davidson.
“I was just part of the group that he addressed,” Richardson said. “There really was nothing else for me to say.”
“We made a good push at the end there,” Beniers said. “I didn't think we had our best today, but we battled hard and just didn't get what we wanted.”

“Our puck play was pretty sloppy through the first two periods,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “That causes us a lot of problems against that team the way they're going to push as soon as they have possession.”
Beniers and Wennberg struck late in the first to tie it at 2.
Beniers trailed in on the play and fired a shot that slid through Seth Jones’ block attempt and then past Mrazek with 5:17 left in the period.
Wennberg added a short-handed goal with 37 seconds left. He swept wide and beat Mrazek to complete a 2-on-1 after Chicago got crossed up on coverage.

“I think everybody's waiting for us to fall apart. These are nice wins," Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said.
With a significant contingent of Canucks fans in attendance, Vancouver won for just the second time in its past five games. The Canucks went 11 of 12 games with at least a point, but losses to Calgary, Seattle and Colorado had stemmed some of Vancouver’s early momentum.
The Canucks also improved to 4-1-0 in Seattle since the Kraken joined the league.
“I wouldn't have called it an ugly win. I thought it was a good win for us,” Hughes said. “Obviously they had some good looks, but we had some looks too.”
Thatcher Demkomade 23 saves and was excellent in the second period when Seattle controlled play but couldn't get a shot past the Vancouver goalie.
Blueger gave Vancouver the early lead, taking advantage of a turnover by Seattle defensemanJustin Schultzat center ice while on the power play and beat Kraken goaltenderJoey Daccord. Joshua doubled the lead at 12:07 of the second period finding himself in the right spot to tap the
puck past Daccord after Conor Garland’s initial shot was saved.

Lafferty gave the Canucks a 3-1 lead at 9:43 of the third redirecting Filip Hronek’s slap shot past Daccord. Hughes picked up a secondary assist on the goal, extending his points streak to 10 straight games, the longest active streak in the league.
Hoglander scored at 12:38 andIlya Mikheyevprovided the capper at 17:30 just after a power play ended. Vancouver received seven points from its third and fourth forward lines.
“Those guys put a lot of effort in in a lot of games. They’ve been getting the chances and just haven’t scored so I’m happy for those guys,” Hughes said.
Seattle stumbled at its first chance to climb above the .500 mark after a sluggish start to the season. The Kraken had picked up points in five straight games.
Tye Kartye Tallies Goal vs. Canucks

“We were ready to go at the drop of the puck,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “We came out, we scored early, but just the way we played from the drop of the puck, I thought, really, it put the momentum where we needed it to be.”
The four goals tied for the second-most first-period goals in franchise history. The first has been Seattle’s most productive period this season, with 25 of its 60 goals.
“The ability to score and knowing that you can feel confident in that ability,” Hakstol said. “I think brings a little bit of swagger to our team, and that’s one of the things that we’ve been looking to add.”

“We got to find ways to win a little bit more,” Eberle said. “I don't know how many games we've had in overtime, seems like a lot, but we've got to find games to close out if we have leads and then find a way to come back and do it in OT.”

“I feel like we had our opportunities to score a couple of more goals.” Wennberg said. “In general, I think we had a pretty good game. It’s a tough way to end it. Things happen out there, but we can’t lose this game. This is one of those games we have to fight through and find a way to
win and unfortunately we didn’t today.”

Evander Kane Tallies Goal vs. Kraken
Kane pulled the Oilers within one with 6:32 remaining in the third when he redirected Bouchard’s shot from the point.
Kane tied it with just 46 seconds remaining and Skinner pulled for the extra man. Draisaitl chipped a pass through the crease to Kane to go upstairs on Daccord.
In the extra period,Zach Hymanwaited for a Seattle defender to go down before sending the puck across to Kane for his seventh goal of the season.
“Going into a long road trip here, to get a couple wins finally at home in a row is nice. We’ve come back before, down going into the third period,” Kane said. “It was nice to be able to do that for the first time this year.”
It was Edmonton's second straight win since Kris Knoblauch replaced Jay Woodcroft as coach on Sunday.
Evander Kane Nets Goal vs. Kraken
Knoblauch was pleased his team recovered from a dreadful second-period stretch.
“The last 12 minutes of the second period was almost rock bottom, in my opinion. I didn’t think we played well at all. But in the third period, we showed a lot of passion and perseverance to stick with it,” the coach said. “Hopefully the way that we won today makes us a better team in the
long run.”
Edmonton got on the scoreboard first at 5:21 of the second period when Draisaitl sent McDavid in all alone to beat Daccord with a backhand move. McDavid scored his second in two games and his fourth of the season.
Seattle tied it 1:59 later when a rebound ofJordan Eberle's shot deflected off McCann’s shin pad and into Edmonton’s net. It was McCann’s seventh.
The Kraken took a 2-1 lead at 9:24 of the middle period after a bad clearing attempt allowedVince Dunnto fire a shot from the point that was tipped by Bellemare past Skinner for his second.
Seattle went ahead 3-1 with 2:39 remaining in the second as Wennberg picked up a rebound out front and executed a spin-around shot that eluded Skinner for his first.
Edmonton caught a break early in the third by avoiding an own-goal. With a Seattle penalty upcoming, Oilers defenderVincent Desharnaisattempted to pass out from the corner, but there was nobody there. The puck hit the Edmonton’s post with Skinner pulled for an extra attacker.
Guess who’s back? back again? Turbo’s back, tell a friend!
The win was coach Jared Bednar’s 300th, coming in his 550th game. He is the franchise’s all-time winningest coach.
“As a coach, you want them all to get rewarded for their hard work,” said coach Jared Bednar, who earned his 300th win. “One way to get rewarded is me giving them more ice time, but the production is what they’re looking for and what you need in order to win hockey games. So guys
are feeling good about themselves, and it can carry over and give your team a little bit of confidence that you can get the job done under difficult circumstances.”
Brandon Tanevscored his first of the season for Seattle, making his return to action after suffering a lower body injury in the season opener at Vegas on Oct. 10. Joey Dacord finished with 26 saves.

Rantanen lifted Colorado into a 1-1 tie with 7:55 left in the second period. MacKinnon had a shot from the left circle that went off the side of the net. It bounced to Rantanen who swept it in for his 10th goal in 14 games. It is the second straight season Rantanen had tallied his 10th in
fewer than 15 games.
Joey Daccord makes Big-Time Save vs. Avalanche
Colton gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead with 5:48 left in the period when he was at the left post to poke in the rebound of Toews' shot that had bounced off the chest of Dacord. It was his fourth of the year.
“I think we did a great job of coming to the rink that next day (after Saturday’s 8-2 loss to St. Louis),” Colton said. “We had a talk and kind of just said, ’All right, we’ve got to flush it. This is unacceptable, took the slap on the wrist with video and then kind of learned from it.”
Makar made it 3-1 at 4:14 of the third with his fourth. Drouin’s goal at 9:09 was his first. Nichuskin’s with 3:17 left was his third.
“There were stretches of good hockey from our group, then there were times when we were not in the game and giving them too much time and space,” Tanev said. “When you give great players too much time and space, you make it look easy for them.”
Vince Dunnset up Tanev’s goal with a hard shot from the left circle. The puck rebounded to Tanev at the right post, and he shoveled it in at 6:13 of the first period.
Seattle thought it had taken a 2-0 lead on a short-handed goal byAlex Wennbergwith 5:19 left in the opening period. But the Avalanche challenged it, claiming goaltender interference, and the challenge was upheld.

SEATTLE -- —Zach Hymanscored three goals in the first period and theEdmonton Oilerssnapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over theSeattle Krakenon Saturday night.
Hyman finished the natural hat trick with 1:20 left in the first period when he came up with a loose puck in front of the net and hammered home his seventh goal of the season. It was Hyman’s first multi-goal game of the season and the second hat trick of his career.
Zach Hyman Notches Goal on the Power Play
Saturday Night Hockey Anyone?
“When things aren’t going well, you want to have a cushion and it makes everybody feel a little more comfortable,” Hyman said. “Today was a good day to get back in the win column and just breathe.”
It was the 10th time in Oilers franchise history that a player scored three goals in an opening period. Hyman became the second Oilers player with a natural hat trick in the first period, joining Wayne Gretzky who did it on Dec. 17, 1986.
“I have nothing but huge respect for Zach Hyman and the game he brings to the table every night,” Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. “He was bound and determined to make sure we were coming out with a lead in that first period.”
Jaden Schwartz enters tonight's matchup with the Oilers having tallied a point in Seattle's last eight games, which is tied for the third-longest active point streak in the NHL.
A goal or an assist tonight would give Schwartz a point in nine consecutive games for the first time in his career.
Jaden Schwartzscored a power-play goal for the Kraken with 17:36 left in the game. Schwartz has scored in four straight games and extended his career-best point streak to nine games.
“We weren’t desperate enough. We knew that they’re hungry for wins and we came out flat. We’ve done it a few times at home now,” Schwartz said. “Unacceptable. We’ve got to be way more aggressive, way more assertive and get to our game right away. We were too much standing
around and watching. It just all around wasn’t good enough.”

Seattle starting goaltenderPhilipp Grubauerwas pulled after allowing four goals on 17 shots in the first period.Joey Daccordcame on for the final two periods and had nine saves. The Kraken were held to a season-low 18 shots.
Hyman opened the scoring midway through the first period with a backhand over the shoulder of Grubauer, after taking a pass fromEvander Kaneon the rush.
He picked up his second on a power play with 5:51 left in the first, knocking in a loose rebound after a shot from the point.
“Obviously anytime you can capitalize on those chances it’s fun,” Hyman said. “There were a lot of good bounces in the first.”
The Oilers took a 4-0 lead going into the first intermission when Holloway scored with 17.9 seconds left. Ryan McLeod’s shot went wide and bounced off the boards right to Holloway next to the net.
“It was a hard game to win,” Skinner said. “It was hard fought, and that’s what it takes to win in the NHL. We’ve just got to keep on doing that, keep on doing the things that are going to make us successful.”
It's the latest go-ahead goal in regulation for a franchise in its third season, according to NHL research.

"We don't know about you, but we're Feelin' 22"
“Barely remember it,” Bjorkstrand said.
A quick recap: Bjorkstrand was down low and sent a backhanded pass toEeli Tolvanen, who was standing in front. Tolvanen's shot deflected off goaltenderIvan Prosvetovand to Bjorkstrand after he skated to the other side of the net. He lined it in for his sixth goal of the season.
There's just something about this building, against this team, that brings out the best in Bjorkstrand. He had two goals to lift Seattle by the Avalanche in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series last season.
“Nice to get the win," Bjorkstrand said. “That’s the most important.”
Jaden Schwartzand Matty Beniersalso scored to help the Kraken hand the Avalanche their first home loss in five games this season.
Bowen Byram, Nathan MacKinnonand Valeri Nichushkinscored for Colorado in the second of three meetings with the Kraken (the Avalanche won 4-1 last month in Seattle). Prosvetov had 19 saves in his third appearance for Colorado since being acquired on waivers.
Seattle threatened to run away, leading 2-0 and 3-1 in the second. The Avalanche tied it on Nichushkin’s tip-in goal with 7:45 remaining.
“As a whole, that’s the way I want our team to compete. We played hard,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. “We weren’t perfect, but you’re never going to be. We did a nice job.”
There was a scary moment midway through the second period when Colorado forwardArtturi Lehkonentook a bump from 6-foot-7, 257-pound defensemanJamie Oleksiakand slid head-first into the boards. Lehkonen was helped to the locker room and taken to the hospital for further
evaluation. The team said he was “alert, responsive and has full movement.”
Bednar didn't have an update after the game. He said he only had a quick look at the play but thought Lehkonen “got caught in a bad spot and ran into a big guy," Bednar explained.
Beniers gave Seattle a 3-1 lead midway through the second period with a power-play goal. It was his first score of the season. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's top rookie last season with 24 goals and 57 points.
“Felt good,” Beniers said. “Felt great.”

“I felt like we deserved a better outcome,” Makar said. “Compete-wise, I think we played to the best of our ability.”

Matias Maccelli, Barrett HaytonandClayton Kellerscored for the Coyotes, who converted twice on the power play and have won four of six home games at 5,000-seat Mullett Arena this season.
Bjugstad has delivered the deciding goal in both of Arizona's shootout wins this season.
“Sometimes you score and you just get confidence from it,” said Bjugstad, who has 17 shootout goals in his 13-year career. “I didn’t really expect coming into the league to be shooting. I had a lot of reps when I was a young player in Florida. That helps with the nerves."
Eeli Tolvanen, Jared McCannandJaden Schwartzscored for the Kraken, who have lost four of six overall. They've played five overtime games already this season, winning twice.
“It's a tight league,” defensemanJustin Schultzsaid. “Every game is a battle. I think we are doing a lot of good things, especially in overtime, this year. It's just not going in right now for us. It (stinks) not getting the two points, but learn from it."
Tolvanen scored in his second straight game, and McCann has scored in four of the last five.
Hayton scored his first goal of the season, and Maccelli extended his career-best point streak to nine games with his second goal during the run.
“I'm a competitor,” Hayton said. “I want to score. I want to produce, without a doubt. At the same time, you have to trust the process. Wanting to get off to a good start as a team, that personal stuff comes second. You want to focus on playing a complete game and having an impact on games."
Coyotes goalieConnor Ingram, who made 35 saves, stoppedMatty Benierson a breakaway with 1:06 remaining in regulation. Beniers, who won the Calder Trophy with 24 goals as a rookie last year, has not scored in 13 games this season.
Kraken goaltenderJoey Daccord, who had 25 saves, played at Arizona State when the school used a recreational rink 2 miles from campus before Mullett opened last season.
“We talk about even when you don’t have your A game, you need to find a way to crawl in,” Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. “You need to dig deep and find a way to win. I won’t pretend we played an excellent game, but we battled extremely hard and willingness to fight made the difference."
The Kraken scored on their first shot on goal 40 seconds into the game, after Tolvanen poked the puck loose along the center boards andJamie Oleksiakpicked it up to start a 2-on-0 break. Tolvanen andYanni Gourdeexchanged tap passes before Tolvanen hit an open side to beat a defenseless Ingram.
Maccelli tied it when he skated into the slot and beat Daccord with a wrist shot off the left post at 6:07 of the first period.
Keller cleared the puck off the goal line after McCann's shot midway through the second to keep the score even.
Hayton gave the Coyotes a 2-1 lead four minutes into the second period when he tipped in Keller's shot from the right circle for Arizona's 12th power-play goal of the season. Schultz answered less than a minute later with a wrist shot through traffic to make it 2-all.
Schwartz and Keller scored on power plays a minute apart early in the third. Schwartz hit a post but flipped in his own rebound at 1:16 before Keller scored from the right circle 42 seconds later to make it 3-3.

“You cannot underestimate an opponent in this league anymore,” Seattle’s Pierre-Édouard Bellemare said. “Doesn’t matter the situation of their organization or their season. If you don’t meet the desperation of a team, you’re going to be in trouble.”

NHL Player Casually Picks Up His Teeth from the Ice After Taking a Stick to the Face
Nashville Predators wingerGustav Nyquiston Thursday provided yet another example of hockey players possessing a different kind of toughness when he casually retrieved his teeth from the ice in the middle of a game.
During the Predators’ game against the Seattle Kraken, Nyquist found himself among a crowd hovering in front of the Kraken’s net. As everyone was fighting for the puck, Kraken defensemanAdam Larssonswung his stick a little too high and it connected squarely with Nyquist’s face.
Nyquist immediately dropped to his knees and put his hand over his mouth. Seconds later, he removed one of his gloves and began picking up the teeth that onto the ice.

Seattle Kraken vs. Tampa Bay Lightning: Full Highlights
Good feeling in Flo Rida
Someone, please tell the Seattle Kraken they don't get paid more for overtime.
Monday at Amalie Arena, Jared McCann scored on an OT power play to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-3. It marked the third overtime game during Seattle's four game road trip, and their second extra-time win.
With Tampa Bay’s Nick Paul in the penalty box for hooking, McCann converted a one-timer from the top of the left circle for his fifth goal of the season. The Kraken earned their first victory in five tries against the Lightning since entering the NHL in 2021.
Jared McCann Buries an OT Winner for the Kraken
″(The win) makes a six-hour plane ride a lot easier, for sure,” McCann said after the Kraken finished 2-1-1 on a four-game trip. “I thought we played awesome on this road trip, but it’s over now. We’ve got to focus on the next game.”
Brian Dumoulin’s first-period goal was his first as a member of the Kraken.
The goal gives him four points (two goals, two assists) in his last four games against the Lightning.
The Lightning trailed 3-1 after one period, butAlex Barre-Bouletgot them within one by scoring a power-play goal 3:40 into the second.Brandon Hageltied it with 5:32 remaining in the third.
“This game was lost in the first period,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “We played hard enough to get a point, but this is the NHL. If you spot a team three goals, you need four to win.”
Brandon Hagel Tallies Goal vs. Kraken
Brandon Hagel Scores on the Power Play for Lightning
The best scoring chance belongs shorthanded to Brandon Hagel, whose fancy moves free him for a close-in backhand which Grubauer denies.
Seattle's PK looks better killing an Alex Wennberg high-stick at 14:27. So despite a 15-13 Tampa shot advantage in the middle 20, the Kraken will take a lead into the third period.
Yamamoto set up Gourde’s goal at 13:08 of the opening period to give Seattle a 2-0 lead, and then scored a power-play goal at 15:52.
“I thought this was his best game,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said of Yamamoto, who matched his point total through the first nine games. “He had a ton of energy tonight. ... He was involved in every part of the game. He had the puck on a string, and he was making plays throughout
the entire game. It was nice to see him get rewarded with a power-play goal.”
Dumoulin had the first goal for the Kraken, who had been 0-4-0 against Tampa Bay since entering the NHL in 2021.
Alex Barre-Boulet Nets Power-Play Goal
Tanner Jeannotscored in the first and assisted on Barre-Boulet’s power-play goal for the Lightning, who finished 3-0-2 on a five-game homestand.Jonas Johansson, coming off back-to-back shutouts, finished with 40 saves.
“We did a good enough job in the last two periods to come back and get a point,” Hagel said. “I can’t really say we deserved to get the two points after the way we played in the first period, but we got the point. We’re going on the road, so we’ve got to take the point and move on.”
The Kraken ended Johansson’s shutout streak at 132:06 when Dumoulin banged home the rebound of Justin Schultz’s shot.
Gourde, a Stanley Cup winner with the Lightning in 2020 and 2021, made it 2-0 one minute later, beating Johansson with a wrist shot from the slot.
Before the game, coach Dave Hakstol said he wanted to see his team play with "swagger." Shots are a swagger-like 20-9 for Seattle.
Tampa Bay cut the deficit in half at 13:37 when Jeannot’s backhander beat Grubauer.

Tolvanen, standing near the paint, deflects Jaden Schwartz's long wrister at 7:38 for a 2-0 lead.
Just like Tuesday in Detroit and Thursday in Carolina, the Kraken can't maintain a two goal lead. Just 35 seconds after Jamie Oleksiak goes off for interference, Florida's Gustav Forsling scores on the PP at 8:53.
None of it would have been possible without Yanni Gourde's high-skill chip - in one motion, taking Will Borgen's clearing pass, and sending the puck on to McCann.
“I think we got a little harder on the puck,” Forsling said of Florida’s second-period surge. “We got it out when we needed to and we got a couple of lucky bounces. But I think we deserved it.”
McCann put the Kraken ahead with a breakaway goal 7:58 into the first period. Tolvanen added to the lead by deflectingJaden Schwartz's shot past Bobrovsky 7:34 into the second.
And then, it was time for Florida to do what it has so often in recent seasons — start a comeback.
Forsling, Tkachuk and Cousins were all goalless on the season entering Saturday, and picked the right night to change that for Florida. Forsling and Tkachuk got their goals 11 seconds apart to tie the game; Forsling's goal was on the power play, barely a minute after Schwartz gave

“Pretty happy with that game, especially the response,” coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “I think we got the two points we deserved.”
Oliver Bjorkstrandhad a goal and an assist andDevin Shorealso scored for the Kraken, who have yet to win consecutive games this season.Joey Daccord, who has recorded both of Seattle’s victories, made 42 saves.
He bemoaned the shots he didn’t stop, particularly the one from Kotkaniemi.
“Just disappointing I couldn’t make the save,” Daccord said. “It’s a frustrating loss being up late in the game.”
The Hurricanes, who were coming off a 2-4-0 road stretch, played in just their second home game.
“Obviously, it wasn’t the road trip we wanted,” Skjei said, noting the comeback was uplifting. “We’ve always had that confidence in this room. We never get too rattled when we’re down.”
Bjorkstrand scores goal against Hurricanes
Seattle was aiming to beat Carolina for the second time this season.
Necas had four overtime winners last season.
“That’s his time, for sure,” Brind’Amour said. “He loves that.”
Martin Necas tallies goal vs. Kraken
Kotkaniemi and Necas became the third and fourth Carolina players to reach the four-goal mark this season.
Andersen didn’t play in the past three games as he recovered from an injury and he wasn’t tested much during stretches.
Bjorkstrand has both of his goals this season against the Hurricanes. He scored first at 11:24 of the first period.
Shore’s first goal of the season came less than 3 1/2 minutes later when he skated in on Andersen and slid the puck under the goalie’s pads.
Necas got the Hurricanes on the board with 1:38 left in the first period after the Kraken mishandled the puck while trying to clear it from the zone.
The Hurricanes trailed 2-1 through two periods despite a 31-14 advantage in shots on goal. Daccord did his part.
“He helped us with his ability to play the pucks,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “They’re a shot-volume team.”

Detroit scored three power play goals to erase a 3-1 deficit in the third. Gostisbehere scored his third goal this season with a shot from the right circle. Eberle was in the penalty box for tripping Larkin.
AfterDevin Shorewas handed a double-minor for high sticking, Larkin tied it when he lifted a shot over Daccord’s stick.

After Larkin was called for hooking, McCann tied it on a wrist shot with 1:22 remaining in regulation.
“They’ve been rolling on their power play and they made good on them,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “To be able to push back — we’ve done it a couple of times now. We haven’t gotten rattled, we haven’t gone away after giving up a lead.”

“When you are down 3-1 going into the third period and you get a point out of it, you are going to take that,” he said. “Obviously, it would have been great to finish it off, but we did a good job of getting back into the game. If we don’t take the late penalties, we would have won it.”
Following a scoreless first period, the Kraken took a 3-1 lead in the second. Detroit struck first as Veleno scored on a redirect of aOlli Maattashot from the point.
WithJustin Hollin the penalty box for holding, Schwartz answered with a power play goal on a backhander from the slot. Schwartz then gave Seattle the lead with 2:06 left in the period.

Red Wings’ Dylan Larkin drops ‘disappointed’ take after botched comeback bid vs. Kraken
Story by Tristin McKinstry
TheDetroit Red Wingsentered their game on Tuesday absolutely red hot. They won five straight games following their season-opening game against theNew Jersey Devils. And in each of those games, they’d scored four goals or more. Alex DeBrincat formed an incredible duo with
captain Dylan Larkin, as well. Everything about this team looked good through the first six games.
However, the five-game winning streak is now over. TheSeattle Krakencame into town and skated away with a 5-4 overtime victory. Seattle held a 3-1 lead at the end of the second period, putting Detroit into a hole they hadn’t faced much so far this season.
The Red Wings came back to eventually take a 4-3 lead. Shayne Gostisbehere scored the first of three power play goals for Detroit in the third period. Larkin and DeBrincat scored the others as the Red Wings held the lead into the final minutes.
Unfortunately, the Red Wings let it slip. Larkin took a penalty with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The Kraken scored to force overtime, and scored the overtime winner with just five seconds left on the clock.
“I think we’re disappointed with losing like that,” Dylan Larkin saidafter the game, via Bally Sports Detroit. “Great to come back down 3-1 but we had two points there in our hands, and we let them slip.”
Many fans took to social media to express their frustrations with the call against Larkin late in the game. However, the Red Wings captain took the blame for the incident. “Say what you want. I put my stick in the guy’s midsection and gave the ref an opportunity to call it,” he said on Tuesday night.
The Red Wings hope to get back into the win column on Thursday. Detroit ends their three-game homestand against the Winnipeg Jets before hitting the road for two games against the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders.
Kraken dealt brutal Andre Burakovsky injury update
Story by Andrew Meyers
The Seattle Kraken have not gotten off to the finest of starts this season and they now find themselves down one of their top forwards for the foreseeable future. Andre Burakovsky suffered an upper-body injury on Saturday against the New York Rangers and subsequently required
surgery. He’ll be out forsix to eight weeksaccording to Frank Seravalli.
It’s a big blowfor the Kraken as Burakovsky is a solid goalscorer and one of Seattle’s best scoring options. Though he has yet to score a goal this season and has two points in six games, the winger averaged 18.5 goals a season over the last four seasons. He signed a five-year deal with
the Kraken in July 2022 after helping the Colorado Avalanche win the Stanley Cup. He was one of Seattle’s first splash signings.
Burakovsky made his NHL debut with the Washington Capitals in 2014, the same team that drafted him in the first round in 2013. He spent five seasons with them before landing with the Avalanche where he stayed for three seasons. He won a championship with both teams.
Burakovsky picked a great time to have a breakout season in 2021-22 as he notched carer-highs in games played, goals, assists and points in a contract year. He played in 49 games in his first season with the Kraken, recording 39 points on 13 goals and 26 assists.
The Kraken have one winin their first six games of the season after coming a win shy of the Western Conference Final last spring. Without Andre Burakovsky, their road back to a winning record got a lot more difficult.
Last week, Climate Pledge Arena became the first sports venue in the world to receive Zero-Carbon Certification, according to The Seattle Times. The Kraken received this certification through the International Future Living Institute (IFLI), a nonprofit organization.
“I’ve got like 19 (championship) rings someplace. This to me is one of the proudest things ever because this will last a lifetime,” Kraken owner Tim Leiweke told The Seattle Times. “This will last my daughter’s lifetime. And I think we’re going to get the rest of the industry to answer the
charge now.”
To obtain certification, Climate Pledge Arena had to adhere to strict requirements from the IFLI. These requirements included providing documentation that the arena has replaced fossil fuel usage with renewable energy. Climate Pledge has solar panels on the roof and parking garage to
supply electricity. The arena also receives clean power from Puget Sound Energy’s Lower Snake River wind farm, according to The Seattle Times.
Obtaining Zero-Carbon Certification usually takes five years. However, Climate Pledge pulled the feat off in only two. By 2025, the Kraken are on track to play in a venue entirely powered by self-produced solar and wind energy.
This news may not register on the radar of most sports fans, even local ones. That said, this is an incredible development and an amazing achievement on behalf of Kraken ownership. Let’s see if other sports venues, NHL or otherwise, follow in Seattle’s footsteps.
Kraken react to crushing Game 7 loss to Stars, ‘changing the landscape of hockey’ in Seattle
Story by Colin Gallant
TheSeattle Krakenwere the surprise of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, authoring a massive upset over theColorado Avalanchein Round 1 before losing a tight, 2-1 affair in Game 7 against theDallas Starson Monday night.
After getting within one win of the Western Conference Final in just their second year of existence, the team vowed to be back, per NHL.com’s Nicholas J. Cotsonika.
“I love this group. I think there’s something here,” forward Yanni Gourde said afterwards. “It’s the culture, and that’s what wins in the playoffs, is culture. It’s what you’re willing to do to win, and I think this group, we have it.”
The Kraken had an excellent 2022-23 campaign, nearly upsetting two top teams in the Avalanche and Stars after winning 46 games and reaching the 100-point plateau in just their second year.
“You get a taste of the postseason here as a group, and you win a series and almost win another one,” Jordan Eberle echoed. “I think you just grow…This is a tough league to win in. It’s a tough trophy to win. But I think we have a foundation as a group here, and you just want to keep building.”
Coach Dave Hakstol was proud of his group, and says the team greatly benefitted the city of Seattle.
“That’s a perspective that I want our players also to have — and it probably won’t register home tonight — but this group also changed the landscape of hockey in Seattle,” Hakstol explained. “This particular group had the guts to change the culture, the trajectory, the belief, of our franchise as well.”
Climate Pledge Arena was rocking not only in the playoffs but throughout the regular season, proving that the city was well-worthy of a National Hockey League team.
“I think the group got tighter and tighter together,” goaltender Phillip Grubauer said. “We play like a real team, and everybody’s playing for each other, and that’s what made it fun. We enjoyed those moments…That’s why we play.”
Expect the Seattle Kraken to be knocking on the door as one of the top teams in the Western Conference again next season.

New York Rangers vs. Seattle Kraken: Full Highlights
Tough one tonight - looking for a fresh start on the road Tuesday in Detroit
Kaapo Kakko and Alexis Lafrenierealso scored for the Rangers whileJonathan Quick, signed in the offseason as New York’s backup goalie, had 18 saves in his first start for the team.
“Everyone worked, and then we had luck on our side as well,” Panarin said. “Good bounces, good goals.”
Justin Schultzscored for the Kraken, who have scored one goal or fewer in four of their five games this season.Philipp Grubauerhad 23 saves.
The Rangers were coming off a 4-1 home loss against Nashville.
“We had a tough last game. We just had to bounce back and this was the best scenario for what could happen,” Chytil said. “It was a good game for us today.”
Schultz gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead with a one-timer from the left circle midway through the first period, his first goal of the season.
The Rangers tied it up less than four minutes later on Panarin’s first goal.
New York scored a pair in the second period to go up 3-1.
Artemi Panarin Nets his Second Goal in Rangers' Win
With about seven minutes left in the second, Grubauer wasn’t able to control a shot byJacob Troubaas the puck got past him into the crease, where Kakko was able to knock it into the net. LaFreniere scored his second goal of the season with two minutes left in the period.
“We didn’t execute very well,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We weren’t moving, and we didn’t have a lot of pace to our game. You saw that five on five, you saw that on our power play opportunities. The sharpness and crispness was not there.”
Panarin scored again 5 1/2 minutes into the third period, corralling a bouncing puck and firing it past Grubauer.
The game was delayed briefly right after the start as a bank of lights was out. As the game started, the Rangers defensive zone was noticeably dimmer than the rest of the ice.
The game was halted after about a minute of play, and after a wait of about 10 minutes the game resumed without the lights coming back on. The teams switched sides at the midway point of each period due to the lighting issue.
Players on both teams downplayed the effect of the lighting issue, although Panarin joked that he sabotaged the lights. “For me, I want it darker so it’s harder for goalies. That’s why I scored two,” he said.
Kraken FAndre Burakovskyleft the game early in the second period after being pushed into the boards by Trouba. Burakovsky got up gingerly after the hit and did not return. Hakstol said he would wait until Sunday to determine Burakovsky’s status.
“I don’t think it’s going to be something that’s real short term,” Hakstol said.
This was the first game of a five-game road trip for the Rangers, their longest of the season. “Five games on the road is a long time,” Kakko said. “First win feels good.”
Injury update:
Postgame
Late fisticuffs notwithstanding, the Kraken offense was as low-wattage as the Climate Pledge Arena lighting.
The Rangers outshot the Kraken for the game, 27-19, and won 58% of faceoffs. The Kraken now hit the road for four games, starting Tuesday in Detroit.
Yanni Gourde, Jaden SchwartzandPierre-Edouard Bellemarescored in a three-goal first period for the Kraken. But after going winless in its first four games and earning only one point in the standings, Seattle rediscovered what led to 100 points last season — a lot of contributions
throughout the lineup.
Seattle's seven goals came from seven players and 13 picked up at least a point. The sluggish start was based around a lack of scoring as the Kraken managed just three goals through the first four games.
But they felt they were on the cusp of a breakout and it finally arrived.
“It's our depth. It's tough to play against that,” Seattle'sJared McCannsaid. “We have to use that to our advantage.”
McCann andTye Kartyescored 21 seconds apart midway through the third after Carolina pulled to 4-3, and Bjorkstrand added an empty-netter with 3:09 left.
Tye Kartye’s third-period goal was the first regular-season goal of his NHL career. Congrats, Tye!
Gourde’s first of the season came at 7:16 as he redirected Andre Burakovsky’s shot. Schwartz scored his second of the season just six seconds into Seattle’s power play at 12:18, and Bellemare scored short-handed with 38 seconds left in the first period off the rebound from Dunn’s shot.
Dunn’s scored on the power play 2:38 into the second and Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour pulled starting goalieAntti Raantaafter he gave up four goals on 18 shots.
“I think it’s evident our success comes from everyone doing their part and playing as a five-man unit out there,” Dunn said.
Pyotr Kochetkov, recalled Wednesday, made 14 saves after taking over for Raanta. The Hurricanes were without starting goalieFrederik Andersenafter he left Tuesday’s win over San Jose in the first period after taking a shot off his mask.
Carolina scored four goals in the third period of that win over San Jose on Tuesday and the Hurricanes tried to post another third-period rally.Jesperi Kotkaniemiscored at 5:54 to pull the Hurricanes to 4-3 and Seth Jarvis’ second goal of the period on the power play at 15:54 pulled
Carolina to 6-4. But that's where the comeback ended.

“We always think there's a chance no matter what. We think we have a team that can score in bunches. Like I said before, it's a matter of keeping it out of our net right now,” Jarvis said.
Seattle goalieJoey Daccordwas very good through two periods before running into trouble in the third. Daccord made 29 saves through the first two periods, the only goal coming whenJesper Fastscored for Carolina 19 seconds after Gourde’s goal. Daccord finished with 33 saves.
“The real key is he made good saves at the right time,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “He shows the confidence to overcome a goal going in the net. He moves on to the next one.”
Andre Burakovsky’s assist on Vince Dunn’s goal was the 200th assist of his NHL career. Congrats, Andre!

SEATTLE -- — All that was missing from the busy night for Colorado'sLogan O'Connor's was an assist. He got the fight out the way almost immediately before adding what proved to be the deciding goal.
“I feel like he plays like that all the time. He's going to play as hard as he can, use his skating to his advantage,” Colorado coach Jared Bednar said. “He's willing to do all the little things it takes to have success.”
O'Connor and Arttui Lehkonen scored their first goals of the season in the second period,Mikko Rantanenscored his third with 6:15 remaining and the Avalanche beat theSeattle Kraken4-1 on Tuesday night.
The Avalanche ruined Seattle’s home opener and matched an NHL record for the longest regular-season road winning streak spanning multiple seasons. Colorado won its 14th straight away from home dating to last season, matching the mark set by Buffalo during the 2005-06 and 2006-
07 seasons.
Kailer Yamamoto tallies goal to put the Kraken on the board
Colorado goalieAlexandar Georgievmade 37 saves and turned away nearly every dangerous chance.
“They were probably the better team tonight but (Georgiev) was huge back there, penalty kill was big,” O'Connor said. “He's the best penalty killer out there.”
The first meeting since Game 7 of last season’s Western Conference first-round matchup won by Seattle got off to a heated start with O’Connor andJordan Eberledropping the gloves inside the first 90 seconds. It was just the third fight of Eberle’s career and first since 2019.
The fight was in response to Eberle's hit onAndrew Coglianoin Game 6 of the playoff matchup. Cogliano suffered a neck fracture as a result of the hit.
“We obviously go back to the series last year. It was a tough series, tough situation,” Eberle said. "I was just trying to get my teammates going.”
Colorado'sCale Makarwas greeted with hearty boos every time he touched the puck, the result of his hit onJared McCannin Game 4 of the playoff series that drew a one-game suspension and sidelined McCann for the rest of the series.
“There's definitely a lot of animosity, I think," O'Connor said. "We feel as though we didn't give our best effort in that series last year. They played us hard. You have got to give them credit.”
Lehkonen scored at 3:50 of the second period after the puck deflected his way and Seattle goaliePhilipp Grubauerwas caught out of position. O’Connor’s goal was short-handed at 11:50 when Makar’s clearance hopped over the stick ofVince Dunnat the blue line and sent O’Connor free
on a breakaway.
Artturi Lehkonen brings the Avalanche level vs. Kraken
Grubauer made 23 saves and kept it a one-goal margin with some key stops before Rantanen scored his third of the season.
Valeri Nichushkinscored an empty-net goal with 3:14 left. Nichushkin missed the final five postseason games of the first-round loss to Seattle for what the team called “personal reasons.”
Kailer Yamamotoscored at 15:09 of the first period to give Seattle the lead, his first goal as the first player from Washington state to play for the Kraken. But the rest of Seattle’s home opener was filled with missed opportunities and the Kraken remained winless through four games for
the first time in their three seasons.
Logan O'Connor fires home a fast-break goal
Seattle outshot and outhit the Avalanche but couldn't capitalize on the power play going 0 for 4 and is 1 for 11 on the season.
“We lacked execution in a few spots tonight and against a good team that leaves us on the wrong side of the ledger,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said.
Avalanche go up 3-1 on Mikko Rantanen's goal
Game notes
Makar picked up his 250th career point with the assist on O'Connor's goal. O'Connor's goal was the first short-handed score of the season for Colorado and the second allowed by Seattle. ... Seattle assistant coach Dave Lowry took a puck off the top of his head during the second period
and had to go back into the locker room for treatment. He returned to the bench in the third period. ... Seattle has killed 13 straight plays to begin the season.

LAS VEGAS – Some nights in the National Hockey League are simply better to be quickly forgotten and forgiven by fans, even if Tuesday’s 4-1 loss at Vegas was the season opener and a nationally-televised divisional showdown. But Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol will review the tape and determine ways to improve
and make adjustments before his squad takes the ice in Nashville for Game 2 of the new season Thursday.
“There’s no way we’re going to let it go,” said Hakstol post-game. “We left something on the table today. I’m not disappointed with the overall effort. I think some individuals can have a better night. We’ve got to take some things out of this, improve on them and get right back at it in two nights.”
“It’s good to have live games, full games that you can go back as a group collectively see the way we want to play, find the good, find the negative and learn from it,” said alternate captain Jordan Eberle. “That’s how you become a better team.”
Important number there, Game 2. That means there are 81 games to reverse the sourness here in Vegas, where the 2023 Stanley Cup banner was raised to the rafters before the game amid noise and pomp and an extended 15-some minutes between warmups and puck drop. There will be better outcomes and
sweeter moments in the hockey months ahead.

are we feeling lucky?
On the Plus Side ...
Before reviewing some of the dread, let’s cover some positives: After going down 3-0 early in the second period, Seattle’s Yanni Gourde line and top defensive pair Adam Larsson and Vince Dunn circled up during the first TV timeout of the second frame appearing to vow to reverse the game momentum starting with a
strong shift. Veteran moves unfolded.
On the next shift, Matty Beniers jumped straight up off his skates to keep a popped-up puck in the Vegas zone. Jordan Eberle, who earlier in period was flattened netfront by young VGK winger Paul Cotter, was back in the hard area in and around the net finding a way to move the puck to linemate Jared McCann, who
muscled a quick-release shot past Adin Hill to score the Kraken’s first goal of the season. The second period ended 3-1 with the night not lights-out lost after 40 minutes.
Jared McCann with a Goal vs. Vegas Golden Knights
Another positive: The Kraken penalty killers posted a clean sheet, shutting down potent VGK power play units twice, one each in the first two periods of play. Meanwhile, after Vegas outchanced the visitors 8 to 4 in Grade-A scoring opportunities during the first period, Seattle rebounded with five high-dangers chances
compared to three for Vegas, per Natural Stat Trick.
Power Outage, Late-Game Missed Opportunity
Seattle managed four shots in six minutes of power play time in the first 40 minutes, not a ratio that will satisfy Dave Hakstol’s goal to do better than 21st in the NHL last season, an intention the Kraken coach has mentioned often when asked about power play work in the preseason. The Kraken did generate six shots
on a five-minute power play in the final but VGK goalie Adin Hill made the saves when needed.
Ultimately, we didn't capitalize when we had the good opportunities, whether it be five on five or on the power play,” said Hakstol. “The positive is we generated some of those opportunities. The flip side of it is they generated chances as well. They're a good team in terms of transition and off the rush and we saw that
on their first goal. We made a mistake and that was their first opportunity.”
The Kraken power play got the chance to redeem matters with a five-minute major called on Vegas’ illegal hit to the head on Brandon Tanev, who also appeared to have a knee twisted as he fell to the ice. Jordan Eberle had a close-in chance early in the five minutes but Adin Hill shut it down and his shot blockers
stemmed all attempts. One PK standout for Vegas on the evening: Nicholas Roy, who was originally drafted by Ron Francis when he was GM in Carolina.
“The big one is the power play,” said Eberle when discussing how the game could have turned in the Kraken’s favor after early aggressive play from Seattle. “We’ve got to find a way to get a timely goal there, to find a way to get us back. We had lots of chances."
“The power play, especially early in the year, is such a huge thing. Last year we had it going early and it carried us. This group is more than capable, we have a lot of skill. This group we can find a way to do it.”
First Shot and First Period Woes
After the Kraken took the first five shots on goal in Tuesday’s season opener during the game’s first seven minutes, including a tantalizing open look for Andre Burakovsky stopped by Vegas goalie Adin Hill, the home squad’s second line worked a tic-tac-toe play to beat Philipp Grubauer. On literally a banner night for
Vegas, the crowd boomed yet again as captain Mark Stone worked the puck to linemate Brett Howden, who zipped a spot-on pass to center Chandler Stephenson’s stick blade and past a sprawling Grubauer while sliding right to left.
It needs to be quickly added that Grubauer proceeded to make several saves on threatening shots and scoring chances to keep his teammates in this 2023-24 opener and its two standings points still in reach. Prime example: Grubauer turned away a Grade-A scoring chance by the aforementioned Stephenson just
outside the crease at the 11-minute mark just after the Kraken had come up empty on a second early-game power play.
But with five minutes left and fourth-liner Brandon Tanev appearing to have intercepted a VGK centering pass in the Seattle end and primed to clear it, he bladed the puck back toward the end boards and last spring’s Vegas playoff MVP Jonathan Marchessault smartly and successfully poke-checked the puck to tip it
past an understandably unsuspecting Grubauer. Two-nothing bad guys and a lead not surrendered on the night.
To his credit, Grubauer maintained his trademark calm presence to make one more monster save among 10 VGK shots on goal in the first period. He smothered a point-blank netfront shot by Michael Amadio with two minutes in the opening frame.
Third-Period Troubling for Tanev
Not the best of outings for fan favorite Brandon Tanev. Beyond the own goal of sorts in the first period, Tanev suffered a flush-on head hit in which a knee also appeared to twist. Tanev immediately left the ice for the Kraken locker room. There was no immediate update on his condition. Check back on the Kraken app
and website for updates. Vegas forward Brett Howden was whistled for a five-minute major for an illegal hit to the head but the Kraken could not convert on the power play. Vegas center Jack Eichel sealed this matchup with a late goal.

Kraken coach Dave Hakstol dishes on major Shane Wright decision ahead of season opener vs. Golden Knights
Story by Tristin McKinstry
The Seattle Kraken open their season Tuesday night in Las Vegas. They will take on the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights as they raise their championship banner. However, Seattle will play this game without 2022 fourth-overall pick Shane Wright.
The Kraken sent Wright down to the American Hockey League, the team confirmed on Saturday. It’s a small surprise considering that the 19-year-old had a rather strong training camp. But, at the end of the day, Seattle felt this was necessary for Wright’s long-term development.
“We had a real clear, plain discussion in terms of the areas that we want to see him focus on and that the coaches and development staff will be focusing on with him in the American Hockey League,” coach Dave Hakstol said, via The Seattle Times.
Usually, teenagers like Wright are ineligible for the AHL. However, the Kraken received special permission to avoid sending him back to junior hockey. Yet, this is not Wright’s first time in the NHL’s top minor league. The Kraken utilized a loophole to allow the 19-year-old to play a few weeks for the Coachella Valley
Firebirds last season.
Wright played eight games in the NHL with Seattle last season. However, he struggled during those games. In fact, he scored just one goal while adding one assist during that span. He finished the season in the Ontario Hockey League. The 19-year-old scored 37 points in 20 games for the Windsor Spitfires following
a trade from the Kingston Frontenacs.
Overall, Seattle is more than happy with what they saw from Wright during camp. It all came down to his role. Would a small, limited role in the NHL be more beneficial for the former fourth-overall pick than a larger AHL role? The Kraken ultimately decided the AHL was the better route to go.
“It’s good we have the ability to get him to Coachella Valley. He’ll go down there and play significant minutes and we felt that was the best for his development, Kraken general manager Ron Francis said, via The Seattle Times.
