Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James went on a rant about college basketball on the "Mind the Game" podcast with co-host JJ Redick and explained why it gave him "anxiety" to watch his son Bronny James play at USC this season.
"The NBA is the best league in the world," James said. "That's why it's hard to watch my son play college basketball. ... It is hard watching a 40 minute college basketball game. It's hard. I get more anxiety and I sweat more watching college basketball, especially my son now, than I've
ever done in my life."
Later in the episode, James explained why the college game is becoming increasingly harder to watch in his eyes.
"I've never understood why a coach will throw the ball into the post with his big with no business with the ball in the post," James said. "The only time the ball should go into the post with the big is if he, automatically, as soon as he catches it, flattens the defense and he goes right back
into a DHO uphill, roll – if he's not a pocket passer you can't throw it low, throw it to the rim – or it's his job is to just shrink the defense cause his role is so dynamic. I watch college games and I see guys throw the ball in the post to guys and they'll turn around and shoot a jump shot or
a running left handed jump hook."
The younger James played in 25 games during the 2023-24 season after missing the first eight games of his college career due to a scary health incident that saw him go into cardiac arrest during a summer workout. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes
per game.
With USC's season officially over, James will have a decision to make about the 2024 NBA Draft. The 19-year-old could declare for this summer's draft where his draft stock is expected to be unpredictable or return for the 2024-25 season to help lead USC into its transition as a Big Ten
program.
"It's up to him," LeBron said on Bronny's draft status during NBA All-Star Game Weekend last month. "It's up to the kid. Obviously, we gonna go through the whole process. He's still in season now, has the Pac-12 tournament coming up. ... We gonna weigh our options, and we gonna let
After the Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Cat’ retro was announced alongside a ‘Black Cat’ version of the Air Jordan 3, there have been recent confirmations that an Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Cat’ colorway will be on the schedule. Gracing the Jordan 5 silhouette for the first time, expect this to be another
classic release for sneakerheads. Check out our Sneakers news for more upcoming releases and breaking content!
Michael Jordan went by countless nicknames during his playing days and the ‘Black Cat’ moniker was derived from his intimidation and unmatched agility, much like a puma or panther. Jordan loved the alter ego so much that his Air Jordan 13 was actually modeled after a jungle cat’s paw
laying flat on the ground. After his playing days, Jordan Brand payed homage to the nickname with a release that still gets attention to this day.
The Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Cat’ first released in 2006 and started a trend among future all-black Jordan sneakers. They retroed in limited fashion back in 2020 and have even been rumored for another upcoming release in 2024. The Air Jordan 5 silhouette will feature a similar style, fitted
with all-black suede throughout the whole shoe. While official images have yet to be released, check out some of the speculative mockups featured on social media.
The Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Cat’ seems to don an all-black suede or nubuck throughout the whole uppers. The eyelets, midsole, tongue, and laces are all black while the icy translucent outsole seems to have a smoky tint to it. The iconic “shark teeth” along the midsole received an all-black
treatment as well. The Jordan logos are also blacked-out with the same smoky tint added through the rubber panels in the midsole.
Once again, these are just speculations as to how the shoes may look, but they should give us a solid idea given the general simplicity of the ‘Black Cat’ colorway. Previous releases of the Air Jordan 4 have featured premium nubuck along the uppers, so we can expect much of the same
throughout this edition.
With how limited previous releases have been, expect this release to be similar in nature. The popularity and scarcity of the ‘Black Cat’ colorway has grown over recent years, so we should expect to see these shoes sell-out rather quickly. Make sure to set your alarms on release day to
avoid missing out on these.
The Air Jordan 5 ‘Black Cat’ is scheduled to release December 7, 2024 and will be made available on Nike and Nike SNKRS App. They will also drop in select Jordan retailers and will be available in men’s ($210), grade school ($160), preschool ($100), and toddler ($85) sizing. Don’t
hesitate to get the whole family laced-up with this hot release!
"A best friend to take the fall" - Michael Kay makes light work of Shohei Ohtani & Ippei Mizuhara situation with Pete Rose comparison
Shohei Ohtani's former interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, is being investigated by MLB and the IRS for alleged gambling. Last Wednesday, the news of the scandal broke when Ohtani was preparing for his highly anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers in South Korea, with Mizuhara
attending the tour as his interpreter.
Soon after the Dodgers front office became aware of the news, they fired Mizuhara. Ohtani hasn't made any comments on the matter, though.
Amid the investigation, Yes Network's host and New York Yankees play-by-play announcer Michael Kay linked Ohtani's alleged case with the notorious betting scandal of former Cincinnati player/manager Pete Rose in a humorous joke.
"Somebody came up to me in the Yankees clubhouse today and said, 'You know what, Pete Rose was missing?' And I said, 'What, a best friend to take the fall?" said Kay.
Rose's situation wasn't too different from Shohei Ohtani's case. Rose got a lifetime ban for gambling on baseball (on Cincinnati Reds) in 1989. So far, ESPN reported two sides of the story.
In the first one, Mizuhara told ESPN in an interview that he went to Ohtani for help after his debt rose to $4.5 million. Ohtani paid the amount from his personal bank account in eight to nine installments.
However, the story changed when a spokesperson on behalf of Ohtani told ESPN that Shohei Ohtani didn't have any recollection of such events shared by Mizuhara. Later, in an official statement by Ohtani's lawyer at Brek Brettler LLP, Mizuhara was accused of stealing money. He
confessed to ESPN about his lies in his previous interview but restrained from commenting further.
Shohei Ohtani could face a similar punishment as Pete Rose
After retiring from his stellar baseball career, Pete Rose remained in MLB as the Reds manager for six seasons. According to Bleacher Report, Rose's gambling habit was no secret.
But it took a serious turn when in May 1989, John Dowd reported to then-MLB commissioner Bart Giamatti a detailed breakdown of Rose's betting activity, which included 52 bets on Reds games.
In August of that year, he accepted a lifetime ban from the League. As a result, he was also prohibited from being inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Rose tried to lift the ban, but both Rob Manfred and his predecessor, Bud Selig, denied his plea.
"I never bet on baseball," Mizuhara told ESPN, according to the Associated Press. "That's 100%. I knew that rule ... We have a meeting about that in spring training."
It is still not clear whether Mizuhara gambled on baseball and Shohei Ohtani's involvement in the scandal. The investigation is ongoing with no further information yet.
Led by Anton Watson's 21 points, fifth-seeded Gonzaga was nearly as good over the second half of this game as it has been over the second half of the season. The Zags scored 15 straight points early in the half to turn this one into a runaway on an afternoon when basically everyone in
a navy jersey was a star.
‘It’s incredible’: What Mark Few said about Gonzaga’s 9th-straight Sweet 16 appearance
“I couldn’t be more proud,” head coach Mark Few said after his squad pummeled Kansas 89-68 Saturday afternoon. “As I told them in the locker room, it’s incredible. Nine straight Sweet 16s. What these guys have been able to do, especially in lieu of where we were earlier in the year,
but all the ones that came before them that set this thing up, it’s a testament to all the great players that came through this program.”
They improved to 16-2 since Jan. 18, with the only two losses coming to Saint Mary’s, the team that beat Gonzaga for the West Coast Conference title but was dismissed from the tournament Friday night.
“Late December, it was looking like maybe it wasn't going to happen," said Mark Few, his hair still damp from the dousing he received in the postgame locker room. "But I'll give credit. These guys stayed coachable. We figured it out."
Once Few dries off, he and the Zags, who are in their 25th straight NCAA Tournament, will load up for their routine trip to the second weekend to play the winner of Sunday’s game between Purdue and Utah State.
The Zags (27-7) made their first five 3-pointers of the second half, not missing from long range until 1:30 remained and the game had long entered extended garbage time. They shot 60% from the floor and 53% from 3. Ben Gregg still managed to stand out — he went 6 for 6 and
finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Big man Graham Ike also had 15 and nine, going toe to toe with KU’s Hunter Dickinson, who finished with a quiet 15 points.
Making all the Bulldogs look good was Ryan Nembhard, who blew off a rough shooting night (1 for 6) and finished with 12 assists to become the program's career leader in that category.
“Ryan’s been at the highest level for the last eight weeks,” Few said. “He's just got our throttle all the way down and he's making great decisions.”
IT'S A 15-0 RUN FROM GONZAGA
Kansas was gassed, facing an early start after an emotional, close victory over Samford late Thursday night. Coach Bill Self said he knew he was in trouble when he turned to his bench partway through the game, looking to make a substitution.
“There's not many times where you take a guy out, he's sitting through a three-minute timeout, I say, ‘Can you go back in?’ and he says ‘I need more time,’” Self said.
The tired legs played into a painfully familiar scene for fans of the fourth-seeded Jayhawks (23-11). They have struggled with depth, shooting, consistency and injuries; leading scorer Kevin McCullar Jr. (knee) was out for the tournament. During Gonzaga’s 15-0 run, the Jayhawks missed
10 straight shots.
EVERYTHING IS GOING IN GONZAGA HAS BLOWN THIS GAME WIDE OPEN! #MarchMadness@ZagMBB
Gonzaga eventually extended the run to 32-4; Kansas shot 2 for 23 during that stretch.
“It’s a formula for disaster when you can’t make shots and you can’t stop them,” said Kansas forward KJ Adams Jr., who finished with 10 points.
A few of those misses looked strangely ugly, including when Dickinson, who missed the Big 12 Tournament with a dislocated shoulder, grabbed a rebound under the bucket and looked poised for an easy bucket but could barely get the ball to the rim.
“Hunt gave us everything he had,” Self said. “But that was one tired dude out there today.”
For 22 minutes, at least, this game lived up to its billing — a rare showdown between much-adored power programs. There were eight lead changes. At one point late in the first half, the teams combined to make nine straight shots from the field, trading leads almost every time down.
Gonzaga kept it going. Kansas simply couldn't.
The Zags won both their games in Salt Lake City by 21. The opener against McNeese might have been expected. That the second one was such a breeze, even against a flawed KU team, was a surprise. Nothing else about this team playing deep into March should be that shocking.
“We’ve just always impressed upon them, if we get in this thing, we know how to win in this thing,” Few said. “This is not a new thing for our program.”
ON THE SIDELINE
Lamar Simpson, the official who called the phantom foul that helped KU lock up its opening-night win over Samford, watched both games from press row as the alternate official.
HOME AWAY FROM HOME
The Zags improved to 10-3 lifetime in tournament games in Salt Lake City. Their next stop is Detroit, where they have never played a tournament game.

Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama enters Kareem Abdul-Jabbar territory with crazy stat line
Story by Jay Postrado
Victor Wembanyama being a rare breed is an understatement. Gregg Popovich’s mentee in the San Antonio Spurs system entered the league as a contender for the Defensive Player of the Year award while also racking up big numbers on offense. He once again unleashed the alien inside
against the Brooklyn Nets. His outing even notched him a stat line that only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar achieved in league history.
The Spurs rookie and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are the only players ever to record at least 33 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists, and seven blocks, per Chris Palmer. Not only did Victor Wembanyama put up such an insane block party and produce big numbers on offense, but he is also the
youngest player to have ever achieved this feat. To put into perspective, the Los Angeles Lakers legend was 28 years old and at the peak of his powers when got those numbers. Wemby is still just 20.
Coach Gregg Popovich allowed the Spurs sensation to play 36 minutes in this game. The head honcho did not at all regret his decision. Wemby sank 14 out of his 26 shots from the field. His shots at the free throw line then found the bottom of the net in four of his six attempts. Moreover,
his 15 boards made up 30% of the total rebounds that the Spurs recorded.
The more impressive part of this 122 to 115 overtime win for the Spurs was Wemby’s defensive versatility. Only Nicolas Claxton and Day’Ron Sharpe were the true big men in the Nets roster. This meant the Wemby was drawn out of the paint a couple of times to defend guards and wings
who are supposed to be quicker than him. He thrived in this game and was able to switch on to whoever had the ball or needed help.
Wemby is now averaging 20.8 points on a very efficient 46.7% field goal percentage from all three levels of scoring. His 10.4 rebounds along with 3.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game on limited minutes make him a generational rookie. Hopefully, the Spurs can turn these big averages into
wins in the coming seasons. They would not want his youth and Popovich’s remaining time with the Spurs to go to waste.

Bronny James’ 2024 NBA draft plans get sobering reality check from NBA executive
Story by Gerard Angelo Samillano
How will Bronny James pan out? That’s a question that many NBA enthusiasts want answered. The son of NBA legend LeBron James is one of the most fascinating prospects in recent memory. Between the hype of being LeBron’s son and the expectations upon him, fans are wondering
what he will do.
Well, Bronny James hasn’t declared for the 2024 NBA Draft yet. Some sites have him mocked well in their draft boards (late first-rounder at best). However, for one NBA executive, Bronny ismuch better off going back to collegeto improve his draft stock, per Jeremy Woo of ESPN.
“We would recommend Bronny go back to college,” an NBA team executive told Jeremy Woo of ESPN. “I’ll be honest, we didn’t have huge expectations for [Bronny] heading into the season. I know some mocks had him as a top-20 pick, but our group didn’t view him as a player of that
caliber.
The same executive’s comments on Bronny James’ profile doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence, either.
“I don’t know exactly what his (Bronny James) role is going to be, and I think it’s hard to project him in a half-court setting. He doesn’t have great separation off the bounce, he’s not a really good perimeter shooter, so it’s going to be tough to unlock some of the creation, because I don’t
think teams are going to get up on him defensively. They’ll probably allow him some space [until he proves it].
Woof. The discourse leading up to Bronny James and the 2024 NBA draft will be fascinating to watch.
A beautiful ball here from Penix, and Odunze does well finding it and using a little arm bar to separate from the DB open up the space to haul this in.
What did Seattle Sports host@BrockHuard think about the Seattle#Seahawks trade for QB Sam Howell? What impact will he have on this roster? Can he beat out QB Geno Smith for the starting role in Seattle. Brock Huard gives his quick thoughts on the move here.
Sam Howell is not a bad QB option for the Seahawks. Whether it's as a solid backup, or competing with Geno Smith. Basically a 4,000 yards last year. 21 TDs 21 INTs. If that interception was down, there would be a MAJOR difference in opinions.
Russell Wilson was on the I Am Athlete podcast and opened up about his benching in Denver and the behind the scenes around his contract situation.
Sam Howell trade grades for Seahawks-Commanders deal
Story by Alex House
Although the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commandersfinished far apart in the NFC standings, both teams entered the offseason with plenty of work to do after failing to reach the postseason. Another common denominator among the franchises is an uncertain long-term
quarterback situation. They made some steps toward potentially ironing out their respective future plans with a trade revolving around QB Sam Howell.
The deal includes pick swapsfrom the upcoming NFL Draft, with the Seahawks sending a third-round selection (No. 78) and a fifth-rounder (152) to the Commanders for Howell, a fourth (102) and sixth-rounder (179). Seattle needed to add another quarterback to its roster after Drew
Lock signed with the New York Giants in free agency, but fans had another name in mind.
This move eliminates another possible landing spot for Chicago Bears signal-caller Justin Fields, who isquickly running out of opportunitiesto be a starter in 2024. The Seahawks clearly value the collective affordability and upside of Howell a bit more than the former Ohio State star. He
will slot in at No. 2 behind Geno Smith but could realistically climb the depth chart in the next couple of years.
From Washington’s standpoint, the organization is clearing the way for whom it hopes is the face of the franchise for a decade-plus. The No. 2 overall pick in this year’s draft will not have to worry about another young QB competing with him in training camp, as new acquisition Marcus
Mariotawill be expected to serve more of a mentor/transitional role.
Simply put, both the Seahawks and Commanders had reason to come together for a transaction. But did they do as well as they could have? We will take a closer look at the Sam Howelltrade and stamp a grade on each team.
Seattle general manager John Schneider knew he would have to address his quarterback situation going into the offseason, unless of course, he decided to bring back Drew Lock. While Geno Smith faces little oppositionfor the starting job at this current moment, his inconsistencies and
injury issues from last year mean that having a solid backup is essential.
A guy who led the NFL in passing yards well past the halfway point of the 2023-24 campaign seems to fit that bill. Howell threw for 3,946 passing yards and 21 touchdowns despite Washington finishing near the bottom of the conference with a 4-13 record. The good was balanced out by
the bad, though, as he committed a league-worst 23 turnovers (21 interceptions) and completed only 63.4 percent of his pass attempts.
The natural response to those negative aspects of his game is to point out how poorly the Commanders’ offensive line performed last season. And that is definitely a valid argument to make given that the 2022 fifth-round pick was sacked a staggering 65 times (most in league). But those
problems might just carry over onto his new home.
The Seahawks actually had a worse O-Line than the Commanders, according to Pro Football Focus’end-of-year rankings and has yet to upgrade the unit this offseason. They boast a wealth of wide receiver talent, but neither Smith nor Howell will be able to take advantage of it with such
minimal protection.
Schneider can mitigate concerns by having a successful showing in April’s draft. If the trenches are eventually solidified, Sam Howell should be given a fair chance to become a viable quarterback. Parting with a third-round selection (still have another) for a 23-year-old who has some
promise could be a huge steal.
Seahawks Grade: A-
Commanders’ trade grade
While Seattle is gambling on the possibility of Howell becoming a part of its big-picture plans, Washington is looking to build around his replacement. Maximizing return value by acquiring the No. 78 pick could give either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels a valuable contributor to lean on
going forward.
With other veteran quarterbacks available, it was plausible to think that the trade market for Howell could shrink into oblivion. But his ability to nearly reach 4,000 passing yards without a high-end support system was enough to reel in the Seahawks. That is not to call John Schneider a
sucker. The Seahawks are taking a calculated risk.
Though, the Commanders should be thrilled to turn a Day 3 draft pick into a Day 2 one. They can snag a starter or key depth piece by deciding to move on from their now-backup QB. New general manager Adam Peters is exhibiting good business sense and quietly positioning the teamin
an interesting spot for the next few years.
Obviously, all the praise he is receiving right now will vanish if Sam Howell turns into a franchise pillar with Seattle and Washington’s incoming rookie proves to be a bust. But since we won’t be able to make those determinations for a while, fans should be pleased by this outcome.
Honestly, supporters of both the Seahawks and Commanders are justified in feeling optimistic following this Thursday afternoon exchange. For now, I am declaring this a win-win that brings clarity to each franchise. It is not a tie, however, as one trade report card edges out the other.

Riq Woolen’s ringing endorsement of Tyrel Dodson signing will get Seahawks fans hyped

BREAKING:Free agent LB Tyrel Dodson is signing with the#Seahawks, source tells @BleacherReport. Dodson, 25, comes off a career-best season with the #Bills, recording 8 TFLs, 2 PBUs and 2.5 sacks.
Dodson entered the league in 2019 as a free agent after going undrafted out of Texas A&M. He experienced his first regular-season minutes during September of 2020 and has mostly been a rotational player until his breakthrough year in 2023.
The linebacker ended up starting a total of 10 regular season games last year, following a season-ending injury to former Pro Bowler Matt Milano. Dodson tallied regular-season totals of 74 combined tackles (57 solo, 17 assisted), 2.5 sacks, two passes defended, a forced fumble and a
fumble recovery in 17 outings played. He added 8 combined tackles (7 solo) for the Bills. Dodson was also ranked as Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded linebackerfor 2023.
The 6-foot, 237-pound LB is one of several expected linebacker signings for the Seahawks in the aftermath of Bobby Wagner’s departure. Seattle also lost the likes of Jordyn Brooks and Devin Bush to other teams.
Tyrel Dodson will be part of a new Seahawks era, following the team’s decision to move on from longtime head coach Pete Carroll. General manager John Schneider and the rest of the front office decided on having Mike Macdonald as Carroll’s successor. And right now, MacDonald still has
a number of question marks to address within the roster.
Aside from the aforementioned linebacker position, the Seahawks are in an interesting position quarterback-wise. While Geno Smith is still projected to be the starting QB next season, therecent Sam Howell traderaises rumors about a potential competition for the starting spot. To add to
that, the offensive line may also need some tweaking this offseason.
All of this amounts to the Seahawks’ goal of a bounce-back year come September.

USC basketball’s Bronny James hit with ‘Overrated,’ ‘Who’s your daddy’ insults in UCLA clash
Story by Benedetto Vitale
USC basketball took on the UCLA Bruins in a Pac-12 matchup on Saturday night. The Trojans took home the win, but all eyes were on Bronny James in this one. Mainly due to the Bruins fans taunting him when he entered the game.
James only played 14 minutes in this game as he’s more of a reserve player for USC this season. But UCLA fans were quick to throw “Overrated” and “Who’s your daddy” chants at Bronny James, per USC sports writer Luca Evans.
“UCLA crowd, seeing USC’s Bronny James go to the scorer’s table to check in before play went under review, break into chants of ‘Overrated!’ and ‘Who’s your daddy!’ before James even steps on the floor.”
UCLA crowd, seeing USC’s Bronny James go to the scorer’s table to check in before play went under review, break into chants of “Overrated!” and “Who’s your daddy!” before James even steps on the floor.
Bronny James is going to face taunts like this as long as he plays basketball. Having LeBron James as your father will do that. At the very least, he got the last laugh in the end, as the USC basketball team took down UCLA 62-56. James finished with two points, two rebounds, and two
assists on the night.
It’s unclear if he plans to enter the NBA Draft. Based on his current role on USC basketball, it would make sense for him to remain in college for another season. He still needs time to develop his game if he hopes to make the league one day.
On the other hand, it’s amazing he’s able to play at all after having that cardiac arrest incident earlier in the season. So it makes sense why USC basketball is easing Bronny James into the lineup during his freshman year.

The Seahawks hired Aden Durde, and Brit who played in NFL Europe and cut his teeth with the Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys under Dan Quinn.
“The #Seahawks plan to hire Aden Durde as their defensive coordinator, per source,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported on Friday. “Born in England, Durde played in NFL Europe and the NFL before embarking on a coaching career. Now, at age 44, he takes a big role on Mike
Macdonald’s staff in Seattle.”
Durde comes with a unique background not growing up in The States, but his NFL coaching resume is as solid as any American-born coach. He’s spent his entire career under former Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, first under Quinn as head coach of the Falcons and then
under him as DC of the Cowboys.
That’s another layer that makes this hire so interesting. Quinn was a top head coach candidate in Seattle before the team hired Mike Macdonald, and Quinn got the Washington Commanders job. The thought was that general manager John Schneider would want to keep some connection
to the Super Bowl glory days and bring back Quinn.
Now, the Seahawks get the best of both worlds.
Macdonald brings his defensive genius — honed working under both Harbaugh brothers — that helped create a top-10 defense with the Baltimore Ravens the last two seasons. And with Durde, they get a little of Quinn’s philosophy sprinkled in, too.

Mike Macdonald 'Makes Sense' for Seattle, Says Former Seahawks Scout
Story by Adam Schultz
The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era and Mike Macdonald is the one to lead the franchise post-Pete Carroll.
After doing good work with the Baltimore Ravens' defense, the hope is that Macdonald can have the same impact for Seattle.
While several candidates looked enticing, it was Macdonald who won over general manager John Schneider, and Jim Nagy, who is the executive director of the Senior Bowl and a former Seahawks scout, is excited for what's to come.
“It makes sense that he’s getting that opportunity,” Nagy said via Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk. “I’m just excited to see what he does with that personnel because I know John [Schneider] mentioned that they underachieved this year. And I don’t get to watch a ton of NFL, but when I
do, I watch the Hawks … I’m excited about what Mike Macdonald can do with those guys.”
Nagy was a Southeast Area Scout for the Seahawks before taking the job at the Reese's Senior Bowl in 2018. He was with the team during the Super Bowl-winning season in 2013.
The Seattle fan base is no doubt excited about what Macdonald can do in his first head coaching job, and with the weapons at his disposal, it is easy to see the Seahawks being a better outfit defensively next season.
With some good young pieces in Devon Witherspoon, Boye Mafe, Riq Woolen, and a couple of veteran players in Bobby Wagner, Quandre Diggs, and Jamal Adams, the Seahawks have a nice blend of youth and experience.
But it will be Macdonald's job to bring it all togethe. Defensively, the Seahawks weren't what many expected heading into the season.
The unit gave up 23.6 points per game (ranked 25th), 371.3 total yards per game (third-worst), was 12th in sacks (47) along with allowing a third-down conversion 43.6 percent of the time (ranked 31st).
There is a bit to clean up for Macdonald this offseason, but based on what he was able to do in Baltimore, it is going to be interesting to see how the defense fares under his watch.
Like Nagy, fans are excited to see what Macdonald can do.
Alabama football OC Ryan Grubb hints he’s not taking Seahawks OC job with strong Crimson Tide message
Story by Nick Meyer
Ryan Grubb is the newly hired offensive coordinator for the Alabama football team, having come over with Kalen DeBoer after losing to the Michigan Wolverines in the national title game with the Washington Huskies.
With the college football offseason rumor mill swirling and coaches playing a furious game of musical chairs, Coach Grubb decided to clear the air on his fit with the Crimson Tide’s football program.
Ryan Grubb Speaks on Alabama Football Role
Grubb led Rome Odunze, Ja’Lynn Polk and UW to a one-loss season in 2023 and now he is preparing for another championship run with the Tide.
He appeared to confirm as much during an appearance at The Red Elephant Club at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
His words seemed to confirm that Grubb will not be joining Michael McDonald, the new coach of the Seattle Seahawks, in the Emerald City.
“I’m Ryan Grubb, I’m your new Offensive Coordinator” - that was Ryan Grubb this afternoon speaking to The Red Elephant Club today at Bryant-Denny Stadium. @AlabamaFTBL#RollTide@jimdunaway
Tide Spring Game Date and Time
The 2024 Golden Flake-A-Day Spring Game is set for April 13 as Alabama football prepares to reshape its roster ahead of the 2024-2025 NCAA Football season.
The Tide return QB Jalen Milroe, the hero of the team’s SEC title run in 2023, along with a host of other talented players and another sterling recruiting class.
With the College Football Playoff expanding this year, the Tide are likely to be a heavy favorite yet again in their quest for the SEC and National Championships.
Alabama’s 2024 recruiting class is ranked number two in the country behind SEC Rival Georgia, just ahead of Oregon, Miami (FL), Ohio State, and Texas, the SEC’s newest addition.
The Tide’s class remains strong despite the defections of QB Julian Sayin and safety Caleb Downs to the Buckeyes.
Seahawks interviewing Chip Kelly for vacant OC position
Story by Dan Fappiano
The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era with Mike Macdonald now officially their next head coach. But as Macdonald gets accriminated to the Seahawks, he’ll need an offensive coordinator.
Seattle’s OC search has turned to currently UCLA head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly is interviewing for the vacant role on Wednesday, via Benjamin Solak of The Ringer.
Kelly has gotten plenty of rumored interest throughout the NFL hiring cycle. Before the Seahawks, both the Las Vegas Raiders and Washington Commanders were connected to Kelly. But with both teams filling their OC roles, Kelly is now looking for an opportunity in Seattle.
It would be an NFL return for Kelly, who was last in the league as the San Francisco 49ers head coach in 2016. He previously served in the same role with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013-2015. After taking a few years off, Kelly returned to coaching as UCLA’s lead man in 2018.
While Kelly could always return to the Bruins, he seems to have a real NFL interest once again. Even interviewing for roles shows that Kelly is seriously considering leaving UCLA if the right job is offered. Perhaps the Seahawks are the team to get Kelly back into the league.
With Pete Carroll and Shane Waldron gone, Seattle is set for major changes on offense, no matter who is offensive coordinator. The candidate who does get the job will be inheriting a team that ranked 21st overall, averaging 322.9 yards per game.
Chip Kelly has emerged as the latest candidate for the opening. As Mike Macdonald begins his head coaching tenure with the Seahawks, perhaps a veteran voice working alongside him would be best for all parties. Kelly is at least hoping Seattle feels that way.
Mariners claim Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s brother from Pirates
Story by Peter Sampson
The Seattle Mariners on Wednesday claimed outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba off of waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The newest member of the Mariners is the older brother of Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba, 24, appeared in 15 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2023, going 4-for-32 with a double, triple and 5 RBI in a pair of stints with the big league club. In 105 games with Triple-A Indianapolis last season, the left-handed hitting outfielder hit .280 (109×389) with 57 runs,
28 doubles, 1 triple, 15 home runs, 74 RBI, 21 stolen bases and 53 walks.
Prior to joining the Mariners and Pirates, Smith-Njigba was originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 4th round of the 2017 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Rockwall-Heath High School (TX). He was traded by the Yankees, along with minor leaguers Maikol Escotto, Roansy
Contreras and Miguel Yajure to Pittsburgh in exchange for RHP Jameson Taillon on Jan. 24, 2021. Smith-Njigba made his Major League debut with the Pirates on June 14, 2022 at St. Louis, recording a double as a pinch-hitter in game one of a doubleheader.
Now with Jaxon playing for the Seahawks and Canaan with the Mariners, the two brothers are reunited in Seattle.
Hopefully Jaxon can teach Canaan some of his clutch ways. Last season, the Seahawks rookie became the only player in over half a century to have two game-winning touchdown receptions in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
Jaxon made news this week for speaking about quarterback Justin Fields’ situation with the Chicago Bears:
“That’s on them. I mean, shhhhh, that’s on them. If they do that, I say good for Justin, honestly. He’s a QB1. An NFL quarterback. So, if that’s what they want to do then I guess that’s fine.”
Now fans of both the Mariners and the Seahawks have their own brother to root for.

Is MLB The Show 24 Coming To PC?
Story by Massimo Marchiano
Many fans were curious to see if MLB The Show 24 was coming out for PC. For years, the series remained exclusively on PlayStation platforms from 2006 to 2020. However, since The Show 21, the developer released the games on Xbox and Nintendo Systems as well. So, could this mean
some good news that might give hope for the future.
Originally, the MLB The Show series used to release for PlayStation only. However, Major League Baseball itself requested that the game be released on more platforms to reach a bigger baseball audience. Since then, we’ve seen The Show titles come to both Xbox and Nintendo.
Furthermore, MLB The Show 24 releases on Game Pass this year on Day One. Therefore, Xbox players with a Game Pass membership will receive the chance to play the game without having to outright buy it. With this information, we believe The Show is slowly inching towards a
potential PC release as a series.
Why MLB The Show 24 On PC Is Problematic
However, creating a PC version just creates more obstacles for developer San Diego Studios. In addition to a PC port, the developer would still makes their titles for new and previous gen systems. Furthermore, they need to figure out if the PC port plays similar to new gen or old gen
editions. For example, NBA 2K24’s PC port runs like the old gen variants (PS4 and Xbox One).
The question then becomes, would MLB The Show’s PC port play similarly to its new or old gen counterpart?
If you play the latest MLB The Show games on old gen systems, then you know how the frame rate falters during gameplay. While the experience isn’t completely different like NBA 2K24’s old and new gen editions, the developers still add on an extra load of work on an already tight
schedule. And beyond all this, we don’t know how sales numbers would look on a PC port.
Overall, we believe it’s possible that MLB The Show sees a PC release some day. However, right now just isn’t the best time for multiple reasons. Unless the developer and publisher are convinced it would provide a financial boom, then they would tackle the opportunity. However, we
believe now just isn’t that time.
Nevertheless, check out everything you need to know about MLB The Show 24, including the Release Date, Gameplay, and Trailers.

NFL Rumors: Alabama OC Ryan Grubb emerges as Seahawks OC candidate after Mike Macdonald hire
Story by Christopher Smith
The Seattle Seahawks are searching for their next offensive coordinator after hiring Mike Macdonald as the team’s head coach. Seattle has a new interesting candidate after a report surfaced on Washington-turned-Alabama football OC Ryan Grubb.
Ryan Grubb could be the Seahawks’ next OC
Former Washington football OC Ryan Grubb followed head coach Kalen DeBoer to the Alabama football program in early 2024. However, he could pivot again. Grub is under consideration for the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator job, per Pro Football Talk.
Grubb was instrumental in the Huskies’ 2024 national championship showing. In addition to helping guide the team to one of the nation’s top offenses, he aided Michael Penix Jr.’s ascent. Penix erupted for 4,903 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and a QBR of 84.1 (sixth in the country)
during the 203-24 season.
Ryan Grubb’s experience would be highly valuable to a Seahawks team that wants to get over the hump. Seattle finished the season with a 9-8 record and failed to make the NFL Playoffs. Nevertheless, the team boasts offensive weapons that could be of interest to Grubb.
Geno Smith commanded Seattle’s offense and threw for 3,624 yards, 20 TDs, and achieved a QBR of 59.5, which tied him for 13th in the NFL. Smith battled some minor injury woes but looks to be a solid leader for Seattle going forward.
Moreover, the Seahawks retain the services of DK Metcalf, who ranked eighth in receiving TDs during the season. Perhaps Grubb could improve the dynamic between Smith and Metcalf. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see the direction Seattle takes for its new offensive leader.
Mike Macdonald and company have plenty of quality options to evaluate going into the offseason.
Seahawks seek interview with Lions assistant for OC opening
Story by Nick Meyer
The Seattle Seahawks are coming off of a solid but unspectacular season that saw Pete Carroll leave at the end of it.
With Carroll out of the picture and former Ravens defensive coordinator Michael McDonald in as head coach, the question now is whether or not the Seahawks are still contenders in the NFC West.
Recently, an Alabama football rising star coach was mentioned as a possible candidate for the offensive coordinator position under McDonald. Coach McDonald’s first plan of action was revealed as the Seahawks’ new head man.
McDonald promised the Seahawks would “win a lot of football games” to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Now he may have found the man to lead his offense, an unsung hero for the NFC runner-up Detroit Lions this season.
Seahawks Request Interview with Lions Coach
Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has gotten most of the headlines this offseason among Detroit assistant coaches. One of his assistants is Tanner Engstrand, the Lions’ passing game coordinator.
According to Albert Breer on X, the Lions assistant has been tabbed for an interview with the Seahawks.
“The Seahawks have requested to interview Lions pass-game coordinator Tanner Engstrand for their offensive coordinator job, per source,” Breer wrote. “Engstrand is slated to meet with Tampa Bay for their OC spot and interviewed last week for the Patriots job.”
Engstrand a Good Fit for Ravens?
Engstrand’s Lions ranked 2nd in the NFL in passing yards last season with Jared Goff and Amon-Ra St. Brown racking up big yardage en route to an NFC North title.
Meanwhile, Smith and the Seahawks ranked 14th, suggesting that the Lions assistant’s expertise could be a welcome addition to McDonald’s coaching staff.

In an episode of 'Gil's Arena,' former NBA point guard Gilbert Arenas gave his true thoughts on Bronny James' young basketball career. Taking a cynical approach, Arenas compared Bronny to an athletic Jrue Holiday and admitted that he still isn't sure what Bronny really is.
“Bronny…he’s a Jrue Holiday, just more athletic,” Arenas said. “If he turns on his tiger, for sure. He just plays the right way. We don’t know what he really is. He has the Bugatti engine, but he wants to drive the speed limit. He don’t want a ticket. ‘I don’t want a ticket.’ That’s how he uses
his body.”
Bronny isn't too far removed from the cardiac incident that threatened his entire basketball future. Naturally, he'll want to take it easy coming back from something like that and James has been slowly easing into form over the past few weeks. On the court, Bronny has been almost quiet
Practically born in the spotlight, Bronny faced pressure from the start to live up to expectations and fill his father's shoes as his first-born son. and while the just is still out on Bronny's potential in the NBA, he's already done enough to make his family proud. Wednesday against Arizona,
with his father looking on, Bronny had his best college game to date with 11 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds as the starting guard. In the most recent game, he finished with 7 points and 5 assists against Arizona State.
While Bronny's stats are not overly impressive, he's showing flashes as a shooter and player who has many people convinced he'll succeed in the NBA. Regardless of where he's at now, though, Bronny will have to keep working on his game throughout the season if he wants to raise his
draft stock. Fortunately, with a great work ethic and a supportive family to back him up, Bronny is more than capable of making a leap and there is strong confidence about his basketball future.
Who Will Draft Bronny?
At 6'4" and 210 pounds, Bronny James is a well-sized guard with an excellent feel for the game. Confident yet unselfish, Bronny is similar to his dad in that he always seeks to make the right play. This season, while he's been struggling to shoot the ball, he's got a good form and is taking
add a completely new list of things to consider. For now, there's nothing left to do but wait and see how it all plays out for Bronny, who is proving every day that he is more than the son of an NBA legend.
Bobby Wagner is our nominee for the Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award.
“There’s all kinds of stuff that’s going to happen. The story’s not told, what’s going to happen,” Carroll said. “We’ve got great chances again in the next couple of weeks against teams that are worthy of being on top of this thing at the end.
“And we’re going to show the world we’re worthy of being right there with them.”

Ichiro Suzuki reveals why he’s still playing baseball at 50 years old amid viral 116-pitch game
Story by Jimmy Wright
Any Major League Baseball teams that are searching for pitching this offseason might want to give former Seattle Mariner Ichiro Suzuki a call. Despite retiring from MLB after the 2019 season, Suzuki is still playing baseball, and apparently overlooked a career on the mound.
“I wasn’t ready to give up the game I love,” Ichiro explainedin a piece exploringhis passion for baseball by The Athletic’s Brad Lefton .
Of course,Suzuki isn’t playing professionally anymore.Instead, he has put together his own All-Star team that faces off against amateur challengers. This week, Ichiro’s All-Stars squared off against Japan’s national girls select high school baseball team. The longtime Mariners struck out
nine batters in a complete game, 116-pitch shutout.
For good measure, Ichiro, who played right field for a majority of his career, also collected two hits in five at-bats, including a double.
Ichiro still giving back to the game
So why, at the age of 50, is Ichiro still playing baseball, against a team of elite high school girls no less? The legendary ballplayer simply loves the game too much to not be involved.
“The game brought a special joy to me as a kid and I craved to recapture that feeling. Don’t get me wrong, I had a completely fulfilling career. But let’s face it, the world of professional baseball is not enjoyable in the same way. It’s filled with pressure and responsibility.”
In particular, Ichiro spoke about “a love for the game that inspired you from a young age to get there. I gave my best for 28 years as a pro. Now I want to go back and rediscover the purity of the joy this wonderful game can provide.”
A fan favorite throughout his MLB career, Ichiro Suzuki is still finding ways to give back to the game he loves, while promoting girls high school baseball in the process. Talk about an ambassador for the game.
Ichiro Suzuki talks about his love for the game after pitching a shutout against high-school team
Japanese pitching legend Ichiro Suzuki spoke to the The Athletic recently after pitching a complete-game shoutout against a girls high-school team at the Tokyo Dome on Tuesday. While he retired from the MLB in 2019, Suzuki's love for the game has kept him going and he explained his
point of view on the beloved game recently.
Ichiro Suzuki stared his professional baseball career with the Orix BlueWave in 1992 and quickly established himself as one of the top pitchers in the league, winning multiple awards during his time there. He then joined the MLB in 2001 when he signed with the Seattle Mariners and
became a legend of the game in the 12 years he spent there. He had short spells with the New York Yankees and the Miami Marlins, before ending his MLB career with the Mariners in 2019.
Despite ending his MLB career over five years ago, Suzuki has been a source of inspiration to a new generation of Asian baseball stars in the MLB. This year especially, there have been a number of Japanese pitchers in the market who have become free agents, attracting attention from
several teams. Among those are Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Kenta Maeda.
However,Suzukirefuses to stop playing despite his retirement from the game. After his performance, he expressed his love for baseball, saying:
"I wasn't ready to give up the game I love."
Japanese legend Ichiro Suzuki completes 116-pitch shutout game with 9 strikeouts
Former MLBand Seattle Mariners legend Ichiro Suzuki recently pitched in a game against a high school girls team and finished with nine strikeouts in a 116-pitch shutout performance.
The 50-year-old was playing for a team of his own creation against an amateur side at the Tokyo Dome. This was part of an annual exhibition game in an effort to support and promote girls' baseball in Japan.
The student-athletes watching him clapped and laughed in amusement. Meanwhile, Ichiro's face added to the entertainment because he looked like he was a bit nervous about potentially getting in trouble.
As reported byMLB.com,Ichiro took about 63 swings and cleared the 26-foot-high netting that protects the building twice. Fortunately, only one window was broken that day.
Ichiro made his professional debut for theSeattle Marinersin April 2001, and his last appearance was also for the Mariners in March 2019. Through that time, he also played for the New York Yankeesand Miami Marlins.

Seahawks’ Geno Smith, Jamal Adams trending towards playing in Thanksgiving Day contest vs. 49ers
Story by DJ Foster
The Seattle Seahawks have a big Thanksgiving day matchup with NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers, but there’s still some major injury uncertainty throughout Seattle’s roster. It’s unclear whether Geno Smith, Kenneth Walker III, DK Metcalf, Jamal Adams and others will be able to suit
up for the critical division game, but it sounds like there may be some good news on the way for the Seahawks.
There’s optimism that Geno Smith and Jamal Adams will be able to play in Thursday’s game, according to Ian Rapoport.
Seahawks QB Geno Smith’s Week 12 status still up in the air
Smith is obviously the biggest piece of the puzzle. He suffered an elbow/triceps contusion in Week 11, and didn’t practice Monday and was limited on Tuesday. While Wednesday’s practice is likely to be more of a walkthrough, it will be interesting to see what Smith’s official injury
designation is heading into the Week 12 battle with the 49ers.
If Smith is unable to play due to the injury, Drew Lock would be expected to get the start. Playing behind either Smith or Lock at running back is likely to be Zach Charbonnet, as Kenneth Walker III suffered an oblique injury last week and is likely out. Walker isn’t a candidate to go to the
injured reserve list, but it seems unlikely he’ll play in Week 12.
Geno Smith said earlier in the week that the decision on his Week 12 status will be up to the coaches, and it will be interesting to see what Pete Carroll does. Getting a read on Seattle’s injury designations is always difficult, but we’ll have more updates after Wednesday’s practices leading
up to the marquee Seahawks-49ers matchup on Thanksgiving.
Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker gets tough injury update before 49ers game
Walker left the Seahawks’ Week 11 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the first quarter with a strained oblique. Smith exited in the fourth with a triceps injury but returned to lead a final field goal drive that resulted in a missed game-winning kick by Seattle’s Jason Myers.
On Wednesday, NFL Network reporter Omar Ruiz shared that, “Seahawks announce that Geno Smith is questionable for tomorrow, while Kenneth Walker is doubtful.”
While this Kenneth Walker II and Geno Smith injury update is about what most expected on the short week, it’s still tough news for Seahawks fans to swallow ahead of the huge Week 12 showdown with the 49ers.
Walker is the team’s leading rusher with 149 carries and 613 yards on the season, which dwarfs rookie backup Zach Charbonnet’s 53 carries for 261 yards. This will create a big hole for a team that has lost two of its last three and faces a team in the 49ers on a two-game win streak after
their three-game losing streak before their bye.
Seattle enters the game 6-4, while San Francisco is 7-3. Whoever wins this contest on Thanksgiving night will earn first place in the NFC West either by owning the tie-breakers (Seahawks) or having the better record (49ers).
The big X factor may be Smith, who looked OK in the last drive against the Rams but took a massive hit from Aaron Donald, which could have lasting repercussions this season.

now trying to bounce back after a crushing divisional road loss at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday in a game that Seattle led by multiple possessions in the fourth quarter.
Up next for the Seahawks is arguably their toughest test of the season, as they will hit the road to take on the San Francisco 49ers on Thanksgiving night, and now Smith is getting one hundred percent honest on how frustrating the success that San Francisco has had against his team in
recent memory has been for him.
“Obviously they beat us three times last year, and to me that’s unacceptable,” said Smith, per Brady Henderson of ESPN’s NFL Nation.
When asked whether or not Seattle’s offense is better prepared for the matchup with San Francisco’s vaunted defensive unit than they were previously, Smith simply said, “We have to find out on Thursday night.”
Of course, the third matchup that Smith referred to about last season’s frustration was in the NFC Wild Card round, in which the 49ers had no issues dropping off Seattle.
Geno Smith’s status for the game against the 49ers on Thanksgiving is in doubt due to a triceps injury sustained against the Rams that forced him to leave that contest.

Seahawks most to blame for gut-wrenching Week 11 loss to Rams
Week 11 Loss
Update: Seahawks QB Drew Lock enters the game. Geno Smith is going to the medical tent.
The decision to assess backup QB Drew Lock’s capabilities faced challenges as hestruggled during Smith’s absence. Lock’s inaccuracy was evident. This led to a mere 2-of-6 completion rate for three yards and an interception. While Lock showcased mobility and a strong arm, his fatal
inaccuracy proved detrimental. This prompted Smith’s reinsertion into the lineup.
Despite Lock’s youth and high draft status, the presumed higher ceiling did not manifest on the field. The argument against his erratic performance challenges the notion that toolsy and mobile quarterbacks with inherent accuracy issues can succeed. Of course, someone like Josh Allen is
cited as a rare exception rather than the rule.
Looking Ahead
The Week 11 loss for the Seattle Seahawks against the Los Angeles Rams revealed a combination of factors contributing to the defeat. Jason Myers’ uncharacteristic miss in a critical moment,Pete Carroll’s strategic decisions in the final seconds, the pass rush’s mixed performance, and
Drew Lock’s struggles underlined the challenges faced by the team. As the Seahawks navigate the remainder of the season, addressing these issues becomes paramount to secure playoff contention. The collective effort to learn from these setbacks, make necessary adjustments, and
maintain confidence in key players will be crucial for the Seahawks to rebound and pursue success in the face of adversity.

Seahawks offense set for Tyler Lockett boost in big game vs. Rams
Tyler Lockett, who didn’t practice all week due to a lingering hamstring injury, is expected to play in Week 11, per Adam Schefter. He’s listed as questionable. Lockett has been dealing with this issue for quite a few weeks now and it does appear he’ll continue to do so. It wouldn’t be
surprising to see him get some type of procedure on the hamstring in the offseason if the problem doesn’t go away with treatment.
The veteran has been an important piece to the puzzle for the Seahawks in 2023, reeling in 46 catches for 494 yards and four TDs. He leads Seattle in receptions, but DK Metcalf is first in receiving yards with 552.
Lockett, Metcalf, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are easily Geno Smith’s top three targets. Missing any of them would hurt because this team doesn’t have a ton of depth in their WR room. Lockett grabbed eight catches for 92 yards in a Week 10 win over the Washington Commanders.
The Seahawks are 6-3 in the NFC West at the moment, which is second behind the San Francisco 49ers. If the season ended today, they would make the playoffs, but that divisional title will surely be the goal. Pete Carroll’s squad does face the Niners in Week 12, which could prove to be
their most crucial contest of the entire campaign. In fact, the next four games after LA are all against contenders, including the Cowboys, 49ers again, and the Eagles.

Grizzlies’ Marcus Smart leaves Lakers game with potentially serious injury
Story by Rexwell Villas
Memphis Grizzlies point guard Marcus Smart exited Tuesday night’s meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers in the first half after suffering an apparent lower-body injury.
Smart was trying to deflect a pass made by Austin Reaves when he landed on the foot of the Lakers forward. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year was forced to leave the game shortly after with the help of the Grizzlies staff and players. It was not a great sight for Memphis fans,
to say the least, especially since the team is still missing the services of suspended star Ja Morant.
Marcus Smart started at the point guard slot in the Lakers game and posted three points with a rebound, an assist, and a steal in eight minutes of action before leaving the contest.
The Grizzlies have already ruled out Smart for the rest of the night, which seems like the right thing to do for them, given the blowout nature of the game in favor of the Lakers.
The Grizzlies are not just without Morant. Derrick Rose is still sidelined on a week-to-week basis due to a knee issue and Luke Kennard is also apparently dealing with the same issue. In the event that Smart needs to miss games to recover from his injury, the Grizzlies will have more on
the plates of the likes of Jacob Gilyard, John Konchar, and Desmond Bane in the Memphis backcourt.
Memphis will have three days of full rest after its date with the Lakers, and hopefully, that’s enough time for Smart to heal up.

The Seattle Seahawks are doing well through the first part of the 2023-24 NFL season. The Seahawks have a record of 5-3 and are tied for 1st place in the NFC West. Seattle decided to bolster its depth before the team’s Week 10 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Kenny
Seahawks receive offensive support for their Week 10 matchup
The Seahawks come off an ugly 37-3 loss against the Baltimore Ravens. The team had a poor offensive day that was headlined by four sacks on Geno Smith. Thus, the Seahawks need all the help they can get against the Commanders.
Kenny McIntosh was a seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. The 23-year-old RB has not gotten o display his talent due to a knee injury he suffered during training camp in August. If he can play, then he should be able to provide solid support to Seattle’s running game.
Similarly, Dareke Young has seen limited action in his young NFL career. Young was set to play at the start of the 2023 season, but a groin injury during training camp kept him sidelined. The Seahawks want to see what the 24-year-old can do after extended time off.
The Commanders enter Week 10 fresh off a win against the New England Patriots. Sam Howell threw for 325 yards and one touchdown. However, Howell was sacked three times during the game. If Seattle can put pressure on the young QB, they can disrupt Washington’s offense and
have a chance to win.
Can the Seahawks add to their winning record and take the top spot in the NFC West?
Huskies player roasted for making dumbest play of the year vs Utah
Story by Steve Silverman
Washington and Utah engaged in a classic Pac-12 football shootout in Seattle, and the Huskies survived a back-and-forth game against the rugged Utes by a 35-28 margin.
However, Washington nearly gave Utah a chance to steal the game after a shocking error following an interception.
The Huskies took a 33-28 lead on a Michael Penix TD pass to Rome Odunze in the 3rd quarter, and it appeared the Huskies were about to put the game away with a huge defensive play by Alphonzo Tuputala.

washington-end-zone-fumble
On Utah’s following possession following the score, Tuputala intercepted a pass by Utah quarterback Bryson Barnes at the Washington 19. Tuputala took off after making the pick and he was on his way to an 81-yard return for a touchdown.
However, instead of crossing the goal line with the ball in his hands, Tuputala dropped the ball on the ground in casual fashion at the Utah 2. The Utes jumped on the ball while Tuputala celebrated erroneously in the end zone, and that gave Utah possession deep in its own territory.
Instead of facing an 11- or 12-point deficit, the Utes had a first down at their own 2 while trailing by 5.
Tuputala thought he had delivered a huge touchdown, but he soon realized he committed a huge gaffe, not unlike wide receiver DeSean Jackson did for the Philadelphia Eagles in a game against the Dallas Cowboys in 2008.
Tuputala’s error was egregious, but the Huskies responded on the next play by tackling Ja’Quinden Jackson in the end zone for a safety and a 7-point lead in the game.
The Huskies took that advantage into the 4th quarter, and managed to hold on for the victory.

Pelicans’ Zion Williamson to play in-season tournament game vs. Rockets
The Seattle Seahawks (5-3) got to experience an elite NFL team instead of the bad teams they’ve generally been beating over the past few weeks. We ended up with one of the worst performances of the entire Pete Carroll era.
Much like what happened to the Detroit Lions a couple of weeks back, the Baltimore Ravens (7-2) just smashed in the Seahawks to the tune of 37-3. Geno Smith completed less than half his passes, turned it over twice, could’ve easily turned it over more times, and was just bad. The
offensive line was under siege and couldn’t get any push against Baltimore, running for just 28 yards on 15 attempts.
The defense? Atrocious. Allowed almost 300 yards of RUSHING OFFENSE. Lamar Jackson was an efficient 21/26 for 187 yards. No touchdowns for him on the day, but his backup Tyler Huntley got in and threw a touchdown to Odell Beckham Jr for good measure.
Baltimore is one of the best teams in the NFL. Seattle is 5-3 but they are still miles off the elite of the league, just as they were last year. Geno Smith, Drew Lock, Mike Teel, Charlie Whitehurst, it doesn’t matter. This was an all-around failure and almost nothing positive can come out of
The Ravens won the coin toss, giving Seattle the ball first on offense. Normally a strong-starting group, Seattle went three-and-out after Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a bobble on 3rd down and didn’t make the catch until he was out of bounds. Lamar Jackson got one first down to Mark
Andrews, but a false start just about put them behind schedule and the Ravens punted it back.
Geno Smith got one first down to Tyler Lockett, but a 3rd down bat down by former Seahawk Jadeveon Clowney had Pete Carroll punting in Baltimore territory. Backed up at their own 5, the Ravens had an instant 3-and-out. Once again the Seahawks had a first down to Lockett, but the
drive stalled after two penalties on Jason Peters, one of which was declined because Geno got sacked anyway.

The Ravens finally got a drive going into Seahawks territory, with Lamar throwing short passes to his tight ends Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews, as well as Odell Beckham Jr.

2nd Quarter
Gus Edwards, who had a hat trick of touchdowns last week, waltzed into the end zone from 5 yards out to cap off a 12-play, 81-yard drive.
Geno Smith’s interception woes continued with an overthrown ball intended for Tyler Lockett. It went into the hands of Geno Stone, with his league-leading sixth interception of the season.
Lamar Jackson evaded Boye Mafe for a 23-yard gain because he’s just simply Lamar Jackson. Couldn’t do it a second time, though! Mafe with the strip-sack, and Seattle with the recovery!
Seattle went three-and-out, with a sack included. The Ravens responded with an 81-yard drive that was just almost nothing but positive plays. Gus Edwards capped off the drive with his second touchdown, as the Ravens soared past 200 yards of offense.
Hey! Offense! DK Metcalf got open on a 50-yard crosser off of play-action, as Geno Smith hit him in stride and he took off on a big catch-and-run all the way to Baltimore’s 25. Zach Charbonnet got a 2nd and 3 carry inside the Ravens’ 15. Of course, this is Seattle in the red zone so they
FUMBLE! Odell Beckham Jr sloppily handled the ball on a catch, and Tre Brown ended up busting it loose. Bobby Wagner was there for the recovery! What was Beckham doing?!
Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports
...And then this happened.
Justin Tucker made it 17-3 before the half after that latest Geno turnover.
3rd Quarter
Gus Edwards broke through a Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen tackle to gain 42 yards to start the 2nd half. Seattle’s defense stiffened up well enough to force another Tucker field goal to extend the lead.
The Seahawks, of course, went three-and-out. No one open, offensive line overmatched, you get the drill. Baltimore had a three-and-out of their own, so it seemed, but the Ravens went for it on 4th and 1 at their own 48... Dre’Mont Jones jumped offside. Then on 3rd and 18, Mark
Andrews gained 17 yards, allowing them to go for it and convert with Lamar. Into field goal range they went, and Justin Tucker extended the lead from 31.
After another useless drive, the Ravens got it back and Keaton Mitchell slammed the door shut with a 40-yard score. The rookie raced past everyone.
4th Quarter
Not even sure what’s the point of writing the recap anymore. The Ravens kept shutting the offense down. Tyler Huntley came on and he led a TD drive, finished off by an Odell Beckham Jr score.

Russell Wilson, Broncos passing attack get called out by Sean Payton after loss to Chiefs
Story by Pete Sweeney
TheKansas City Chiefsknocked off theDenver Broncosin front of the world on "Thursday Night Football," winning their first division game of the season 19-8. The Chiefs now enter their mini-bye with a 5-1 record.
Let's get into the initial thoughts following this one:
Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs (Perry Knotts / Getty Images)
Image: Denver Broncos v Kansas City Chiefs (Jamie Squire / Getty Images)
Taylor Swift made a "significant contribution" to a Kansas City food bank over the summer.
Watching quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the initial years of his career, it seemed absolutely and utterly impossible that the top unit of any Mahomes-led team could be the defense, but that's the reality after a quarter and change of the 2023 NFL season.
Head coach Andy Reid and Mahomes struggled in some ways — and we'll get to those — but first, we have to rave about this defensive effort.
The@Chiefsdefense puts an exclamation point on an incredible effort
Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has been talking up safety Justin Reid all offseason, noting the step forward he would take in his second year manning the secondary. It's become obvious, with his sack after two missed tackles early setting the tone and his interception late helping to close the deal.
As the Chiefs' offense trudged along in the mud early, the defense kept succeeding — with Nick Bolton (in his return) intercepting the football, the unit eventually forcing a punt after a Mahomes interception and a three-and-out when the Dave Toub"brotherly shove"failed to convert a fourth-and-2.
Defensive end George Karlaftis battled a hamstring issue all week and was questionable for the contest, yet he might have played his best game of the season injured. Karlaftis finished with three tackles, two pass deflections and half a sack. Meanwhile, defensive tackle Chris Jones made franchise history, recording
his fifth sack in as many games.
It's important to remember here that though the Broncos record was bad entering the game, their offense has been playing much better in recent weeks than it did last season. The Chiefs made them look awfully Hacketty.
The Russell Wilson experiment has failed, and it’s time to move on
For years, Spagnuolo's squad has wanted to be a consistent reason the team won football games. It's good and bad, but that time is now.
...and oh yeah — inside-outside defensive lineman Charles Omenihu suits up next week.

Travis Kelce remains the guy, and it appears the supporting cast is taking shape.
Coming into a game against the Chiefs, you might assume that a team that plays them twice a year, every year — and has lost 15 games in a row to them — would know about No. 87. It's not like he has been in the news lately or anything, right?
I have to give you the necessary disclaimer — defensive coordinator Vance Joseph has forgotten more about football than I'll ever know — but wouldn't the first thing you do on every single play is, have one or two players devoted to handling tight end Travis Kelce?
The Broncos didn't — with Kelce finding himself seemingly wide-open all... game... long.
Of course, the tight end who still manages production even when extra attention took fool advantage, to the tune of nine catches for 124 yards and his first game of more than 100 yards this season.
Thelive-game snap-counters notedthat Kansas City made a point of getting rookie Rashee Rice more involved on Thursday night — and though the final numbers won't dazzle, it's a positive sign that Rice continues to take advantage of his opportunities. The rookie finished with four catches for 72 yards with no
mention of the "D" word — and his performance included what turned out to be a game-controlling 28-yard catch in the fourth quarter.
And now for the nitpick section of my instant reaction...
Let's be clear here: Kansas City is 5-1 atop the AFC, which means that its annual goal of raising anotherSuper Bowlbanner is right within reach. But because of that well-known goal, that is where our nitpicking section finds validity.
The offense was disappointing Thursday night as it went up against the league-worst scoring unit. What once felt like a rarity — Mahomes bewilderingly lofting a ball in the air only for it to wind up in the hands of a lingering defender — is teetering along the lines of a trend.
In short yardage, the Chiefs finally tried a sneak on fourth-and-short (of sorts) — the only problem is that they did it with the field-goal unit, and it failed. A later critical short-yardage try saw Kadarius Toney hand off the football (and surprise, that failed, too). Back to the drawing board.
Finally, the Chiefs were dismal in the red zone (1 of 5) against a Denver defense that entered at No. 22 in the NFL in that area (62%).
That's more than fine against the Broncos, a team very clearly yet to find itself. TheLos Angeles Chargersare next week, with theMiami Dolphinslooming the week behind that. And after the bye? A Super Bowl rematch.
Knowing Andy Reid, maybe it won't be much of a mini-bye for him after all.

A massive bomb hit what appeared to be a high-rise apartment building in Gaza city on Saturday, live, on camera as an Al Jazeera reporter was giving an update to her home studio near the scene.
The blast was an instant, dramatic illustration of how warfare completely upends any normal routine.
The attack by the Israeli military was part of Israel's retaliation in response to thousands of earlier rocket strikes and infiltrations into the country by Hamas.
The bomb erupted just as correspondent Youmna El Sayed was asked a question about Israeli hostages taken by Hamas.
The bomb suddenly exploded in the background of the video, causing an upset El Sayed to duck and scream.
The TV announcer immediately responded: "Youmna, please take cover."
He added: "If you are in a position to do so safely, you can explain to us what [is] happening. If you are not ... then, please, get to safety."
El Sayed stayed on the scene, but was gasping for breath. The announcer told her: "Youmna, take a moment to breathe."
She reported later that the building was ultimately destroyed.
