The Seattle Kraken have been eliminated from playoff contention following their 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night.
The Kraken struggled from the get-go this season after surprisingly making the playoffs last season and beating the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.
Yet, with their loss to LA, the Kraken fell to 31-31-3 on the year and have officially been eliminated from playoff contention. Following that, fans took shots at them.
"Seems like they're settling into mid."
"7th seed isn't exactly great, but the vibes were good."
"Beating the reigning stanley cup champion was pretty good."
"Being mid has to be the worst possible place a team could be, not high enough to make playoffs but not bad enough to draft high," a Reddit user wrote.
"Kraken first 3 seasons: awful, great, mid. Seattle gets to experience it all," another user added.
"They went from having four 2nd lines, to having four 3rd lines this season," a user wrote.
"There is always next year with a completely different lineup," a user wrote.
The Seattle Kraken faced an uphill climb to make the playoffs since the start of the year. The Kraken went 3-5-2 in their first 10 games, seven of them on the road, while not winning more than two consecutive games until after the Christmas break.
From getting to the second round of the playoffs last season to missing it now is no doubt disappointing.
Seattle Kraken look toward the off-season
With the Seattle Kraken being eliminated from playoff contention, the team will now be looking toward the draft and free agency.
Seattle has seven games left this season, but Kraken head coach Dave Hakstol says the team still has plenty to play for as the coaching staff will look to evaluate where everyone fits into the roster next season.
"We're playing for other things here," Hakstol said, via TSN. "We're disappointed with the outcome today. We left some of our effort on the table. I don't think our effort was poor, but we left too much in the tank here today.
"You have to evaluate it for what it is, both individually and collectively. It's good to be able to come out and have a push in the third, but that needed to start at the start of the hockey game today, and that's where we fell short."
Seattle will enter the off-season with five picks in the first three rounds of the 2024 NHL draft.
Great minds ponder great questions, such as "How high is 'up?'" and "Do fish get thirsty?" and "Why do we cook bacon and bake cookies?"
And this season, great hockey minds are pondering, "Who are the Seattle Kraken?" On hispodcast, Jeff Marek and guest Greg Wyshynski took a stab at answering.
Greg Wyshynski: "If you had asked me what the Seattle Kraken were a month ago, I would have said, 'A team counting its lottery odds.' Now, they're right back in it. If they get in as a wild card team, it's hard to say how you approach the future after that, because that's two playoff
qualifications in a row."
Jeff Marek: "They really confuse me. You see a lot of different versions of teams throughout a year. I don't know which Seattle Kraken is the real version. At times they've looked like a traditional expansion team. Then when they went on that rip not too long ago, they looked like a
'Vegas' style expansion team."
GW: "The numbers tell you they should be a better offensive team and a worse defensive team. Part of the reason they seem so 'Jekyll and Hyde' is that they regress to what they should be, and other times they're above what they're expected to do."
JM: "Which is the real Matt Beniers? The one we saw last year with the Calder Trophy? Or the one we see struggling, seeing minutes reduced, seeing assignments reduced, going all the way down from the penthouse to the first floor?"
JM: "They're loaded with prospects. The future does look bright for the Seattle Kraken. They've really drafted well. Do they do something different? As wild as making a trade for Tomas Hertl? And maybe you don't re-sign Alex Wennberg."
Well, that cleared up absolutely nothing. Then again, maybe this is one of those unanswerable questions which the Hockey Gods pose to drive us insane.
Marek is absolutely right, though, that the biggest complicating factor in figuring out the Kraken is last season's unexpected success. "You've done it once. Now your fans expect it every single year."

Former Islander Jordan Eberle Signs Extension With Seattle Kraken
The NHL trade deadline always brings about plenty of rumors, and Jordan Eberle’s name has been involved in many of them this year. But after months of speculation over whether or not the forward would be traded, he’s sticking right where he is.
First reported by Jeff Marek and later confirmed by CapFriendly, Eberle has agreed to a two-year contract extension with the Seattle Kraken with an average annual salary of $4.75 million.
Eberle was in the final year of his five-year contract with Seattle, one he originally signed with the New York Islanders back in 2019.
Eberle first arrived with the Islanders via a trade with the Edmonton Oilers in 2017. Across four seasons with the Islanders, Eberle amassed 169 points with 76 goals, helping the Islanders reach consecutive Stanley Cup semifinals in 2020 and 2021.
It was after that playoff run in 2021 that the Islanders left Eberle exposed in the NHL Expansion Draft, where the Kraken picked him with the 12th pick.
In three seasons with Seattle since, Eberle has accumulated 144 points with 55 goals. This season, he has totaled 37 points with 14 goals in 58 games played.
Eberle is not the only former Islander who has earned an extension with their newest team.
Defenseman Parker Wortherspoon inked a one-year deal to stick with the Boston Bruins for the price tag of $800,000 on Friday afternoon. Wotherspoon signed with Boston this past offseason after spending seven years in the Islanders organization.
Elsewhere around the league, former Islanders forward Anthony Beauvillier was shipped from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Nashville Predators on Thursday in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. It’s the second time he’s been traded this season.
After the Islanders sent Beauvillier to the Vancouver Canucks last year as part of the deal that brought Bo Horvat to Long Island, the Canucks flipped him to Chicago in a deal back in November. Now, Beauvillier is on the move once again and will be reunited with his former Islanders
head coach Barry Trotz in Nashville.
As for what the Islanders themselves have done at this year’s deadline, so far, nothing.
The NHL trade deadline is this afternoon at 3 p.m. EST.
We’ve agreed to terms with alternate captain Jordan Eberle on a two-year extension ($4.75M AAV) → https://bit.ly/Eberle030824

Kraken outlast Wild 4-3 in final regular-season game for non-playoff teams
Seattle Kraken vs. Minnesota Wild: Game Highlights
To the best fans in the world, thank you for the love and support this season
By AP
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- — Tye Kartyetipped in a slap shot by Oliver Bjorkstrandfor the tiebreaking goal with 2:40 remaining, and the Seattle Krakenheld on to beat the Minnesota Wild4-3 on Thursday night to wrap up the regular season for two teams
that missed the playoffs.
Brock Faberanswered Yanni Gourde's empty-netter with 1:46 left by scoring for the Wild on a 6-on-4 power play with 1:05 left and goalie Marc-Andre Fleurypulled, but Kraken goalie Joey Daccord— who had 21 saves — and the defense held up.

“It’s been tough sledding all year, and I think it was only fitting that we brought it down to the wire there at the last second,” Daccord said.
Brandon Tanev, who assisted on both of Gourde's third period goals, painfully blocked a shot with his lower body in the final seconds that had him doubled over on the ice at the final horn.
“Turbo made some elite blocks there,” Gourde said. “Everybody battled.”
Kirill Kaprizovscored his 46th goal of the season on a power play in the first period, and Mats Zuccarellohad the tying goal midway through the third period for the Wild.
Matty Benierstied the game for the Kraken in the second period on a power play tip-in before Gourde's short-handed breakaway. He later scored on an empty-netter.
Beniers, the second overall pick in the 2021 draft, dropped to 15 goals and 37 points this season after the first-line center had 24 goals and 57 points in 2022-23.
Ryan Hartman Scores a Late Wild Goal
Kaprizov finished with 96 points this season after a slow start, by far the second-most in franchise history behind his 105 points in 2021-22 when he had 47 goals and 61 assists to set the all-time Wild marks in all three categories. Kevin Fialais third
with 85 points in 2021-22.
When Kraken leading scorer Jared McCannmade a blind pass away from the boards toward teammate Will Borgen, Kaprizov intercepted it and flicked in an unobstructed wrist shot for the early lead.
The Wild have had five 40-goal scorers in their 23-season history, including Kaprizov three times. Eric Staal (2017-18) and Marian Gaborik (2007-08) were the others.
“If you’re really going to go places in this league, you really need a player of his caliber and what he means to the team in situations he plays in,” coach John Hynes said. "I really respect his effort.”
Yanni Gourde Tallies Kraken Goal
Daccord had a strong seasonfor the Kraken, but after upsetting 2022 champion Colorado in the first round of the playoffs last spring, the club took a step backward. They and the Wild were in a crowd of teams in the mix for the Western Conference
wild-card spots, but they were eliminated seven games ago.
The Wild were ousted from contention five games ago, missing the postseason for just the second time in 12 years. Fleury, who signed a $2.5 million contract extensionto return for next season and received the Wild’s nomination for the King Clancy
Memorial Trophy, the NHL’s annual leadership and philanthropy award, was one bright spot. He passed Patrick Roy for second place on the all-time wins list in January.
The 39-year-old was presented with the Wild’s Tom Kurvers Humanitarian Award on the ice before the game. Kurvers, an assistant general manager for the Wild, died in 2021 of cancer.
For all the fuss made over Fleury this year, he has quickly pointed to his absence from the playoffs — for the first time since 2006 — as the overriding theme of the season.
“The last little stretch here in the season was weird, playing for nothing really, right?” said Fleury, who made 23 saves. "So, not a good feeling, and definitely something I don’t want to feel next year.”

Kyle Connor scores twice as Jets edge Kraken 4-3 to clinch second in the Central Division
The win clinched second place in the Central Division for the Jets and home-ice advantage in their first-round playoff series with the Colorado Avalanche.
“Obviously that’s what we wanted to do tonight,” said Nikolaj Ehlers, who had a goal and assist. “Wasn’t beautiful all the way through, but we got it done and that’s what’s important.”
Winnipeg (51-24-6) also stretched its win streak to seven in front of its eighth sold-out crowd of the season at Canada Life Centre.
Toffoli took a pass from Ehlers during a power play and sent a backhand shot past Seattle goalie Philipp Grubauerwith 8:20 remaining in the third period.

“Nice to get that out of the way in this game,” Connor said of securing home-ice advantage. “I thought we stuck with it, you know, ups and downs in the game.”
Connor’s pair of markers extended his point streak to eight games, including four goals and eight assists.
“I see him skating really well at both ends of the ice. He really is,” Jets coach Rick Bowness said of Connor. “That tells you that he’s engaged in the game. There have been some great back checks.”
“I think it doesn’t matter who we’re playing, we’ve got to bring that every night,” Kartye said. “It’s a good team over there and it was a pretty good effort by us.”
Grubauer stopped 20 shots for Seattle, which lost its fourth game in a row and concludes its playoff-less season Thursday in Minnesota against the Wild.
“Our entire team fought hard tonight,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “Regardless of anything else, we’re in a situation where we’ve dug out of a two-goal deficit, got ourselves back to even.
“We take a careless penalty and that’s the difference in a hockey game like this. We did a heck of a job for the first minute and 50 of the kill, but they found a spot inside and found the game-winner on that.”
The Jets had veteran forward Nino Niederreiterback on the ice after he missed the past five games because of skate cut that nicked his Achilles tendon.
Winnipeg forward Morgan Barronleft the game in the first period and didn’t return because of a lower-body injury. Bowness said he’ll be evaluated more.

“I thought we played really well. We generated some good looks,” Daccord said. “Their goalie made some good saves. It was a pretty good effort from our group tonight.”
The Blues, who were eliminated from the postseason on Friday, improved to 43-33-5 with one regular-season game remaining.
“Obviously after last game, when we’re out of the playoffs, it’s tough, right? You can’t really regroup from that in like two days," Kyrou said. "We’ve been working all year trying to make that. It's tough not being able to make the playoffs.”
St. Louis went 7-0-0 in Sunday games this season, the most wins without a loss in Sunday contests. The Blues are 7-2 against Seattle since the expansion team joined the league in 2021-22.
Seattle, which has two games remaining, fell to 33-34-13.

“We had good energy and we started the game well,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We gave up that late goal in the first period and that gave them a bit of energy. They got the early one there in the third. That obviously set the tone for the
third there.”
Kyrou put St. Louis up 2-1 with his goal 59 seconds into the third period. Daccord made the save on a shot by Matthrew Kessel from the point before a long rebound went to Kyrou in the slot. It was the 31st goal for Kyrou, who has 10 goals and
seven assists in his last 12 games.
Schenn added the insurance goal at 16:37, scoring off Daccord’s skate for his 20th this season.
Walker scored an unassisted empty-net goal at 19:00.

McCann took the puck from Marco Scandellaat the St. Louis blue line, raced down right side and snapped the puck by Hofer, scoring unassisted at 14:24. It was his second goal since March 5, and 29th of the season.
“Scoring 30 goals, it doesn’t mean anything,” McCann said. “It’s obviously great scoring goals, but I want to be in the playoffs. I want to play for something.”
Kapanen scored on a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle at 18:18. His shot hit Daccord’s arm and trickled in for the goal, tying it at 1.
“I feel like throughout the year I probably would have pulled up and tried to make a pass or something else,” Kapanen said. “So I thought I’d try shooting it for a change and it went in.”

SEATTLE -- — Devin Cooleyis trying not to get wrapped up in the success of his past two starts. It's difficult with how impressive they've been.
The Sharks spoiled Seattle’s final home game of the season, taking advantage of two defensive breakdowns by the Kraken just 51 seconds apart and a terrific performance by Cooley.
“It has been amazing. I’m just trying to keep myself grounded and not get too excited. Obviously, this league can humble you pretty quick,” Cooley said. “I’m just taking it one day at a time, one save at a time. Really trying to stay in the present
moment, not get too excited, not get too happy. But sometimes that’s hard, especially the way this month has gone.”
Cooley, who made his debut for the Sharks last month, is a Bay Area native and the first California-born goalie to start for San Jose. He made 34 saves in his last start against St. Louis to pick up his first career victory.
He was even better against Seattle.
Devin Cooley Robs Kraken with Save
Cooley already had 33 saves after two periods, turning away flurries of chances by the Kraken around the San Jose net. In the third period, he made terrific stops on Jaden Schwartzon a power play and Adam Larssonwith an extra attacker on the
ice and two defenders hobbling after blocking shots. Shane Wrightalso hit the post in the third period.
“Our goalie was outstanding and there’s not much more to talk about,” San Jose coach David Quinn said.
Burroughs snapped a 1-1 tie with his second goal of the season, finishing William Eklund’s pass on an odd-man rush at 14:46 of the second period. Less than a minute later, Seattle’s defense lost track of Zetterlund as he flashed in front of the net.
His redirection of Mikael Granlund’s pass slipped under the arm of Kraken goalie Joey Daccord, who finished with 20 saves. It was Zetterlund’s 22nd goal.

than 60 other games this season.

“We had a lot of zone time. Obviously their goalie played really well. There were pucks there, there were tips," Schwartz said. "We made a couple of mistakes there in the second and were down 3-1 and then we were chasing a little bit.”
Seattle finished 17-18-6 at home, but it was a disappointing conclusion to the home schedule and the Kraken failed to capitalize on the success of last season when they made the second round of the playoffs in their second year of existence.

AHL Call-Up Shane Wright Scores 4th Goal in 4 Games, Sparks Kraken to 5-0 Win over Coyotes
Arizona Coyotes vs. Seattle Kraken: Game Highlights
SEATTLE -- — With the Seattle Krakenout of playoff contention, the final stretch means a focus on young players that could be contributors in the future.
Splendid Night in The Deep
Practice Makes Perfect🐟
That means a lot of attention on Shane Wright, and so far he's thriving with it.
Wright scored 68 seconds into the first period for his fourth goal in four games since being called up from the AHL, Philipp Grubauermade 39 saves for his second shutout of the season, and the Seattle Kraken beat the Arizona Coyotes5-0 on Tuesday night.
But with the playoffs no longer possible for Seattle, most of the attention has shifted to its young players called up from Coachella Valley of the AHL and specifically Wright, who won’t turn 21 until early next year.
Seattle’s first-round pick in 2022 had 20 goals in 53 games in the AHL this season and has immediately carried that production into his limited stint with the Kraken. Wright had the first three-point game of his career in a 3-1 win over Anaheim on Friday and needed a little more than a
minute to get on the scoresheet against Arizona.
“He just turned 20 years old and everybody wants to spin the clock ahead and fast forward. It doesn’t work that way," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "So huge compliments to Shane in the way he’s continued to elevate his game.”
Wright collected a pass from Jordan Eberlenear the goal line and flipped a backhanded shot that caught Arizona goalie Karel Vejmelkaoff guard and caromed into the net.

“I’ll take anything, any way I can get them. They all count the same on the scoresheet, that’s what I’m going to say,” Wright said. “Just tried to get it on net there and a lucky bounce for sure but we’ll take it.”
Burakovsky scored on the power play 66 seconds after Wright’s goal, his fifth power-play goal of the season — a career-high. Schultz added his seventh of the season early in the third period, finishing off a two-on-one pass from Oliver Bjorkstrand.
Tanev and Borgen scored in the third period, ending long goal droughts. Tanev had just one goal since late January, while Borgen hadn’t scored since mid-February.
Bjorkstrand and Matty Beniershad two assists apiece.
Justin Schultz
Justin Schultz Scores Goal for Kraken
Grubauer’s shutout was his second of the season after blanking Pittsburgh in late February, when Seattle still had playoff aspirations, and 22nd of his career. He was especially good in second period, stopping 18 shots, including several dangerous opportunities. He made a pair of stops
on Alex Kerfootin the final minute to preserve the shutout.
“It means a lot. We don't have too many home games left so we want to make sure we finish this homestand off strong,” Grubauer said.
Arizona was shut out for the second time this season, the last coming in the third game of the season in a 1-0 loss to the New York Islandersin October.

“He was a confident player tonight. I thought he was a confident player with the puck and he definitely did a good job on the defensive side as well,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said.

Leo Carlssonscored for Anaheim with a highlight-reel goal. Carlsson, the second pick in the 2023 draft, became the 15th rookie in the league this season with at least 10 goals. Lukas Dostalmade 24 saves.
“From where I stood on the bench, it was Leo Carlsson and then a huge gap to the rest of the Anaheim Ducks tonight,” coach Greg Cronin said. “We didn’t do much. We didn’t generate much. He was one guy that I felt that tried to make something happen every play.”

Wright redirected Bjorkstrand's shot with 3:52 remaining in the first period. Wright then got a pass from Jaden Schwartzin front and put a snap shot into the net 2:29 into the second.
“It was a great pass. It couldn’t have been a better spot for me and all I did was finish it there,” Wright said.
The Kraken took a three-goal lead nine minutes later when Beniers scored a power-play goal as the puck deflected off his skate after a pass from Wright.
Carlsson got the Ducks on the board with 3:25 remaining in the second. The 19-year-old Swede, playing in his 50th NHL game, took the puck off the boards, put it between his legs onto his stick, skated into the right faceoff circle and wired a wrist shot into the top corner of the far side

Adrian Kempe Notches Goal on the Power Play
The Thousand Oaks native improbably leads Los Angeles this season with 29 goals. That’s 12 more than Moore's previous career high and more than all of his elite offensive teammates.
“It feels vindicating, I guess," Moore said. “But most importantly, it just feels good to be able to play as many games as I have so far this year. Hopefully all 82.”
Pierre-Luc Duboishad three assists for the Kings, who are three points behind Vegas for third in the Pacific. Just one of Los Angeles' final seven regular-season opponents is currently in a playoff position.
“When you’re not feeling great because you didn’t get those points (on the road), you’re a little bit worried how you are going to come out and play," Kings coach Jim Hiller said. "I thought our guys were composed. They came out believing in themselves, played hard to a man, and got
the result they wanted.”
Brian Dumoulin Scores Goal vs. Kings
Andre Burakovskyand Brian Dumoulinscored in the third period for the Kraken, who will miss the playoffs for the second time in their three seasons of existence.
Philipp Grubauerstopped 22 shots for Seattle, which won 46 games and made its postseason debut last year as a wild card before stunning Central Division champion Colorado in the first round. But the Kraken have only 31 victories this season with seven games to play.
“We’re playing for other things here,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We’re disappointed with the outcome today. We left some of our effort on the table. I don’t think our effort was poor, but we left too much in the tank here today. You have to evaluate it for what it is, both individually
and collectively. It’s good to be able to come out and have a push in the third, but that needed to start at the start of the hockey game today, and that’s where we fell short.”
Kempe put the Kings ahead on a power play midway through the first period with with a quick wrist shot in the slot off a pass from Viktor Arvidssonfor his 24th goal.
Kevin Fiala Nets Goal for Kings
Moore scored in the second when he redirected a long shot by Matt Roy. Dubois then found Moore driving the net just over four minutes later, and Moore scored on his own rebound when Grubauer couldn't corral the puck under pressure from Arvidsson.
Burakovsky scored Seattle's first goal on Oliver Bjorkstrand's cross-crease pass during a power play midway through the third.
Fiala scored his 26th goal with 9:15 to play on a breakaway created by Blake Lizotte's diving stick deflection of Will Borgen's attempted slap shot, but Dumoulin ended his 25-game goal drought just 35 seconds later to keep it close.
"when u realize u got caught"
“Whenever you play a team like LA, you can’t give them anything easy, and we did that tonight,” Dumoulin said. “They didn’t have to work for their chances, and they capitalized on the opportunities that they got. ... Just obviously a couple of turnovers, a couple of breakaways. Just little
details. They’re a good team, and when they get chances, they’re going to score.”
Kings forward Phillip Danault, who normally centers Moore's line, missed his third straight game with an upper-body injury. Moore moved onto a line with Dubois in his absence.

“You have to be engaged physically if you’re going to give yourself a chance, and we weren’t anything like that in the first 20 minutes,” San Jose coach David Quinn said. “It got better in the last 40, but not to the level that we need it to be.”
Beniers started the scoring 29 seconds into the first period, giving him goals in three straight games.
Jared McCann Scores Goal vs. Sharks
“That’s a good way to start the hockey game, especially in this building,” Hakstol said. “We’ve had a couple of nights where we’ve had trouble scoring in here. So that was a good way to get off to a good, positive start.”
Tye Kartyeappeared to score Seattle’s second goal a few minutes later, but the Sharks successfully challenged that the play was offside.
Bjorkstrand then made it 2-0 with 8:34 left in the first period.

Zetterlund answered for the Sharks less than three minutes later on the power play, scoring his 21st goal of the year.
The Kraken regained their two-goal lead late in the first when Wright, recalled from Coachella Valley of the AHL earlier Monday, scored his first goal of the season, and the second of his career.
“Definitely felt comfortable out there,” Wright said. “Definitely felt like I belong out there. Obviously, playing with (Jaden Schwartzand Jordan Eberle) too, it’s pretty easy playing with two guys like that.”
Klim Kostin Lights the Lamp
Kostin brought San Jose back within one at 5:01 of the second period when he deflected Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s point shot past Grubauer.
“All year, I think our resilience is something that we pride ourselves on,” Sharks defenseman Kyle Burroughssaid. “Being able to climb back and never say die and keep fighting.”
The score remained 3-2 until the final seconds of the game, when McCann scored an empty-netter for his 28th goal of the year.

SEATTLE -- — Wyatt Johnson had a goal and an assist, Jake Oettingerstopped 17 shots for his second shutout of the season and the Dallas Starsbeat the Seattle Kraken3-0 on Saturday night for their seventh straight win.
Joe Pavelskiand Roope Hintzalso scored to help the Stars remain on top of the Central Division and Western Conference Standings, three points up on Colorado. Dallas, which clinched its third straight playoff berth with win over Vancouver two nights earlier, trails theNew York
Rangersby one point in the race for the Presidents' Trophy.
Joe Pavelski Nets Power-Play Goal
“You want to be playing well right now and winning games,” Pavelski said. “And you have to string them together. You can win a bunch of games and it feels like you make up no ground. The focus is just keep winning — keep doing it the right way and keep building our game toward the
playoffs and make sure we’re ready.”
Oettinger got his ninth career shutout and improved to 30-13-4 on the season.
“He’s been awesome,” Johnson said. “It gives you a lot of confidence when he’s playing like that. He’s been huge. He’s been huge all year.”
Roope Hintz Nets Goal for Stars
Joey Daccordfinished with 27 saves for the Kraken, who had won two straight after eight consecutive losses. Seattle will finish the regular season as the only NHL team winless at home on Saturdays.
“In terms of effort, the effort was definitely there,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “Are they a good opponent? Absolutely. They’re fighting for the Presidents’ Trophy for a reason. It’s still disappointing to walk away with a loss. Not disappointed in the effort, but we’re here to win.”
Johnston scored with 1:48 remaining in the second period to give Dallas a 1-0 lead.
Tye Kartye is quickly becoming an effective pest. He delivered a big hit on Jason Robertson that seemed to get under his skin.
“We stayed patient and we found a goal,” Pavelski said. “It came. We didn’t cheat for it. When we found that one, our game seemed to get a little bit better.”
Adam Larssonwas assessed a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct early in the third period. Pavelski then increased the lead with a power-play goal 26 seconds into the third period. Seattle hadn’t allowed a power-play goal in four games before Saturday, going 8 for 8 on
the penalty kill during that span.
Wyatt Johnston Scores Goal for Stars
“We kept it close,” Seattle’s Oliver Bjorkstrandsaid. “It’s just a matter of us pushing the tempo and trying to create chances. They’re a hard team to play against. They play well defensively. I think maybe we just need to get more shots through and a little bit more traffic.”
Hintz scored an empty netter with 1:17 left to seal the win.

SEATTLE -- — Tye Kartyescored the go-ahead goal with 6:57 left in the third period and the Seattle Krakenrallied to beat the Anaheim Ducks4-2 on Thursday night to sweep a two-game set.
“It’s how you answer,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “And our power play answered.
Tye Kartye lights the lamp
“Obviously to give up the sloppy goals back to back that we did, that can be catastrophic in a game. Fortunately for us, we had another opportunity coming. And those guys were able to capitalize and get one back.”
Jakob Silfverberg Scores short-handed Goal vs. Kraken
Anaheim committed 12 penalties, including eight in the third period. Seattle capitalized by going 3 for 10 on the power play, matching a season high in power-play goals.
“I think the work ethic was there, but we kind of take ourselves out of the game by taking way too many penalties,” Silfverberg said. “We have a 2-1 game, and then we just have a parade going to the box.”
Burakovsky tied the game at 2-2 with a power-play goal 6:25 into the third. His shot from the point deflected off the stick of Anaheim’s Frank Vatrano and got past Dostal.
Kartye gave Seattle the lead six minutes later, zipping a shot from the point that got through Dostal. It was his first goal since Jan. 13, ending a 25-game streak without a goal.
“He’s had some good opportunities if you look over the last few games here, but too many pucks were missing the net,” Hakstol said. “Tonight he got it, shot it and put it on net. And good things happen when you do that.”
Beniers added another power-play goal with 4:25 remaining, scoring his 12th of the season to make it 4-2.
Matty Beniers Nets Power-Play Goal
Seattle broke a scoreless tie 9:03 into the second when Jordan Eberle’s point-blank rebound shot deflected off Schwartz’s stick for a power-play goal. Schwartz was credited with his 13th goal of the season and Eberle picked up his 400th career assist.
Anaheim surged in front early in the third period when Lundestrom and Silfverberg netted their short-handed goals just 44 seconds apart.
Lundestrom received a pass from Silfverberg on a partial breakaway and fired past Grubauer to tie the game at 2:08.
Just moments later, Silfverberg came up with a loose puck in the neutral zone and fired a breakaway shot. Grubauer made the save, but Silfverberg slotted home the rebound for a 2-1 lead at 2:52.
It was the first time Anaheim had scored multiple short-handed goals in a game since October 2016.

Matty Beniers and Eeli Tolvanen each recorded three points (one goal, two assists) in tonight's game. Beniers now has 14 points (four goals, 10 assists) in six career games against the Ducks, recording multi-point efforts in each of those six games.

SEATTLE -- — Eeli Tolvanan and Matty Benierseach had a goal and an assist, and the Seattle Krakenhalted an eight-game losing streak by beating the Anaheim Ducks4-0 on Tuesday night.
Jordan Eberleand Oliver Bjorkstrandalso scored for Seattle (29-29-13). Eberle’s goal was the 299th of his career and 17th this season.
Joey Daccordmade 12 saves in his third shutout for the Kraken, who went 0-6-2 in the previous eight games — seriously dimming their playoff hopes. Seattle also went 0-6-2 from Nov. 24 to Dec. 10 this season.
Matty Beniers Nets Goal for Kraken
Matty Beniers
“It’s obviously not been going our way for the last bit or so. It was a good feeling for everyone to get a good win under our belt,” said Beniers, whose two assists gave him 20 this season. “Not getting those wins, it kind of builds up. Each loss, you lose a little bit of confidence personally and as a team.
“Getting one win is so big for getting confidence and breaking that streak and being able to move forward,” he added.
The Ducks (24-44-4), already eliminated from playoff contention, lost for the ninth time in 10 games.
“You could tell they were just hungrier than we were,” Ducks winger Troy Terrysaid. “It’s unacceptable to start the game like that. Whatever the reasons were, I just thought they kind of jumped out early and kind of dictated the game, which led to us taking too many penalties because
they had the puck. Once you kind of get in that cycle, it’s hard to break out of.”
Tolvanan put the Kraken up 1-0 at 7:50 of the first period. Beniers dug out the puck from behind the net and found Tolvanen at the top of the crease, and he scooped it past Gibson.
Eberle scored on the power play at 16:51, firing a shallow shot that deflected off Gibson’s stick and behind him into the other side of the net.
Jordan Eberle Capitalizes on the Power Play
That marked the first time in four games the Kraken managed more than one goal. Their previous multi-goal game was a 6-2 home loss to Buffalo on March 18.
Bjorkstrand scored on a power play at 5:08 of the second. Beniers made it 4-0 at the 15:55 mark, as he and Tolvanen converted a 2-on-1 into Beniers’ 11th goal of the season.
Beniers, Tolvanen and Bjorkstrand have been together on Seattle’s top line since mid-March.
“He’s just a really smart player. He does a really good job of reading the play and reading off me and Ollie and being in good spots,” Beniers said about Tolvanen. “And you saw tonight he makes that play back to me, and he’s got the brains for that.”
Kraken coach Dave Hakstol, who lit into his team’s effort after Sunday’s 5-1 loss to Montreal, was much more pleased with what he saw against Anaheim.
Eeli Tolvanen Scores Goal vs. Ducks
“That’s what winning does, right? There’s only one way to get to that feeling, and you have to do the work,” he said. “You’ve got to grind through. I mean, it’s been a long haul here over the last seven to 10 days.”
On Tuesday, it was Ducks coach Greg Cronin tearing into his team.
“They kicked the (crap) out of us — simple as that,” he said. “They wanted the puck more, they outskated us, and they won all the puck battles. We stood around and watched. It was completely unacceptable.”

off like this because of what is still on the line. Every time you put this jersey on it means a lot, and right now we’re not portraying that out on the ice.”
Montreal got the first goal about four minutes in when a long shot from Guhle made it through traffic in the front of the net. Another shot from Guhle just over two minutes later was deflected in by Newhook.
The Canadiens got another quick pair toward the end of the first period. With 2:27 left, Suzuki led a two-on-one break and put the puck over Grubauer’s right shoulder.
Newhook gave Montreal a 4-0 lead 27 seconds later, knocking Grubauer out of the game.
“It was a good game right from the start,” Primeau said. “It’s always good when you’re leading instead of chasing.”

Mike Matheson Scores short-handed Goal vs. Kraken
The Kraken got on the board in the first minute of the second period on Eberle’s shot from the right circle. Seattle thought it had another goal five minutes into the period on a power play, but the score was called off after a challenge showed the Kraken had been offside.
Montreal added a fifth with about seven minutes left in the second period on Matheson’s short-handed goal.
Newhook nearly picked up his first career hat trick midway through the second period, but the shot bounced off the post.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- — Dylan Guenther scored on a breakaway at 4:12 of overtime to give the Arizona Coyotesa 2-1 victory over Seattle on Friday night, the Kraken's seventh straight loss.
Guenther put a wrist shot over former Arizona State goalie Joey Daccord’s glove. The 20-year-old Guenther has 11 goals in 33 games since being recalled from the minors.
“He brings a lot to the game — competitiveness, pace, execution,” Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. “Really good defensively, really good stick. He wants to win. He has that fire in his eyes.”
Clayton Kellertied it for Arizona with 1:08 left in the regulation with his 29th goal. He put in a rebound of a shot from Nick Bjugstadon a 3-on-3 break.
“We were our own worst enemy on the tying goal,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “We just misplayed the three-on-three. Certainly we’d like to play that differently."
Clayton Keller Scores Goal for Coyotes
Karel Vejmelkamade 27 saves for the Coyotes in the first of seven straight home games. They have split their last four games but have lost 19 of 25.
“It was a different game than usual,” Vejmelka said. “We were waiting for a goal for a long time. We had a great comeback. The boys in front of me did a great job. They blocked a ton of shots again.”
Kraken rookie Ryker Evansscored his first career goal to open the scoring at 7:40 of the third period, beating Vejmelka with a wrist shot from a severe angle in the left circle. He had seven assists in his previous 23 games.

“Obviously, it took a little bit, but it was good to get the first one out of the way,” Evans said. “It was pretty cool. Hopefully, the confidence keeps building and I can play my way.”
The Kraken, 29th in the NHL in scoring, have only 10 goals in the last seven games. They gave up two goals in the final 1:20 in a 3-1 loss at Vegas on Thursday night.
Seattle had only one shot on its three power-play opportunities after having one power-play goal in each of the previous four games.
“Lethargic,” Hakstol said. “Bottom line, we're in excellent position to win this hockey game. That's a game we should have been able to close out.”
Daccord made 19 saves at 4,400-seat Mullett Arena on the Arizona State campus. Daccord played for the Sun Devils before Mullett opened.

Arizona forward Michael Carconehad an apparent tying goal disallowed midway through the third. A video review showed that Carcone kicked the puck into the net from right out in front.
“We want to work on playing those type of games, staying with it, being resilient,” Tourigny said.
The Coyotes plan to alternate Vejmelka and Connor Ingramin net the rest of the season, Tourigny said.
“I see a guy who is competing really hard, who is really quick in the net, who is making key saves, who is giving us a chance every night” Tourigny said about Vejmelka. “He has that fire.”

Kraken Rally, But VGK Scores Late
Philipp Grubauer keeps Seattle close enough for Jaden Schwartz to tie the game in the third period, but a former local WHL hero wins it for Vegas
The Kraken and Vegas wore their commemorative Winter Classic jerseys Thursday, but the result wasn’t nearly as satisfying as New Year’s Day. Vegas downed Seattle, 3-1, on the first night of a back-to-back road trip that relocates to Tempe, AZ, to face the Coyotes Friday.
Down 1-0 after two periods, the Kraken rallied with a Jaden Schwartz tip-in goal off a shot from rookie Ryker Evans to tie matters later in the third period when most fans here in Vegas were suddenly worrying about their team’s slim lead in the Western Conference wild-card standings.
But the Vegas fourth line delivered with 80 seconds remaining when the home squad needed it most, with Brett Howden driving the net and former Seattle Thunderbirds star ramming in the loose puck in front of Philipp Grubauer, whose night’s performance deserved better than falling to
another last-game score from division rival Vegas.
Keegan Kolesar puts Golden Knights ahead with 80 seconds left
The Kraken challenged the Kolesar goal for possible offside, which was apparently too close to call for the Situation Room back in Toronto, so the goal stood. Post-game, Dave Hakstol said he thought the play was offside (“really close, tight play”) and he would make the same call again.
Even with a penalty for delay of game, Seattle almost managed to send the game to overtime when a Jared McCann pass net-front just eluded Matty Beniers in front of a gaping net. Vegas bagged an empty-net goal seconds later.
Seattle finished the night 13 points behind Vegas, which remains in the second wild-card spot, while St. Louis kept pace by winning in Ottawa, staying four points back. Nashville shut out high-flying Florida and are now 18 points ahead of Seattle in the wild-card standings.
“Our effort was good,” said Hakstol. “We battled really hard all night, fought back to tie the game up, stayed with it on the powerplay in order to do that. The effort from start to finish was complete.”
Golden Knights Edge Kraken on Kolesar's Late Goal
Eichel Strikes Again
Last seen by Kraken fans scoring an overtime game-winning goal during the recent homestand at Climate Pledge Arena, Vegas center Jack Eichel opened the scoring by getting net-front and staying there during a behind-the-net move by Vegas’ Jonathan Marchessault with Kraken
starting goalie Philipp Grubauer sliding side to side. Grubauer stopped Marchessault’s original shot, with the VGK forward retrieving the puck and sending it back toward the crease, where Eichel finished the scoring play.
Chandler Stephenson Wraps up Golden Knights' Win with an Empty-Netter
Grubauer Keeps It Close
Despite the clunky Vegas goal that bounded off the back of Philipp Grubauer’s leg, the Kraken goaltender was stellar in the first 40 minutes and a big reason why Seattle entered the second intermission only down 1-0. Grubauer faced 10 Grade-A scoring chances (five in each period, per
Natural Stat Trick) and his play elicited a couple, three head-shakes from Vegas forwards in disbelief that their close-in shots did not get past Grubauer. Vegas notched 11 shots on goal in the first period and another dozen in Period 2 with a particularly impressive series of saves on late
second-period power plays. Eichel logged six shots over the two frames, and Marchessault added three more. Grubauer made 34 saves.
Kraken veteran forward Jaden Schwartz last played March 8, leaving the game in a home loss to Winnipeg after playing a vital role in beating those same Jets two nights earlier. He’s been missed by his teammates, coaches, and fans who appreciate Schwartz’s little plays that often turn
into big goals.
The alternate captain proved the point with an exclamation mark, scoring with six-and-a-half minutes left in the third period, tipping in a timely and accurate spinning shot from rookie Ryker Evans at the right point. Schwartz showed plenty of emotion, given the team’s record during his
four games out with injury and that Feb. 19 was the last time he scored a goal.
Jaden Schwartz Brings Kraken Even with a Power-Play Goal
“It was a back-and-forth game,” said Schwartz after the game. “Both goalies played good; it could have gone either way. It would have been nice to take that in overtime. But I thought we did a lot of good things, the energy was good. We worked hard.”
Schwartz talked Wednesday morning about his disappointment in not being able to contribute during a homestand that ended with a 0-4-1.
“Obviously, not being where we want to be in the standings, it’s frustrating,” said Schwartz. “It's not ideal, and consistency is something you need over such a long schedule. We had that one big winning streak [11-0-2], but we haven't been able to rattle off many winning streaks. I think
our effort’s there a lot of nights. There's obviously been a couple games [with lesser effort over 60 minutes) but execution and a couple of little mistakes [in games] have ended up biting us.”

The three-goal barrage came after Jordan Eberlegave the Kraken a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the game — the third fastest-goal in team history. Matty Beniers scored on a power play late in the first but the Kraken lost their fifth straight game, all at home.
Daccord made four saves before being pulled. Phillip Grubauer came on and stopped 23 shots the rest of the way. With 68 points, Seattle is 11 out of a Western Conference playoff berth with 15 games remaining.
It was the second time in three weeks that Daccord was chased.
Pause, take a breath, & enjoy this Jordan Eberle Goal.
“No. 1, those are quality shots. The first goal against, with Thompson, I mean that’s just a hell of a shot, right?” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “But you get to a point where, even though they’re from pretty good areas, the second and the third ones are still pucks that I know, when
Joey’s on, he stops. He sees those and he makes those saves.”
Jeff Skinner Tallies Goal vs. Kraken
Just moments after Eberle put Seattle on top, Thompson tied it on a shot from just outside the top of the right circle that zipped past Daccord at the 49-second mark.
Skinner gave the Sabres a 2-1 lead at 3:56. Tuch’s shot from the top of the slot at 5:41 made it 3-1 and sent Daccord to the bench.
“I liked the response. I thought it was a great response,” Buffalo coach Don Granato said. “I thought our energy level was high, and whenever we play with a high energy level, we play well, and we did tonight. The response after giving up the goal really early, to respond really quick
after that was outstanding.”
Jeff Skinner Lights the Lamp
Skinner and Power scored 24 seconds apart midway through the second, boosting the margin to 5-2. Skinner capped his hat trick with 1:58 left in the game.
“He’s deadly. When’s he on, he can score and create plays and that’s a big burst of life for us, especially when we’ve been struggling to score,” Thompson said. “When he gets hot, he’s hot, and we need him to start feeling that and keep riding him. He does a good job of being positive
and making everyone in a good mood. And now that he’s playing like that, he’s going to be even better.”

Predators Extend points Streak to 14 Games with a 4-1 Win over Kraken
Nashville Predators vs. Seattle Kraken: Game Highlights
So much for some early St Paddy’s day luck
By AP
SEATTLE -- — Throughout its current points streak, different stars for Nashville have taken their turns carrying the Predators on a given night.
“It's the reason, in my opinion, why he's the world's best defenseman," Nashville coach Andrew Brunette said. "He just does stuff like he did today and takes over games.”
Josi scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the third period, Filip Forsbergscored his 35th of the season into an empty net with 1:20 left and the Predators extended their points streak to 14 games with a 4-1 win over theSeattle Krakenon Saturday night.
The streak is tied for the second-longest in franchise history, equaling a 14-game run during the 2015-16 season. Nashville earned points in 15 straight during the 2017-18 season, a stretch during which it went 14-0-1.
Filip Forsberg Scores Goal vs. Kraken
The Predators are 12-0-2 during this stretch and strengthened their hold on the top wild-card spot in the Western Conference.
“The points streak is awesome because you need the points, but just the way we’ve been playing, it’s a lot of fun,” Josi said. “I feel like every night we’re working really hard, we’re playing fast and it’s like every guy.”
Josi snapped a 1-1 tie when he scored 9 seconds into a Nashville power play at 3:59 of the period. Josi’s second goal came off an offensive zone faceoff and his slap shot from the blue line beat Seattle'sPhilipp Grubauer, who was screened on the play.
It was Josi’s second multi-goal game in the last few weeks after he netted a pair in a win over Ottawa that was the sixth game as part of Nashville’s points streak.
Tommy Novakalso scored his 14th of the season in the first period off a fortunate bounce when his pass hit the skate of Seattle defenseman Justin Schultzand slipped past Grubauer. Mark Jankowskiand Ryan McDonaghboth had two assists.
Roman Josi Capitalizes on the Power Play
Seattle lost its fourth straight – all at home -- and may have officially fallen off the fringes of the chase for a wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Grubauer made 26 saves and Andre Burakovsky scored Seattle’s lone goal in the final seconds of a power play early in the third period.
But that was all Seattle could manage as it remained nine points behind Vegas with 16 games left.

“The last couple of games obviously haven't been going our way. But I think we just have to keep putting our foot forward. We're still fighting over here,” Seattle forwardKailer Yamamotosaid.
Nashville'sJuuse Sarosappeared vulnerable early, but Seattle was unable to convert a couple of good chances in the opening minutes, including defenseman Jamie Oleksiakhitting the post. But the Predators did a good job defensively in limiting Seattle’s scoring chances and Saros made
the key stops when needed.
Saros finished with 22 saves.
Seattle was without top defenseman Vince Dunn for the fifth straight game and forward Jaden Schwartzmissed his third in a row. Both have upper body injuries.

Connor McMichael Scores on a Breakaway in 3rd period to give Capitals a 2-1 Win over Kraken
Washington Capitals vs. Seattle Kraken | 3/14 Game Highlights
Hoping pi day distracts y'all from the score..
By AP
SEATTLE -- — Connor McMichaelscored on a breakaway with 8:24 left in the game and the Washington Capitalsgained ground in their bid for a playoff spot by beating the Seattle Kraken2-1 on Thursday night.
T.J. Oshie, playing in his 999th NHL game, also scored for the Capitals. Washington, now with 71 points, is one point behind the New York Islandersand Detroit for the East’s second wild-card spot. Both of those teams lost on Thursday and remain with 72 points.
Washington had lost the first two games of its Western trip, 3-0 at Winnipeg on Monday and 7-2 at Edmonton on Wednesday.
“That was a huge win for us. It’s pretty crazy to think about it,” McMichael said. “The last two games didn’t go how we wanted to at all. This was a huge response for us. We’ll just focus on one game at a time.”

Oliver Bjorkstrandscored for the Kraken, who have 68 points and remain nine behind Vegas for the West’s second wild-card berth.
With the game tied at 1-1, Bjorkstrand gave the puck away in his own end to McMichael, who took it down the right wing side. He beat Seattle goalieJoey Daccordwith a backhander to the opposite corner, his 14th of the season.
“I’m kind of pretty familiar with (Daccord) from last year,” McMichael said. “He plays pretty aggressive to the shooter and likes to challenge. I just wanted to throw a little fake shot and beat him to the post.’’
Capitals coach Spencer Carbery said games are often decided on something like that.

Tonight marks Andre Burakovsky’s 600th @NHLgame. Congrats, Andre!
“You know it’s going to come down to there’s going to be a situation where someone’s going to crack, someone’s going to make a mistake,” he said. “Whether it’s special teams or ends up being a breakaway where there’s a little bit of a bobble where there’s some sustained pressure.
Next thing you know, the puck turns over, Mikey steps up and scored a huge goal.”
Kraken coach Dave Hakstol concurred.
“We just made two mistakes. I’m not going to sugarcoat it, I’m not going to make more of it than it is,” Hakstol said. “We made two mistakes, and on a night like tonight, those are two mistakes, obviously, that we don’t want to make.”
Oshie, a native of nearby Everett, was in the right place at the right time to give Washington a 1-0 lead at 14:20 of the second period.
Kraken Concede Ugly Goal after Joey Daccord's not top-10 Moment
With their ‘backs against the wall,’ Capitals seize the moment in Seattle
With Seattle short-handed, Daccord tried to fire the puck down the ice. It hit Oshie, who was playing low in the slot on the right side. The puck went back toward the net, deflecting off Daccord’s outstretched stick. Oshie rushed toward the open goal and extended his stick toward the
puck as it trickled in.
“Those are kind of the ones you dream about. I don’t feel like the puck has been finding me too much these first couple games,” Oshie said.
Daccord finished with 21 saves.
Bjorkstrand tied it 1-1 for the Kraken with a power-play goal at 3:32 of the third period.Yanni Gourdepicked up a loose puck in a scrum behind the net, found Bjorkstrand wide open midway up the left faceoff circle, and Bjorkstrand fired into the right corner.
The Kraken have not been at their best coming back from second-intermission deficits this season. But that trend took an encouraging turn for the better here at Climate Pledge Arena Tuesday night. Matty Beniers and Brandon Tanev scored to wipe out a Vegas lead in the first five-and-a-
half minutes of the third period.
Oliver Bjorkstrand’s stretch-pass score, a third straight goal in the final stanza, proved to be an entirely necessary goal when Vegas center William Karlsson scored less than a minute after Bjorkstrand’s. 17th goal of the season to make it 4-3 Kraken. Seattle looked to be riding out the
final seven-and-a-half minutes to post the regulation win, but Jonathan Marchessault scored his second goal of the night and 37th of the year with 16.3 seconds remaining.
“A big part is we gave up the goal right after going up by two,” said SEA coach Dave Hakstol about the lead evaporating. There's a couple opportunities [on the third Vegas goal] to take care of a puck. One is actually in the offensive zone, just to get a little bit of grind time. The other
opportunity is to take care of the puck, get out of the zone. That obviously changes the complexion of the last seven minutes.
“But we're still in a position to close that game out ... we needed one more little share underneath at the goal line or one more guy underneath on the triangle. They fling a puck to the net and make a good play to get that puck to the weak side [to an unchecked Marchessault].
In overtime, Vegas completed its own comeback with a third straight goal, this one from Jack Eichel, his 20th on the season with three minutes gone in extra time. The Kraken finished the night nine standings points behind Vegas for the second wild-card playoff spot in the Western
Conference. Washington is in town Thursday and then West wild-card leader Nashville visits Saturday.
Hakstol said the sting of this overtime loss is not needed to motivate his squad that now has 18 games left to go on a run deserving of a wild-card bid: “We don't need fire. We don't need confidence. We've got that. Disappointed we didn't close the game out. I’ve said it all the way along.
No matter the result, we need everybody to walk out tonight, clear the deck. There's no time for anything but to get back to work tomorrow. We're back here in two nights."
Triple Threat in the Third Period
The decibels were mega-level when fan favorite and franchise cornerstone Matty Beniers redirected a shot from the right point by defenseman and housemate Will Borgen. It was Beniers’ ninth goal of the year and Borgen’s 21 assists of a career-high season.

Burakovsky, McCann Work New Chemistry
The Kraken opened the scoring in Tuesday’s showdown against Vegas with Andre Burakovsky’s third goal of the season stalled more than once to injury. The scoring play provided a glimpse at what the Kraken brain trust saw when signing the two-time Cup winner Burakovsky as a free
agent in the summer of 2022.
After a scoreless first period with the home squad generating three times more scoring chances than Vegas, a newly revised forward line of center Jared McCann between Burakovsky and rookie Tye Kartye got to work building a lead. Burakovsky, who had missed on a one-timer from the
left faceoff circle just seconds earlier, had moved to the right point. He took a pass from McCann, stationed behind the goal line in the left corner. Burakovsky skated a tight loop with Kartye tapping the puck but leaving the playmaking to his fellow winger.
Burakovsky patiently waited a beat, then sent a crisp pass to McCann. The Kraken leading scorer, continuing his stellar work in place of the traded Alex Wennberg, skated cross-ice then suddenly backhanded a drop pass to Burakovsky. Not surprised by the deft pass, even if this line was
formed over the weekend, Burakovsky took the feed and wristed it hard past Vegas goalie Adin Hill to build a 1-0 lead.
Jonathan Marchessault tallies Goal vs. Kraken
Vegas Doubles Up
The Kraken lead didn’t last long. Though not officially a response goal (scored within two minutes of the previous goal), the visitors executed a strong reply to the Burakovsky score. With Seattle D-man Brian Dumoulin in the penalty box, Vegas star winger Jonathan Marchessault scored
his 36th goal of the season on a deep-angle shot.
With 5:01 left in the middle period, centers William Karlsson and the aforementioned McCann tied each other up in the faceoff circle left of the Kraken goal. McCann came down hard enough to break off Karlsson’s stick blade. The puck squirted sideways and one second later, Vegas
forward Pavel Dorofeyev hacked at the puck, airmailing a shot that beat Philipp Grubauer on the glove side.

SEATTLE -- — The trade deadline arrived with the Winnipeg Jetsaddressing their need for a little more offensive punch before finishing the day showing just how strong they are defensively.
Laurent Brossoitmade 17 saves for his first shutout of the season, Mark Scheifelescored his 19th goal 7:15 into the third period and the Jets beat theSeattle Kraken3-0 on Friday night.
Adam Lowryscored with 8:32 left to give Winnipeg a 2-0 lead and the Jets pulled even with Dallas and Colorado at the top of the Central Division. Nikolaj Ehlershad an empty-netter with 49 seconds left.
“I think that’s where our team is learning how to win these tight games where we’re comfortable,” Lowry said. “We know we’re a great third period team. We know we’ve got the structure that we can be patient, kind of force some mistakes and that’s what we did in the third.”
Brossoit posted his fourth career shutout and first since February 2022 while playing for Vegas and he was rarely tested. Tomas Tatarhad Seattle’s two best scoring chances, hitting the post in the second period and sending a backhand wide early in the third.
Seattle was shut out for the sixth time.

Scheifele finally broke through after more than two periods with limited chances for both sides. Seattle’s Jared McCannwas unable to clear the zone at the blue line while pressured by Morrissey, and Vladislav Namestnikov quickly found Scheifele in front of Kraken goalieJoey Daccord.
Scheifele has a point in six of the Jets' last seven games.
Nikolaj Ehlers Tallies Goal vs. Kraken
Scheifele left the ice barely a minute later after getting called for tripping while stopping a breakaway attempt by Seattle’s Andre Burakovsky. Scheifele appeared to be clipped in the face by Burakovsky’s skate, but he returned late in the period.
Winnipeg coach Rick Bowness said Scheifele was checked for a concussion, but was cleared to return.
The win concluded a busy day for the Jets, who added Tyler Toffoliand Colin Millerfrom New Jersey in separate deals ahead of the trade deadline.
“Depth is critically important. Looking at how all the other teams in the West loaded up, we’re really excited with those adds,” Lowry said.
The loss was a deflating missed opportunity for Seattle to make up ground in the Western Conference playoff chase. The Kraken started the night six points behind Vegas with two games against the Golden Knights over the next two weeks.
Mark Scheifele Lights the Lamp for Jets
Daccord made 29 saves, but Seattle was unable to generate the offense it had a few days earlier in a 4-3 win over the Jets.

Andrei Kuzmenkoscored twice for Calgary, which snapped a five-game winning streak.Jacob Markstromfinished with 26 saves.
Kuzmenko has 13 goals on the season and five in 10 games since being acquired from Vancouver on Jan. 31 as part of the trade that sent Elias Lindholm to the Canucks.
After going more than two months between starts, missing a bulk of that due to a lower-body injury, Grubauer has been excellent since his return to the crease on Feb. 13, going 5-1-0 with a .943 save percentage.
“Grubby’s been good,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “Just the calmness that the provides. You can add up the big saves tonight at the right time.”
Andrei Kuzmenko Lights the Lamp
With Seattle up 3-1 after Larsson’s goal 21 seconds into the third period, Calgary cut the deficit in half on Kuzmenko’s second of the night at 7:46.
The Flames then got consecutive power plays in an attempt to pull even. However, after failing to score on the first, it was the Kraken that scored on the second.
McCann stripped the puck from Calgary's Rasmus Andersson, raced in on Markstrom, and scored short-handed for his team-leading 26th goal with 7:31 remaining.
“I was pretty gassed so I just tried to get the shot off quick,” said McCann. “I like to go low blocker but decided to change it up at the last second. He’s a big goalie, so I was able to find a spot.”
Calgary coach Ryan Huska didn’t blame Andersson, implying the pass back to him by Andrew Mangiapanemight have been to blame.
“I thought Raz got put in a tough spot up top,” Huska said. “Now he’s flat-footed with pressure coming out at him.”
Less than a minute later, Calgary rookie Martin Pospisilwas given a major and a game misconduct for drilling Seattle defenseman Vince Dunn into the end boards from behind. Visibly shaken up but leaving the ice on his own, Dunn went to the dressing room and didn’t return.
“Garbage,” Hakstol said when asked about the hit. “But not really a whole lot different than the first hit six or seven seconds into the game. You run around like that you probably need to answer when somebody comes to you man to man and that didn’t happen either.”

After a listless first period in which Calgary fell behind 1-0, the Flames were better in the second period, tying it at 7:50 on a crafty effort from Kuzmenko on the power play. The 28-year-old Russian faked going behind the net, prompting Grubauer to look over his other shoulder, only to
cut back and jam it inside the near post for his 100th career NHL point.
Seattle reclaimed the lead less than five minutes later when poor defensive coverage by Oliver Kylingtonleft Bjorkstrand open in the slot and he one-timed McCann’s centering pass behind Markstrom. Bjorkstrand’s third goal in the last four games gave him 16 on the season.
Seattle was the better team by a wide margin in the opening 20 minutes, outshooting the home side 11-2 and scoring the only goal.

Leon Draisaitl Scores his 30th Goal, Stuart Skinner makes 24 Saves as Oilers top Kraken 2-1
Edmonton Oilers vs. Seattle Kraken: Game Highlights
Stuart Skinnermade 24 saves and nearly posted his third shutout of the season as Edmonton won its third straight, kept the pressure on Vegas for second place in the Pacific Division and swept all four games in the season series with Seattle.
Edmonton has won six straight against the Kraken and is 9-2-0 against them since Seattle joined the NHL.
Draisaitl's goal came midway through the second period, but Kulak provided the winner 8:02 into the third period. Kulak’s shot from near the blue line appeared to take a slight deflection and beat Seattle goaliePhilipp Grubauer.
Kulak’s goal came after another big save from Skinner, who continued to be a problem the Kraken can’t solve. Skinner has won seven of his nine career starts against Seattle, including all four games this season.
Skinner got some luck early in the first period when Justin Schultz’s shot hit the post and stayed out. He was otherwise solid, making key saves on Jordan Eberleearly in the game, Tomas Tatarlate in the second period and a big stop on Seattle goal leaderJared McCannearly in the third.
Eeli Tolvanenscored his 15th of the season on a power play with 6:37 remaining to end Skinner’s shutout bid on a puck thrown to the front of the net and deflected past the Edmonton goalie.
Brett Kulak Lights the Lamp
Seattle had one final chance on a 6-on-4 opportunity with the net empty after Draisaitl was called for a penalty with 53 seconds left. However, Skinner made a series of big saves in the closing seconds, including another denial of Eberle to preserve the victory.
Grubauer made 24 saves for Seattle coming off his first shutout of the season two days earlier against Pittsburgh.
The regulation loss for Seattle could end up being the final blow in the Kraken’s attempts to stay in the Western Conference wild-card race and could lead to some moves by the Kraken ahead of next Friday’s trade deadline.

Grubauer was terrific for the second straight game and recorded the 21st regular-season shutout of his career. It was his first since April 7, 2022, against Chicago.
“It’s been a while for myself, but obviously it’s more important to get those points than to get the shutout. ... It’s huge for the team, too, because everybody played their part,” Grubauer said.
Seattle picked up a crucial two points in its attempt to stay relevant in the Western Conference wild-card race and with next week’s trade deadline drawing closer. The Kraken have won three of their last four and have points in six of their past seven games.
Pittsburgh had its three-game win streak snapped and remained seven points behind Philadelphia in the division race and eight points back of Tampa Bay for the wild card. The Penguins have games in hand over both teams and the chance to make up points, but the loss stemmed the
momentum gained after a comeback overtime victory in Vancouver earlier this week.
“I think this time of the year that’s what we have to go for; a lot of teams are playing defense a lot stiffer and I think you’re going to see a lot more lower scoring games just with how tight the conference and the divisions are,” said Pittsburgh's Tristan Jarry, who made 26 saves in the
loss.

Grubauer showed up in a big way earlier this week when Seattle topped Boston in a shootout victory, including saves on all three attempts in the shootout. He was tested right away by the Penguins, turning away 18 shots in the first period alone, including a terrific stop on Jeff
Cartermidway through the period. Carter skated in his 1,300th career game, becoming the sixth active player to hit the milestone.
Grubauer continued to stay solid in the second period, including a key stop on Jansen Harkins, and Seattle was able to limit dangerous attempts in the third period. Pittsburgh had just five shots on Grubauer in the final 20 minutes.
Pittsburgh was shut out for the third time this season and first since Dec. 16 against Toronto.
“Our goaltending has been a big factor for us and both guys have done a great job and, obviously, tonight (Grubauer) with the shutout, he should be proud of his effort,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said.
Bjorkstrand scored for the second straight game following a 15-game stretch during which Seattle’s All-Star representative managed just one goal and six assists. He swatted a puck out of the air and past Jarry at 12:25 of the first for his 15th goal.
Wennberg added his ninth goal off a scramble in front of the Pittsburgh net during a Seattle power play at 15:02 of the third period.
“I feel like the third period we were determined to win this game, and that's all that matters,” Wennberg said.

Vince Dunn Tallies Goal vs. Bruins

It was Boston’s sixth straight game that went beyond regulation time. By earning one point, the Bruins (34-12-14) tied idle Vancouver for most points in the NHL at 82.
After dropping the final three games on a 1-0-3 road trip, Boston is 2-2-5 in its past nine overall.
“If you look at the points, it’s a good trip. But doesn’t feel like it,” said Pastrnak, who tied the score late in the third period. “You get five out of eight points and every game was overtime. It’s a tough way to end it. We could have got the win, but unfortunately we didn’t. We played a great
game, then in the third period we kind of let them push. You must expect good teams will make a push and refocus. It took us until almost too late in the third period to make the push back.”
Grubauer made 29 saves for the Kraken. He got the start after replacingJoey Daccordearly in the second period of Saturday’s 5-2 home loss to Minnesota.
Yamamoto was up first in the shootout and beat Ullmark with a forehand shot. Grubauer subsequently made saves onCharlie Coyle, Charlie McAvoyand Pastrnak.

Pastrnak put the Bruins on the board at 5:53 of the first period. Kevin Shattenkirkgained the puck deep in his own end and sent it ahead to Pastrnak, who was breaking down the middle of the ice ahead of Seattle defendersWill Borgenand Jamie Oleksiak. Pastrnak went 1-on-1 against
Grubauer and launched the puck over his glove, high into the net.
Pastrnak’s 37th goal of the season was his 700th career point. He is the 10th Bruins player to reach that milestone.
"You get a few and you want to score more and more,” Pastrnak said. “I’ll definitely have to do some research on how to score more.”

Seattle had 14 shots on goal in the third — two more than in the first two periods combined.
“The push at the start of the third period was really important,” Kraken coach Dave Hakstol said. “And you can see the determination in our guys right away from the drop of the puck, and that paid off for us.”
Bjorkstrand gave Seattle a 3-2 lead with 5:30 left in the third when he redirected a shot by Alex Wennbergpast Ullmark for his 14th goal. That came after the Bruins thought they had snapped the 2-all tie on an apparent goal byMorgan Geekiewith 9:14 to go. But the Kraken won a

“We’re playing a good style of hockey and we’ve been committed to it for the most part,” Minnesota coach John Hynes said. “I think the belief from the players of playing the game that gives us the best chance to win, recognizing what that is and then committing to it has been a big

The Wild have scored 22 goals in their past four games, starting with a franchise-record 10 goals against Vancouver on Monday. Kaprizov has six goals and six assists over that stretch, while extending his point streak to eight games.
Minnesota moved into a tie with St. Louis at 62 points and remained two points behind Nashville for the Western Conference’s second wild card spot. Seattle fell three points behind the Wild.
“We need every point we can get,” Johansson said. “And playing the teams that we’re fighting with, obviously these games mean a little bit more too. It’s kind of one of those four-point games, so it was a big one for us.”

“We should be pretty upset with ourselves,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “There’s moments in the game that are game-changing moments. Two nights ago, we met every one of those moments. Tonight we didn’t meet very many of them.”
Johansson tied it 1-1 at 4:59 of the opening period when his shot from the right circle deflected in off Daccord for his ninth goal of the season.
Kaprizov gave Minnesota a 2-1 lead during a 5-on-3 power play at 13:32 of the first. Kaprizov and Zuccarello slid the puck back and forth twice behind the net before Kaprizov wrapped the puck around the right post for his 25th.

Kaprizov scored again just a minute later, firing his 26th from the left circle off a rush during 4-on-4 play.

The Canucks fell into a tie with Boston — which lost to Calgary 3-2 in overtime on Thursday — atop the NHL standings at 80 points. Prior to its current four-game skid, Vancouver hadn’t lost more than two straight all season.

The Canucks went scoreless on all four power-play opportunities. They are 1 of 28 on power plays over their past nine games.
“Not much compete from the guys,” Vancouver coach Rick Tocchet said. “That’s on me. I’ve gotta take the blame for that. I didn’t get the guys to compete hard enough, so I’ll take the heat on this one. There were a lot of no shows tonight.”
Miller opened the scoring 4:34 into the first period, when he poked in a loose puck after Grubauer lost his stick behind the net. It was Miller’s 29th goal of the season and fifth in his past three games.
Dunn tied it at 13:22 of the first, one-timing a slap shot from the point.
McCann gave Seattle a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal 20 seconds into the second. He snagged the puck off a clearance attempt and fired his team-leading 25th into the upper-right corner.
Justin Schultz Lights the Lamp for Kraken
Vancouver tied it 2-2 at 4:57 when Pius Suter’s shot pinballed into the net off Schultz’s skate and Lafferty’s shoulder.
Seattle regained the lead when Schultz fired a slap shot from the right point at 13:28 of the second.
Eberle gave Seattle a 4-2 lead just 1:11 later, burying his own rebound after a nice pass from McCann behind the net. He added an empty-netter for his 12th of the season, including his eighth in the past 15 games.

The sputtering Bruins fell into a tie with Florida atop the Atlantic Division standings, with the Metropolitan Division-leading New York Rangersone point behind them for most in the Eastern Conference.
The Bruins took the lead five minutes into the game when Pastrnak fired a shot on Daccord and then drove home the rebound for his 34th goal of the season.
A high-sticking penalty on Boston resulted in Seattle getting the equalizer at 10:49 of the first period as Eberle’s persistence paid off after Swayman made the initial stop.
Boston hit two posts andJames van Riemsdykmissed an open net in the second. That frustration was magnified when the Kraken capitalized on a 3-on-1 break late in the period as Tolvanen fired in a one-timer. Beniers was credited with his second assist of the night.

“We're not getting the results right now, but sometimes you go through this during the season. We hit some posts. Those things happen,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. “We’re going to stick together and keep grinding and keep working.”
Bruins forwardCharlie Coylehad a good look to tie it but his backhand bid hit the post two minutes into the third. The deficit grew to two goals when Beniers — a Massachusetts native — beat Swayman on a rush from the left side.
“Boston kids love coming home to Boston,” Beniers said with a smile. “I know (Daccord) was pumped up. I was pumped up. It was fun to get the win.”
The Bruins needed to kill off a penalty before getting an extra skater for a 6-on-5 advantage with 1:30 remaining, but Seattle found the empty net as McCann made it four goals for the Kraken’s top line.
Boston went 0 for 2 on the power play and is 0 for 15 in a four-game drought.
